Journal Entry One
I found a Changewing today in the tall pine forest up on the ridge. I don't know what he was doing there all alone, or how he got separated from his pack, but it was clear by his rapidly changing scales that he was terrified and none to pleased to see me. Thankfully I had some fish with me as my lunch for my hike- I had been planning to eat when I reached the edge of the forest, but I think he needed it more. He was definitely wary at first, but after I set the fish down and backed up a few paces he was quick to devour it. I started walking again to see if he would follow me, and he did (albeit at a distance). When I reached up for a pinecone, so did he. Classic Changewing behavior, mimicking. Very carefully I turned around holding up the pinecone to show him. I moved towards the nearby cliff wall, and pretended to be trying to reach a branch that had fallen on a ledge a bit out of my reach. He seemed a bit confused, but curious. He watched me as he slithered forward, never taking his eyes off me as he reached up and grabbed the stick. He dropped it so it landed at my feet, tilting his head at me. I picked it up and smiled at him- I'll admit it was pretty funny to see him trying to copy my smile. I set the stick beside me and reached up to see if he would allow me to touch him. I stopped a few inches back with my hand outstretched, waiting for him to make the move to touch my hand. I didn't want to scare him, after all. He looked from my hand to me a few times before slowly stretching forward and pressing the tip of his nose against my hand. I stroked it and he seemed to relax, and even flopped down on the ground when I scratched his neck. I rubbed his belly for a while before my arms finally tired. He sat up when I stopped, his tail swishing from side to side as he looked at me with big, curious eyes. I showed him the stick he'd given me and waved it slightly before throwing it for him. He seemed excited by this game of fetch, as he's brought it back each time I've thrown it. He seems to be warming up to me... I think I'll call him Tűz.
