Story: The soft snow beneath by boots crunched and formed under the pattern of the sole on both of my feet. It was cold and snowing outside, the blizzard subsided and I needed to get more wood for the fireplace to keep the house and the stables warm. This has been the worst blizzard in a while, only because the climate has changed severely and everything has been changing dramatically. The winds knocked me down onto my knees and the snow started to hit my cheeks hard, almost feeling like they were forming into small ice balls. It was time to seek some shelter and make a camp if possible. I made a lengthy journey to a good sized cave and sat down at the entrance. It was not dark quite yet, there was about an hour of daylight left to enjoy. It was too late to go back now. The winds and the snow became worse, and I decided to go deeper into the cave. Which was not too good of an idea considering I did not have any weapons at the time. I started to stack some wood and lit a match, putting it to the slightly damp wood and watched the flame rise slowly. I heard a huff or some sort of breathing from the back of the cave and I shined my flashlight down the cave, not seeing anything out of the ordinary. I clicked my flashlight off and began to unpack a sleeping bag and some canned food to start heating up on the fire. About 20 minutes go by and I hear rustling and rocks moving around and more breathing. I hold my breath and shine my flashlight down the cave again, not seeing anything until---Something moved. Something moved and this something was not small---But HUGE! I held the flashlight still and continued to hold my breath, out of fear though. I was raised on books and stories about crossing a Beranhunds territory. "This is not good---not good one bit" I thought to myself and watched this massive canine emerge from the shadows and into the light, standing fully up and I know it sees me. I look up at it and slowly raise my flashlight to the canines muzzle, and it is staring right at me. It growls lowly, starting to walk towards me and I drop my flashlight and run. I run straight to the entrance of the cave and I felt the powerful Beranhund get ahold of the pant leg of my left limb, and try to pull but to my luck, these were cheap pants that I could wear above my snow suit and that's all his massive tooth got a bite on. I run faster, dodging trees and jumping over mounds of whatever could be under the snow. Until I started to skid across what I knew was the main killer of hikers and wilderness explorers in my town. Ice. And this did not seem like very stable ice because as I started to slid further out I heard the ice beneath me gurgling and crackling. I did not bring the right type of gear only because I knew the path I was on before. I did not know this territory and more Beranhunds could be out there.. Even Tokotas, an even bigger species of canine that could easily destroy me. I did not think this much danger could be caused by one trip... How could this be. I have my other canines at home.. The other animals I have everything at home and no relatives. I huffed and heard trees moving and logs breaking and snow being rushed through. Oh no... Here comes my fate.. I saw this huge Hund jump off of the little mound I had ran right above and then fell onto the ice. I rushed to the edge of the river but I was too far out already. CRACK! SPLASH! BANG! I knew I was underwater, I felt pressure around me and very cold temperatures. My body already started to feel numb and my body was starting to become dysfunctional. I looked up and saw that the surface was not too far, If I got my body moving before the river started to push me under ice I will not be able to get out from without tools. I swam my hardest, limbs aching and face colder than Antarctica itself. But I managed to reach the surface and grabbed onto a hard piece of ice, I felt shards cut into my hand and I groaned in agony, pulling myself up and catching my breath and shivering fiercely. I looked around for that Hund, it probably escaped knowing I was probably dead somewhere under the ice. I began to move slowly back to land, when I heard a piercing yelp and frantic movement. I whipped my head around and saw the Hund, wide eyed, panting, soaked, and freaking the hell out. I felt bad but what if it were to remember who I was. What I did to upset it, and now THIS? But I thought about my Hunds. What I would of done for them if I missed a check point and got us stranded on a river. Them freezing and panicking like this poor thing. I whistled slowly to get it's attention---Or try to. No use. It did not even move it's ears to hear the sound better or locate where it was coming from. I then sighed, knowing what I had to do. Time was running out and if I wanted to save this thing---Eaten or not---I had to move as quickly as possible and act now. I slowly started to slide on my knees towards the big canine. IAs I got closer it seemed to become even for frantic and started to break even more ice around it, it's legs being cut up from the strong ice. Where we were before, the ice was thin. But you see, it went under and was strong enough to break through that ice. Meanwhile I would have easily died. I only had one thing that could save this Hund. I had rope tied around my waist. Emergencies only. This seems like a bit of an emergency. "Hey, heyyy there" I whistle and coo gently "Hey girl--Or, or boy" I say nervously and try to get closer, but it's huge leg crashes into the ice right next to me and I am back into the subzero temperature waters. Now I have to touch this thing that wanted to kill me. I crawled up onto the Hunds neck, tugging on its fur and crawling up to its head, I covered it's eyes "It's okay, gentle swims okay? Be careful or you are going to die! Do you hear me ? Cooperate and I will save you!" I said frantically but gently so I did not make it even more freaked out. I put my only jacket around it's eyes and the canine began to swim at a decently gentle pace, not crushing anymore ice and making a huge hole to make it harder to get out of. I had no halter. Damn. I would if I brought my bag and my own Hund. I tied the rope around its muzzle and then around it's neck. This rope was very thick and long, for climbing. I slowly start to climb down and put one foot onto the ice to make sure it does not crack. It wont crack under my feet but it will for this poor Beranhund. I start to pull the rope "You need to run after you get up on here okay???" I shout since I am a little further away from it and start to run, pulling as hard as I can with the rope around my waist and also gripped tightly in my hands. I see one foot, two feet, three feet, and this massive canine starts to run, my jacket falling off of it's face and it's giant paws drilling holes into the ice as it starts to run, It catches up to me of course and I feel it fling me up onto its soaking wet back. I cling onto its fur as it keeps running, and soon we get onto unbreakable ice. But the Hund sees a cliff and jumps, causing the so called unbreakable ice in my mind to crash and break beneath its mighty paws and land onto this cliff. But it fails to jump fully onto it. I rush up into the deep snow and tie the rope around my waist to a thick tree and let the Hund pull itself up. It is shaking and panting and is not doing okay at all. Blood stains the crystal white snow and I run over, ripping up my thin cover up pants and applying pressure to the wounds. "We wont survive out here cold and wet, we need to find something to keep warm in until daylight" I said to it. Hoping it would consider the advice. The poor thing was tired out and petrified. Still in shock and not cooperating like these intelligent animals should. I start to pull the rope "Lets go... Please c'mon lets go we can find a warm place" I ushered to the canine. Nothing. "Please you will die out here, we are on the wrong side of the river we need to find shelter" I began pulling more and pulling harder. This magnificent creature was going to die right in front of me and I can do nothing to fix this. I grabbed it's big icicle covered muzzle and looked into it's hopeless eyes and pet in between it's eyes firmly "I can take care of you" I said while I shoked up and pulled the halter on its muzzle "I will make you better I can make you healthy again" Tears were flowing and I began to pull even harder, the canine weakly getting up. I pulled more and more "Lets go! Now" Get up you can do it" I screamed, the canine getting up and stumbling to the side. Its legs were so weak. I began to pull it. Making my way through the wilderness and the freezing cold. I can't even make it long. How do I expect this canine to. I started to speed walk through the snow, my toes were severely numb and my face was wind burnt. I saw a small glow in the distance. Fire? A light? A house? I thought to myself, now beginning to run, I started to call out "HELP! HELP ME I NEED HELP!" My voice boomed and echoed throughout the empty wilderness and I saw more lights, I saw shadows in front of the lights and motors beginning to start. "YES HERE OVER HERE PLEASE HELP US!" I was still crying like a huge baby. I heard motors. I laughed and wiped the snot away from my nose as I ran even faster. I saw the headlight of a snowmobile and a woman and a man become more clear. "Please help we fell through ice and this Hund needs help" I said frantically. To my luck they had a Beranhund carrier attached to the back. A Beranhund carrier is like a platform you attack to a truck, except it is big for the Beranhund and has the same type of equipment to get through snow. The Hund was placed on it and I rode along with it. I was holding its big fuzzing head in my lap and it opened its eyes, staring at me and I smiled at it. The Hund licked my hand and forearm briefly and closed its eyes again. We got back to the nice couples land and they backed the snowmobile up to a huge barn. "You guys will keep warm in here. There is straw and heaters in there you can plug up. The generator has them all going" The woman said. The man was taking the Hund into the barn and I shook the ladies hand "Thank you. Thank you so much for this I will tell you everything int eh morning" She nodded and handed me a big quilt and I went back in with the Beranhund. I stroked its soft fur and put the heaters around us. I was exhausted, and so was the Hund. Although I lost all of my good equipment and my favorite jacket; I made a new friend that day. I saved a new friend that day. And this will always be my most dangerous as well as my most cherished moment in life.
In the morning I found out this beautiful creature was a male, and I decided to name him Sibren. Sibren means Victorious Bear. And in my mind that is exactly was this creature was. He was victorious, and went through the toughest time possible, and still made it through although it was a great obstacle.

THE END~ I loved writing this! I hope any who read enjoys!

Story:

I trudged slowly across the yard to the tall pen in which the Beranhund was kept. From afar I could hear its frenzy yelps and the loud crashes of body against metal. I grimaced. I had been warned that this Beranhund was going to be quite a handful since they brought her in yesterday.

I saw her---a blur of chocolate brown and a flash of white. She dashed in frantic circles around the pen, barking loudly. My heart thumped apprehensively in my chest. I walked forward gingerly.
She caught sight of me, her orange eyes blazing defiantly. She growled and her fur bristled. She bared her glistening fangs threateningly at me. I had experience working with aggressive dogs, but this one stood out. She had...a wild spirit. It was displayed in her eyes.

I grabbed a piece of dried beef from my backpack and held it in my hand. I approached the pen slowly, the hund's eyes trailing me suspiciously. I stuck my hand near the bars and held the beef there. The hund watched it.

I breathed slowly, not speaking. Her amber eyes watched mine as she stretched her long snout cautiously towards the tantalizing beef. I watched as she reached out, and took the beef in her jaws. Then, with a flash of motion, she jerked away and tore off to the other end of the pen.

I sighed, shocked by the sudden movement. So much for thinking I had accomplished my mission. "Alexis..." I called her name gently. She ignored me, chewing her beef.

"Alexis..." I tried again. Her ears twitched slightly, and I felt a surge of hope. "Alexis, good girl, Alexis..." I whispered soothingly. Her ears swivelled in my direction and she turned her head slightly. And growled.

I inched towards the low door in the pen and slipped through it, making sure I was quiet. But she heard me anyway; she heard my shoes crunching on the sawdust. She turned sharply and glared at me, orange irises glowing angrily. She growled warningly.

I inched slowly towards Alexis, making sure my motions were not alarming. When I was within touching distance of the Beranhund, I reached my hand out for her to sniff.

Alexis watched my hand warily. Seeing my hand not moving, she sniffed it carefully. Her wet nose grazed my palm lightly. Glancing at me, she sat down like an obedient dog and began licking her paw.

I stroked her gently on her head and watched her slow movements. I tickled the spot behind her ears and they twitched. Then I stretched my hand to stroke her muzzle.

Without warning, she sprung upward, fangs bared. Shocked at the sudden aggression, I jerked backward. Her sharp teeth sank into my lower arm. Strangely, she instantly sprang back as fast as she had sprung upward.

I gasped, but my arm did not hurt. I wrapped my injured arm inside my shirt and looked at Alexis. She was watching me. Her eyes were not full of anger, like I thought, but full of remorse.

"Come here, Alexis..." I murmured, reaching out my good hand. "Don't worry girl, I forgive you..."

She slunk gratefully under my outstretched hand, and did not resist as I patted her sleek muzzle. I smiled.

I had tamed my first Beranhund!
