Gaining trust
From that day on, it's as if my mind works on its own but I will find myself going back to where the dragon was. Everyday I would just go in, sit on a nearby rock and just observe it. I kept reading non-stop about Moldruffles and I found myself falling in love with the species as the days pass.
"Hey boy." I would greet it everyday.
Some days, he would be outside his cave, basking in the light. Some days only his red eyes can be seen from his cave. Either ways, I would always be greeted by a warning growl. It has been two weeks of just sitting on the rock for hours. Just spending my time there, observing it, drawing it or just admiring the scenery. Today, I decided to take it one step further. Since they're so cat-like, it is also a known that they would enjoy fish. I brought a fish from a catch earlier that morning.
The black beauty was in his cave when I came. Once again, hisses and growls of fear, hostility and uneasiness filled the small valley. I sat at my usual spot, red eyes trained cautiously at me. I slowly took a fish out of the bag and as if on call, he slowly peeped out of his cave. I gently tossed the fish in his direction. He sniffed it a few times before eating it. It then looked at me. Eyes filled with hope but still wary.
"That's all I got today, boy. I'll get you one everyday if you like." I said.
He snorted and headed back to his cave.
I knew he couldn't use fire-power so it would explain why he was so fearful.
This continued for a very long time. Probably about two or three months. Because he was so fearful, sometimes he would try and attack. I would sometimes get out unscathed or with some bruises and scratches. It was truly a very long and hard process but the determination to help him open up drove me on. The worst injury I was received was when he swung his bommy-knocker tail at me. I didn't really jump out of the way on time and my calves had a few puncture holes. Thankfully, I quickly staggered away. After that, he retreated back to his cave, showing that it was just a warning.
Day after day, rain or shine, I would continue to visit him.
"Hey Drakon." I said as went and sat on the rock once more.
He grunted a greeting. After a while, he slowly stopped the growling and hissing after he realised I was not a threat. I gave him the name Drakon after a while and he seemed to like it as he responds to it.
"You're lucky today, Drakon." I said.
His eyes trained on me as if to urge me to talk.
I took out a large fish and he slowly emerged.
"However, I would like to try something..." I trailed off.
I held out the fish in my hand and it's as if he knew. He gave a hiss. I sighed but I kept my stance, ready to jump out of range incase he decides to attack out of fear.
He slowly approached me, and I cautiously raised my free hand. He hissed once more and backed off. Patience was key in this and I had to be confident also. Eventually, he slowly sniffed and bit into the fish. I gently touched his nose. His red eyes widened but slowly relaxed and a low rumbling could be heard, as if he was purring. He took the fish out of my hands as I continued to stroke his nose.
"Good boy, Drakon." I whispered.
He heard and slowly approached me, gently lowering himself for me to pet his head.
