- Adopted from the Rescue Event
Backstory wrote:This rather small female was used as breeding stock in a puppy mill before she was rescued. She was in bad condition and it was obvious that she could barely stand, putting any weight on her hind legs resulted in her stumbling back down. The veterinarian who examined her took x-rays and diagnosed her with moderate hip dysplasia, coupled with a life of mostly lying down her muscle mass, especially in her hips, had deteriorated and gave her painful arthritis. Without any socialization beforehand, treatment was a difficult and long process and will be ongoing throughout the rest of her life. Dietary supplements and steroids need to be given daily to try to restore cartilage in her joints, and she's on a few medications to help with her pain. With hope they will help with her mobility, and supervised swimming at her new home will help build up muscle mass with less stress than other activities. Beyond her disabilities, she's very hesitant about opening up to the world and faces challenges in seemingly everyday things since most things are still very new. But she is curious about the happenings around her and likes to explore and people watch. It seems as though ever since she was treated enough to walk and trot again, albeit stiffly, it's made her love to be out and about and on her feet! As long as she's loved and handled with care she'll be a great companion.
