Story wise, I think I will make it where Loa had ulterior motives behind this. This was a way to prove to Danika that he was real and that their love was real. "Lookit da babeh...Don' tell me i'dain' real.."

However...he also made a deal he shouldn't have with some spirits he had no business dealing with. All to try and help Danika. I think this will be the physical manifestation of Danikas curse...
