Story:
Romeo cantered around the warm up ring. His smooth gait kept people watching. His ears flicked forward as he faintly heard an announcment call him to the starting line. His owner slowed the stallion to a walk, steering him towards the competition.
Romeo's nostrils flared and his hooves skittered on the soft ground. He started bobbing his head and testing his rider's strength on the bit as he neared the line. He was pulled to a stop. Waiting to be given the signal to go. *Ding!* Romeo's rider kicked the stallion on towards the first jump. He gathered himself up and whoosh! He had cleared It. He cantered quickly to an oxer and leapt over that too. Even giving a little flick of his hind-hooves before landing. His chest began to heave as he cleared jump 3,4 and 5. When he went around the ring again to face the final jump. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a lovely palomino mare. Her mane was flowing in the wind and her eyes were as blue as sapphires. She let out a whinny that was like a harp. She was drop-dead Gorgeous to him. Unfortunately Romeo's rider could not pull him out of his love-struck phase before the jump. The stallion stumbled and tripped as he went for the final jump. He leapt up and the crowd gasped as his hind hooves knocked down three rails. It was almost a clear round and they could have won. But Romeo didn't care, he was too much in a trance to know he lost.
Later that night, Romeo was in his stall happily eating hay while thinking of that mare. Her creamy socks and allegiant look took his thoughts to another land. He heard a truck pull up outside the barn. The stall's top door was open so the stallion could see the truck was pulling a horse trailer. Romeo snorted and shook his head, about to go back to eating when he heard a whinny that sounded like a harp. He froze and peered back out the door. A man and woman were lowering the trailer ramp with the help of his owner. He stared harder, so hard he caught a glimpse of a creamy tail. The man walked inside the trailer and lead the horse out. It was... The mare! The lovely palomino with Sapphire eyes Romeo had fallen in love with. He bobbed his head and let out a big neigh to capture her attention. She looked over to the stallion and flicked her eyelashes in a flirty way. The man lead the mare to the stall opposite to Romeo, un-clipping her lead rope. He patted her before walking back out the barn to talk with romeo's owner. Romeo smiled as he watched the mare fall asleep. What luck!? She is here, at my stables, in the stall opposite to me! he thought as he too drifted asleep.
It was morning when Romeo woke up. The mare was gone, so was the trailer. There was no sign of tire marks on the dusty driveway. It can't have been a dream!? He frantically thought, swinging his head violently around in desperation to find a glimpse of the mare. But no. It was a dream. Romeo was so upset he refused to eat any food that day. When he was put out in the pasture, he scanned the horizon. Almost certain he saw a mare, galloping away. To freedom. "I will find you!" He reared, letting out huge neigh and stallion screams.
So Romeo did what he promised but had no luck. he never gave up hope though, for he knew that someday that palomino mare will appear again as quickly as she disappeared.
