Come  meet  The  Pumpkin  King
- - - - -

    username: Arrows
    show name: The Pumpkin King
    barn name: Jack
    gender: Stallion
halter color: Dark orange w/white bone on cheek piece
personality: Jack is a fiery and wild stallion. He has always been strong-willed. He has infinite confidence, although it often comes with his arrogance. It can seem like he knows no manners or politeness. Jack's a hot head, preferring to do things his way and easily angered. He's daring, overly so, always ready for an adventure, which doesn't always come with infinite wisdom. Jack needs a balance in his life, someone to keep him from constant trouble. Or else he might just rampage. Jack has a hard time making friends, though when he does he holds up his end of the deal - he is protective and caring to them. He does have a gentler side. Jack appreciates his friends, respects them. Perhaps he will always be a little stuck in his ways. Jack will always be ready for a challenge. And that's not always a bad thing.
    best friend: Vesper
story: "Come on, Vesper!" Jack hissed through the bushes as his friend awkwardly and timidly pushed through. Jack rolled his eyes slightly and lead on, shouldering bracken and overgrown plants away. He was dragging Vesper on yet another adventure; a common nighttime activity for the pair. Jack was always finding things to do. Tonight, they were heading out to the old graveyard. Vesper didn't know this.
"Where are we going?" The violet-eyed stallion complained.
Jack snapped a tree branch with his mouth and spat it out. "It's a surprise."
Vesper groaned - he knew what surprises meant. But he continued on. He and Jack had been friends for a long time - ever since the large stallion had defended him against a gang of horses that had been picking on him for so long, they had bonded. Jack gave Vesper more confidence and helped him put himself out there; in return, Vesper yanked Jack back down to earth when he needed it.
They took the back entrance into the cemetery, Jack in the lead as always. Vesper was ready to turn and run when he noticed where they were. "Jack, no. I said I'd never go here." He stopped abruptly.
Jack turned slightly, "What, because of the stories? It's not haunted, Vesper. You have to learn to not be so afraid all the time. You have to." He was being hard on his friend, but Vesper needed it. He would never try anything new, never work up any nerve, never learn to fight for himself if not for Jack. So Vesper took an uncertain step forward and allowed himself to take a risk.
Jack turned back around and took them into the cemetery. Down cobblestone roads they went, trotting by large gravestones and memorials, many with epitaphs engraved delicately into the rocks. Jack remained respectful to the dead, keeping them from romping over where men and women tested forevermore. Vesper was nervous, glancing around wildly. He came to a stop beside his friend, pressing close to keep calm. Jack looked around the foggy area, noticing it's eerieness in the moon's light.
"Jack, we should go now." Vesper tugged at his mane with his teeth.
The stallion kept on, "No. Let's we've almost made a full circle, then we'll go back the way we came."
Against his better judgement, Vesper followed his lead. That was when the noises started.
For a while, the only noise was their hoofbeats against the cobblestone path. Then, there was a crackling noise that resembled fire burning. Then came the intense whooshing noise, yet no wind. And suddenly, a cry rang out, followed by a different wail that would not stop.
This put them both on edge. Jack froze at first - he had not expected this. "Vesper, what is that?" He growled, glancing around.
"Like I would know, Jack." He replied with fear creeping into his voice. The noises continued. With that, Jack ran. He was galloping wildly and Vesper followed.
The two completed their circle, throwing about rocks as they skidded back into the forest and onto their path. They leapt over brush and tree roots, side by side. They payed no mind to safety and recklessly abandoned their wits. First Jack, then Vesper, burst from the forest and into a wide, open field where their fenced, perfect gone lie. All the other horses remained out in the pasture, grazing silently. One raised her head to greet them, trotting over. She did not understand their fright.
Jack snuck through the hole he had discovered a while back, followed by Vesper, and settled down for the night. Yet he was unable to sleep, clearly shaken and embarrassed. It was the first time he's shown real, pure terror. Vesper felt bad for him - he was vulnerable for the first time. And as Jack had cared for Vesper, he would return the favor. He stood beside him all night, pressing close to reassure him. He shared his patches of grass and kept himself vigilant. Jack fell asleep finally, and Vesper laid nearby and did the same.
By the time morning came, Jack was himself again. They didn't bring up the graveyard, which was fine. They never returned and never found out where the noises came from - which was also fine. Vesper finally saw a weakness in Jack, and was able to help him like he always did. And maybe Vesper even gained a little bit more self-confidence. Jack was still haunted by the night - but all in all, Vesper hadn't minded it. Just so long as he had Jack beside him.

hello, bonjour
please call me believe

herro der mes amis, i am believe. proud canadian, ottb loving, colt breaking, nfr dreaming. pictured on the left is my racetrack reject, landofmakebelieve, aka molly, moo, shmoo, whatever name comes to mind x] molly is a 10 year old canadian bred thoroughbred mare, and standing at about 16.2hh, we look a little wonky when we chase cans, but la dee da that's alright. molly and i tried several disciplines. i tried desperately to get her to catch on to dressage, but unfortunately, she still has the race bred mind and is all go. however, together we found a discipline which we could both enjoy; western gaming. this summer we started travelling to barrel races locally. our current record on a standard size pattern is 17.314 and we are improving with every run. and to all the low budget barrel racers out there such as myself, a word of advise; chin up darling. you may not have a million dollar mount under your butt, but you and your crossbred, rejected, hard headed, rescue baby can do it. you know why? cause those girls sitting in their custom circle y's, upon shiny, top of the line mounts are full of themselves. they think there's no way they can lose. they get cocky. stay humble, believe in yourself, in your horse, and most importantly ride your little heart out.

show name: It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
barn name: Charlie
gender: Stallion
halter color: Something Halloweeny
personality: Charlie is a believer; tell him anything and he will believe it. He's also a follower. Anyone who shows leadership, he'll follow them like a dog to its master.
best friend: Canaan
story: As Canaan and Charlie moved through the pumpkin patch, it was eerily silent. The only sound that could be heard was the chirping of the crickets out in the tall grass. It soon became clear that there was no one for miles which was expected. Canaan had had the brilliant idea to get pumpkins after sunset, and Charlie just followed along. The path led deeper into the patch, and it started to become clear that they were lost.
"Where are we?" Charlie whispered.
"No idea. Doesn't really matter, does it? We just need to grab our pumpkins and go," Canaan replied.
With a sigh, Charlie gave in. They soon picked out their pumpkins and started heading back the way they assumed the stable was. They stumbled through the dark when footsteps could be heard coming closer.
"Quick, hide. They're coming to find us," Canaan mumbled, ducking in to the shadows. Charlie followed his lead, and they sat their silently, waiting for the footsteps to come even closer.
"When they come over here, we jump out, saying 'boo', got it?"
Charlie nodded, putting on his best scaring face and trying not to burst out laughing at what they planned to do. They waited patiently for their big moment to come.
"Hello? Charlie, Canaan?" Persephone called. "Are you guys there?" As the unsuspecting Persephone moved closer to their hiding place, the suspense was building more and more. It was clear she was scared, who wouldn't be in an empty pumpkin patch in the dark? She took a step forward, when Charlie and Canaan jumped out at her.
"Boo!" they cried in unison. As Persephone shrieked, they couldn't help but burst out laughing. "It's not funny!" she cried. "You guys nearly gave me a heart attack! Now let's head back, I don't think I could handle anymore surprises."
"Again next week?" Canaan asked Charlie when they were out of earshot.
"Of course!" Charlie chuckled.

show name: Pumpkin Patch Promises
barn name: Patch
gender: Stallion
halter color: pumpkin design c:

personality: Patch is a loveable boy. He's shy and awkward and quite jumpy, but he tries his best not to be. It's not like anyone dislikes him for this though; everyone finds him to be a sweetheart. Patch is quite smart... Well 'book smart'. He knows his facts, but when it comes to 'street smarts', he isn't the best, as he won't do much more than simply running away from what scares him; sticking around to fight is pretty much out of the question. He couldn't even hurt a fly. He is really a lover, not a fighter. Patch will only fight someone over one thing; his friends. Even though it sometimes makes him nervous, he isn't afraid to go after someone that's been mean to one of his friends.
best friend: Centuries
story: Being the two most halloween-looking horses in the area, the two of them were chosen to be in the county fair parade! There was only one problem with this situation; they didn't want to be walking around decked out in insane amounts of halloween themed decorations. Even though they both adored the holiday, when they got off of the trailer, they both instantly knew that there were much more interesting things to do. All it took was a glance around themselves, really. I bet you've already guessed what interested them, but if you didn't, it's was all the food. Both of them loved to eat and it's was just about the perfect opportunity to do so. As they were being lead to the barn that they'd be staying in until the parade began, Centuries turned and whispered to Patch, "You know... It can't be too hard to break out of here. We've gotta!" Patch, not wanting to become the kind of troublemaker that Centuries has always been, quickly declined and continued walking. "I'll do all of the work, I swear! I'll bust us out of our stalls. They can blame me, I don't really care." replied Centuries, who's spirit hadn't been brought down at all yet. "But.... I, uhh", Patch began to say, but he was cut off by Centuries sighing, "Come onnnn". Patch bowed his head slightly, avoiding eye contact with the other stallion. Thankfully that awkward moment was ended shortly as they were being put into their assigned stalls. "I am going to open mine and then I'll get yours", Centuries said confidently as soon as the people had left the barn, ignoring the fact that Patch didn't really want to. He stuck his head through the window in the front of his stall and began to wiggle the latch with his lips and teeth, moving the different parts around. In under a minute, the stallion had managed to open the latch with a satisfying 'click!' and was able to push the door open with his muzzle. He walked out, his confident air almost radiating off of him and shook out his mane. With this, he triumphantly stated, "One down, one to go, Patch". He got to work again right away, jiggling the main portion of the metal latch and pulling certain parts that stuck up from the main piece. Patch's lock was much harder to open, as it had been slightly rusty, and this made it hard to move. It took only an extra minute to open, but nonetheless, Centuries was able to do it. He stepped back, waiting for Patch to push open his stall door like he had, but the other stallion did not want to. In fact, Patch didn't even move. He just stood there, still munching on the small pile of hay that was left on the floor. "It's time for Houdini's main sidekick to make his great escape!", called Centuries. Patch still remained in the same place, not even bothering to bring his head up. "Oh come on, are you really eating that plain old hay when we could be eating all those delicious snacks?! Snacks unknown to horse-kind!?", he continued, trying to get a reaction out of his best friend. At this, Patch lifted his head slightly. "I do love a good snack... But you know, we probably shouldn't.", he said nervously. Centuries blurted out, "that's it, you're coming, I know you want to", and shoved open the door to Patch's stall. He walked around to the other side of Patch and pushed him, making him move over towards the door. "Let's. Go.", he said, pausing between words due to the effort needed to move Patch, who was being way too stubborn in his opinion. After a few minutes passed, the two of them were both standing outside of the barn, Centuries looking around with his ears pricked forwards, eager to go, and Patch standing slightly behind him, obviously nervous. Together, the two of them walked over to the first stand they could see; deep fried Oreos! Neither of them had a clue what 'Oreos' meant, but they didn't really care... The line was short and the people eating them looked awfully happy. Following what they watched the humans do, they got into line and waited. To their surprise, the man working at the stand blurted out, "Oh my goodness why are there two horses standing in my line?!", and called the barn's workers to grab them. "What, no?!", Centuries yelped in protest, but it was too late. The workers put them into their stalls again, this time using a rope to tie both of their stalls shut. As soon as the workers left, the two horses looked at each other, both sort of flustered. "

What did he mean by 'why are there two horses in my line'? Wasn't it obvious that we wanted Oreos?", mumbled Centuries.
