Journal Entry Two
A monstrous nightmare was found near the waterfall today. When they brought her back I knew she had to be mine. Her black scales rippled under the sunlight, and I could see the ferocity in her eyes. They said she would go to whomever could tame her first. I was one of the first to see her. Everybody else had come away empty handed, but I was determined for her to be mine. I tossed in some salmon, which seemed to perk her interest. Of course she was wary, but once she gave a good snort of smoke at me she grabbed the morsel. She dragged it back into the corner of her cage, gobbling it down. I smiled in satisfaction, tossing her another piece of fish. I repeated this for a while until she finally stopped acting so skittish. She had stopped scooting backwards now, and was much more interested in me. She looked curious, to be honest. Suspicious, but curious. I had brought a saddle with me. I knew she wasn't ready to be ridden yet, but I figured she could take a look at it. I pushed it into her stall, closing the door and stepping back. She looked back and forth from me to it a few times before coming forward to sniff it. She puffed a little flame at it, and seemed surprised when it didn't catch fire. She decided to try again, but the saddle remained intact. She wrinkled her nose at it, before deciding to light her entire self on fire and sit on it. Much to her surprise, the saddle was still unharmed (although maybe a little squashed). I couldn't help but laugh at her bewildered expression. She reared her head back, looking at me indignantly. I calmed down, still with a smile on my face as I apologized. I offered her my last fish, reaching out my other hand towards her. It took a minute, but after thoughtfully chewing her fish she seemed to decide I was alright, and I felt the press of her warm scales against my palm. We were friends.
