have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sentient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.

Their shining tails are used for identification and showing off,
which is helpful when spotting another Kalon from afar. This
association with other Kalons is why they are head-over-heels
for any shiny or colorful item that they come across!

Alright, maybe a dramatic pose isn't the best way to go about this. If you insist, here's just the plain, old

Akomachi Zenko
Zenko could hardly be considered a last name at all. It is only what classifies this kalon, a Zenko Kitsune. The zenko are benevolent and celestial foxes, those who work for gods. At first glance, you would never guess she could be a Zenko at all, showy and cunning, not to mention being a kalon, not a kitsune at all. However, Akomachi is incapable of becoming the counterpart of a Zenko, as she walks the thin line between them, remaining with the title of her origin.

"Akomachi Zenko, at your service"
A self-proclaimed kitsune, Akomachi lived among other orphaned kalons, all mentored by a real kitsune. However, straying from her teachings, Akomachi left this place. She would keep teaching herself, she was hungry for power; Which led this kalon to her devious ways. She wandered mountainsides, searching for a purpose, something to prevent all her knowledge going to waste. Akomachi eventually came upon a kalon -- Was it a kalon? It could be anything. Legs covered in wraps, tail hidden, wearing a mask to cover it's identity. With pitch black fur, this creature was almost ominous. Yet it intrigued Akomachi, and she dared to step closer.
It saw her, and she saw it. Sharp yellow eyes held her gaze for a moment before darting away.
This is how Akomachi's story really started. A malicious black creature, who soon replaced the kitsune at her original home. I wouldn't dare say they ever thought of each other as friends, they were simply mentor and apprentice. It taught Akomachi it's secrets, and in return, Akomachi acted as a messenger.
The creature never showed it's face, never once took off the mask or bandages. Until the final day.


Akomachi never knew much about her mentor. She accepted it as a mysterious creature with many secrets, even with all those it taught her. Then, one day she broke, just like the mask that shattered into a thousand glittering pieces. She had to know who her mentor really was; what it really was. Fury brewed in her mind those days, not towards the creature but rather frustration of not knowing them.
It gave her another envelope that evening, adorned with it's customary heart stamp. Her mentor rarely talked to her, which infuriated Akomachi even more. The kalon had bottled up her worries, frustrations, anger, any negative emotion for as long as she could remember; the creature she worked with was intimidating in it's own way. It did not look at her directly often, but the times it did chilled her to the bone.
Akomachi took the envelope respectfully, turned her back to walk away, then paused. In a sharp movement, she whipped around and threw the envelope directly at her mentor, hitting them square in the middle of it's mask. It was taken aback at first, for only a moment. Then, it raised it's chin to look Akomachi in her eyes, it's piercing green ones looking almost calm - but with a hint of anger, or is it disappointment underneath that gaze?
At a closer inspection, one would notice a crack in the perfect porcelain mask. However, all detail was lost in Akomachi's rage and fear. She stepped closer, limbs shaking, and grabbed the creature's mask firmly. Under her tight grip, the mask indeed shattered. Rather, it simply crumbled. Sad little pieces fell to the ground, splitting in two on the cold stone beneath the pair's feet. Akomachi raised her eyes to look at the creature she had been living with for months. Indeed, it was a kalon, but a kalon unlike she had ever seen before. Golden-toned iridescent shine lined it's face, startling Akomachi at first.
It only lasted a split second; as soon as her mentor processed what happened, it turned tail and ran, leaving it's apprentice to wonder.
From that day, it didn't return, almost as if it had vanished into thin air. Akomachi was since given plentiful time to explore their quarters. Within them, she discovered another mask almost identical to the one her former mentor had worn. However, this one had almost half the broken off, and long strips of fragile paper attached to the back. On the paper were two messages;
One was in a language she couldn't even begin to understand, though the writing looked messy and near-unreadable anyway.
On the other side was an equally messy note, scrawled in tiny letters that read "i love you".
Akomachi never achieved her goal that day. All she was left with was a mask, a missing kalon, and a sweet message.
She can only imagine.
