The silence had cursed her. She did not want to
speak either. It would only disturb the peace of
the wilds in her walk. The spanning of open
land on either side of the canyon whistled
from the wind. There was no need to interrupt
the wind as it sung. Yet, the wind wasn't the
only one making its presence clear. Splashes
barely audible rose from one side of the sheer
rock walls that plummeted to the ground.
Other Quiffles. But, I thought I was the only
one. Gisepia wondered.
Following the trail of noise along the plateau's
crumbling edge, the female picked up the
presence of two others. Two others whom were
making lots of excessive racket.
After a fairly lengthy walk following the noise,
Gisepia found herself at the edge of a waterfall.
The cool water comforted her tired paws, and
thundered down the plateau's side.
Moving off and away to get a better look as to
the sources disturbing her calm, she caught the
name of one as it was called. Asa. Making
her way to a spot she could she, the sight of two
Quiffles enjoying themselves far below forced a
nostalgic whimper.
"Wait," Gisepia stopper herself. There was
something off about one of the Quiffles.
The black and greenish one.
A spark of interest burst into her, and
next she found herself running as quickly
as possible down the tumbled rocks at
the edge of the place she called home.
Out of breath and at the bottom, the sight
of the other two let the energy flow back
again. Ignoring the ache of exhaustion, she
ran closer, and closer...
"Wait!" Gisepia howled as her legs collapsed.
Both turned to her with jumps of shock.
There. The green and black one. She was
glowing.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxExtras:
xxxxxxxIt wasn't her fault Gisepia was born with the stars in her fur that glowed like the night
sky. Or the dull eyes that spooked her siblings. She was one of the few to glow like the stars in
the sky.
"What might this mean?" her father whispered over the sounds of her litter mates suckling.
"I don't know. But I fear for the rest." her mother responded. The smooth rumbles of her belly
as she spoke caught the young Quiffle's attention.
"Mu-ma!" she squeaked over the curves of her stomach. Both eyes turned to her, shocked at
this little curious voice.
"Yes?"
With a few grunts of protest, GIsepia had crawled over the other and onto her mother. "I
wanna be rainbow!" she yipped, rolling onto her back with a giggle.
"Alright." her mother responded carelessly, sending her toppling over with a prod of her
muzzle. The pup sprung at her mother's face, holding on carefully as she battered her
eyes. The glow illuminated both faces.
"We'll see then." her father concluded with a grin as her mother attempted to pry off
Gisepia. With a sigh, she moved the female back to the safety of her stomach.
In the later years, as Gisepia grew, her glow took effect. Siblings could not sleep
against the glare. Gisepia herself struggled to hunt most anytime of the day. But
worst of all, her family grew irritable. The newest litter received almost all attention,
but Gisepia received less than all. It was assumed she was seemingly blessed, and did not
need the same affection. No, she didn't, but the neglect did not keep her around.
"Mother?" she whispered as she approached the fae. Her mother averted her eyes, staring
warmly as the litter played around with her thick tail.
"Mother?" Gisepia tried again.
"Hmm?" she mumbled, not looking very interested.
Gisepia paused, giving her mother a hard stare, waiting for her to notice. But as she stood
resolutely, she understood that it was useless. "I'm going." she sighed. No one would miss her.
Faster than it would take for the rest to realize what was going on, Gisepia had moved to the
edge of the territory, and into the emptier lands beyond. Steep plateau lined one side. She
would move there, so she could see the stars at night, and curse them for ruining her.
