most viscets mate for life; not all do.
A lot of breedings that have been done (with two different people, each owning one of the parents) aren't usually mates but rather just being breed so they can have a baby with the shared genetics (because they like the color of the other parent, or a trait or two it has, etc)

Viscets are supposed to mate for life when they do, but that's harder to enforce and a bit limiting too. So it's more of a typically they do, but not that they absolutely have to.
