♦ “Physically I am here. Mentally, I am far, far away...” ♦

I don’t think its fair to tell you his secrets before telling you a bit about this guy. Arlo has always been… considered different to the rest. Always shunned for not looking the ‘right’ way. For being different. They wouldn’t let their kids near him when they were younger, then when he moved on through stages of life, it got worse. No one would talk to him, but they would laugh at him. Arlo would take it all, and would try to ignore it. But everything they say still lingers in his mind, no matter how hard he tries to ignore them. He’s learnt to live being alone now, and has become used to being called, ‘demi’, meaning half. Half-human, they would say. Half human, they would taunt. Arlo blocked it out. Because he knew it was not true. So unused to company, I’m not sure he’ll ever open up his mind to anyone again; afraid they’ll hurt him if he tells them all he knows. Arlo is very sensitive, although he pretends he isn’t.

But he is like everyone else, in other regards. He has his own things he enjoys, and doesn’t enjoy. He loves flowers, and has had a weird obsession ever since he was little. It was always the little white flowers he would pick in the gardens. Now, he owns his own garden, and goes there every day to tend to them and talk to them. Another thing he enjoys is video games, and becomes quite engrossed in them when he starts playing. Not just video games, but mind games too. Especially chess. He won the chess championships a while back, and has the trophy to prove it.

The warmth is one of his good friends. Summer time, where he can enjoy being under the sun, running through the meadows, and laughing happily to himself. Summer time, when he lets go of his memories and cherishes the present time. He is very sensitive to the wintry weather, and when winter comes around, he will do nothing but wrap himself around in many blankets and curl up on his bed with his laptop and some hot chocolate. Arlo is one to love the weather if it is good, and resent it if it is bad. This brings him to his love of milkshakes, as he loves to drink them in the summer. He either makes his own, or covers his face and buys some from the nearest stores. Milkshakes are something he could have all day and never be tired of.

Okay, enough of the rambling. Now, onto his secret, that he has told no soul. No soul at all. It is that, he has a pet cat from the Underworld. The Underworld, the place in which he was born, then brought to Earth, the human realm. They called him ‘demi’ because they thought he was half human, but indeed, he is not a human at all. Very similar, rather. This leads me to tell you a bit of his story, if you wouldn’t mind. Arlo only found out a few years back, where his home is. In the Underworld, there was a portal. A portal that no one dared to near. He, as an innocent baby, went up to the portal when no one was looking, and was thrown in as soon as he entered its magnetic field. He cried as he felt he was falling, and this falling sensation was the only thing he knew before finding out his history. So, he fell, and landed in the human world, where he was put in an orphanage. He sneaked off and somehow gathered enough money to put him in one of the worst schools in the area. It was better than nothing. He learnt to live on his own for a long time. He found out where he was from his cat. His ‘cat’, was not a cat at all, actually. It was something unknown to Earth, with no gender, but a calling of It (a calling is a name in the Underworld). It had fallen through the portal too. It was pulled to Arlo instantly, as he was the only one of It's world. As it neared, It told Arlo of everything. Arlo was indeed shocked.
And lived in the human realm ever since. It lived with him, and the two formed a very close bond. Arlo never told anyone, because they would shun him more, if he showed them a ‘talking, horned, six-legged cat’. It hated being called a cat, because that was not what It was. They lived together, and It was the only source of company and comfort Arlo had. Perhaps I could tell you a little bit about It, and It’s story and personality, but I think that would be a story for another time. In short, I can say that It is very… unpredictable. In the least.

All in all, Arlo is a very unique being, one that will never belong in the human realm, even if that is where he lives.

(I'm so glad I found this guy! I absolutely love him, and you're such a talented designer! I hope I didn't bore you with my writing, and I'm so sorry about the quality of my art. I usually draw with photoshop, but the device I use to draw had a broken touchscreen, so I had to switch to my ipad. Its been ages since I've used my finger to draw than a stylus. Thank you so much for the chance though, this guy is beautiful!)

xxxxxRain had never poured down so hard on their small town. Each raindrop nearly shook their houses with each tap. Water seeped in through the doors and leaked from their weakening ceilings. No one dared venture outside, for from their windows they could see that the paths to their town were flooded like they've never seen. Going out meant getting swept away for sure. So, all anyone could do was hold their loved ones close, and pray that the storm would pass. However, that would not be the case. The rain only seemed to pick up, and the very foundation their houses stood on were being ripped apart. Water surged in through the weakened parts of the houses until they were inevitably torn from the ground. Two siblings hugged each other close and shut their eyes as a chilling wash of rain water flooded over them. The taller of the two looked up to see his father smile and whisper a goodbye. He had been fearful since the clouds started rolling in, and distant even before all this. Before the boy could respond, their father's grip around them grew loose in the torrent of water before ultimately ebbing away.

xxxxxThe little village was no more.

xxxxxKenta awoke with a frightened jolt as he began to violently cough up water. His memory felt foggy, and his vision was blurry. As he slowly sat up, water ran down his lips from his stinging nose. He reached his arm up to wipe his eyes, but his clothes were soaking wet. As he lowered his arm, he saw a heap in the distance, just barely moving up and down with blue hair plastered to its neck. His eyes widened. "K-Karu...!" He just barely choked out as he scampered on his hands and knees towards the unconscious form of his half brother. With a huff, Kenta rolled him over. His face was scratched and pale, but he was breathing. Kenta slowly sat him up and patted his back slightly, sighing heavily in relief as Karu began to cough. As he watched him, it didn't take Kenta very long to remember what had happened. He looked to the sky and squinted. Giant drops of rain had ravaged his home, and as he looked around, he realized he had no idea where they were. "Ken...ta...?" Karu murmured, his big blue eyes opening just a bit. "Wh...Where's da...dad..." he exhaled hoarsely, barely able to finish his sentence. Kenta felt his throat knot up and his stomach drop. He squinted hard as he felt a hot rush of tears welling in his eyes. "...We'll find him... We'll find everyone," he slowly, and painfully smiled, "I promise."

xxxxxIt had been a long time since the flood, most likely months. The two of them had seen the likes of which they never even knew was possible. The houses, the animals, the... people? They were all gigantic. Needless to say, the two were beyond terrified. However, Kenta had started learning a thing or two in these few months. Like how giant's homes can be so helpful, even if it's difficult to get into one. The two of them had found clothes in one -along with some strange fake people- and the things they leave lying around make for excellent tools. But, his father's words still weigh heavy in his mind. Just thinking of him sent chills down his spine... And it set in a thought that he had never really wanted to admit: they might never find their father, or anyone from their village. The world was too big, and they were way too small.

xxxxxKenta sighed quietly as he began to fashion a makeshift crossbow out of little pieces of wood that had been lying around and some elastic. Various little tools hung off of his belts, which one by one were being plucked off to fix some of the parts into place. He glanced up occasionally to see Karu looking out of the window. They had originally come in here because it was raining, but the rain had long since stopped. "Kenta?" Karu looked away from the window, a bit of a hopeful glint in his eye. "Shouldn't we get going? We'll never find anyone at this rate." He playfully frowned. Kenta felt his heart sink. He had no idea how Karu was still so hopeful, it was like they had survived two different disasters. He didn't want to admit it to himself, let alone his brother. He knew their chances were incredibly slim in finding anyone from their village. He knew that his father, where ever he was, had given up by the time it had even started raining that day.

xxxxxBut... that would be something he would never want Karu to know.

Winner is lysander!
I have an ironic relationship with Gundam so I found the entry very funny!
Honorable mentions to Skip and asada.!
I feel fairly guilty that you two don't get anything for your efforts so I might make an honorable mentions shop sometime.
Thanks to all who tried out! It was super fun to read :D
