First Encounter

Postby koi97 » Tue Aug 11, 2015 4:28 pm

I sat atop of my red taffy stallion, Guardian. I tilt my base ball cap back as I narrow my eyes. I am dressed in boots, jeans, and a flannel shirt. Something light and easy. I didn't bother with fancy clothes. I don't own any anyways. I yawn, seeing a plum of dust sprining up. I live in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by dirt, grass, and wide open fields. behind me is a three story, old style white barn house and a long, brand new stable that has twenty stables. So far, only one is occupied. At least, until today once I get the new horse. About a week ago I got a call about untamed Tolters that needed a home and a trainer. I happily took one in. I hum a random song as I wait. Guardian nickers softly as me, his silver mane tossing around as he bobs his head. I watch as a silver trunk gets closer and closer. More and more details getting clearer as the truck gets closer. I wait a moment longer before moving Guardian. He happily moves off to the side. The truck slows down and stops beside me. I point towards the barn. "Take the truck over there. We can unload the Tolter there," I say.

The man in the truck nods. he starts driving again. I tap my heels against Guardian's side and we walk on. The truck passes us and I catch sight of a lovely bay roan horse. I smile slightly as Guardian neighs. Once by the stable, I slip off Guardian and my stable hand takes him to go clean him off. I watch the man unload the bay roan. The horse neighs and tugs slightly on the rope hooked up to his make shift halter. I head over, awed by the horses beauty. I move slowly, not wanting to spook the horse.

"A young bay roan stallion. His call name is Odahviing and his call name is Wings of the Snow Hunter," the man says. I nod. "And he now belongs to you. I hope you enjoy him and love him."

I reach out, wanting to touch his cheek. Odahviing stares at me with wide violet eyes. I coo softly and rest my hand against his cheek. Leaf shaped ears twitch as Odahviing watches me. He snorts, head moving slightly. I smile.

"Welcome to your new home Odahviing. I hope you enjoy it," I say.

My answer is a simple neigh from the stallion. I giggle and start to rub his cheek.

Adjusting to the New Home

Postby koi97 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 2:07 am

I watched Odahviing. He looks around his stable that we stand before. I am holding onto the rope hooked up to his make-shift halter. Within a few days I should have a new one for him, but I want to get him settled. He doesn't seem to mind it here, but he is very skittish. I keep him away from Guardian until he is settled in. I pat Odahviing's flank as I let him walk into the stable. He snorts and looks around, deep violet eyes studying his stable like he does every time I put him in it. I close the bottom half of the door, keeping the top open so he can peek out. I lean on the door, arms crossed over the top as I watch him.

Odahviing stomps a hoof down, circling once before stopping before the bin full of water. He takes a quick drink before turning to look at me. I smile at him and wave him on. I giggle a bit as he resumes looking around, noticing a few new things. Such as a brand new hay rack, a salt rock on a rope, and new buckets for feed, which are empty at the moment. I smile at the bay roan as he sniffs and nudges everything. He neighs softly and stomps a hoof down on the hay covered floor before trotting over to me. I hold out a hand and smile.

"How you liking your new home?" I coo to him. Odahviing snorts and goes to chew on my hair. I laugh and carefully brush him back. I smooth out my hair. "I will take that as a yes," I giggle.

The bay roan just snorts and bobs his head before turning back over and heading over to his hay rack. I smile and watch him feed. he seems so much calmer then he was days ago when he was first brought here. I struggled getting him to get in the stable. He has calmed down quiet a bit over the last few days. He is less skittish and stubborn. I smile, happy to have such a young and spirited stallion.

Introducing the Halter

Postby koi97 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 9:07 am

I lifted up the thick halter up. I studied it, wondering if Odahviing will like it. It's a snowy white halter with red wings over the cheek pieces. I hum softly and tilt it around before walking down the long hallway in the barn and towards Odahviing's stall. I hum softly, watching the silver buckles glitter in both the light from the sun and the lighting from above me. I stop, looking up to see Odahviing in his stallion, not looking all to happy. I've noticed he is a free spirited one. He hates being 'caged' away. He likes to run around. He turns those dark violet eyes towards me when I step up to the door of his stallion. he snorts and swishes his tail around for a moment before his ears perk up and he stares at the halter in my hands. I grin at him and hold the halter up.

"Like it?" I question. I giggle a bit to myself. I open up the door to his stall and step in, yet I block his path so he can't make a break for it. Odahviing presses his ears back slightly. He stares at me coldly, not liking me blocking his path. I wiggle the halter in front of his nose carefully. Odahviing snorts and pulls his head away. I stop wiggling the halter. I raise an eyebrow at the bay roan. I giggle a bit at him.

"You need this on," I muse. Odahviing snorts and glares at the halter. I sigh softly and look at the stubborn stallion. He stomps a hoof down on the floor and neighs softly at me. I hold the halter out and wait. Odahviing watches me. He bobs his head and neighs again. It takes him five minutes to realize that I am not putting the halter down. He snorts and gives up. I can see it in his eyes. He carefully steps forward and nudges the halter. I carefully slip it over his head and buckle it up. I smile and rub his cheek. Odahviing shakes his head, not looking all to happy to have the halter on. He rubs his head against my arm and I laugh.

"Don't worry, you will get used to," I promise. I rub his neck and smile. Odahviing snorts and just stares at me. I rub his cheek. That halter looks beautiful on him. It fits him also. I smile and kiss his nose before leaving Odahviing's stall. I close the door. Odahviing watches me blandly as I leave.

Meeting a friend

Postby koi97 » Tue Aug 18, 2015 9:36 am

I stand beside my newest horse, warrior. A young stallion one of my friends sold to me because he needed the money. I look up at a neigh and the sound of hooves charging forward. I groan, Odahviing must have slipped out of his stall. He is amazing at doing that, yet luckily he can only escape into the padlocks. I turn around to see the bay roan cantering towards us. Warrior rears back and neighs. I back up, now moving to block Odahviing's path. He slows to a stop. he snorts and looks at me proudly, as if happy he got away. I scowl and place my hands on my hips. "You need to stop escaping! What if you get hurt!" I sigh.

I shake my head and rub my temple. Odahviing whines at me and nudges me before he catches sight of Warrior. I look over at the blood bay as he stands there, watching Odahviing. I sigh softly and lead Odahviing over to Warrior. Odahviing moves on ahead and stands before the other stallion, watching him. I watch them both carefully. I look over at dainty footsteps to see my stable hand scamper up. "Would you like me to let out Guardian?" She asks. I nod. Might as well.

She darts off as I return to watching the two stallions. Odahviing nudges warrior and quickly darts off. He neighs and tosses his head as he trots around, once in a while, lunging at Warrior, who tries to nip at the playfully stallion. I start to giggle as I watch them play. Finally, Odahviing wins out and Warrior starts to chase after the bay roan. A nudge to my shoulder alerts me of Guardian. The red taffy stallion stands beside me. We both watch the two young stallions chase each other around. Guardian snorts and rests his head on my shoulder. I laugh softly at him. I rub his muzzle as Odahviing and Warrior chase each other around. After about five minutes, Warrior gets bored and trots over to us. He nudges Guardian, knowing the red taffy well. Odahviing is the curious one. He nudges Guardian often, yet the calm, middle age stallion just watches Odahviing in boredom. Odahviing neighs softly and looks around before moving to my other other. Warrior snorts, not looking happy at being booted out of his spot. I laugh and shake my head. "Easy there boys," I chide.

Guardian snorts and swishes his tail. I give them all a quick pat on the cheek. I then wave them off. "Go, go and enjoy your freedom while it lasts," I say with a smile grin. Odahviing is off in a flash, neighing loudly at the other two. I shoo them away to. Warrior is the first to go, resuming his game of chase with Odahviing. Guardian walks after the two, neighing at them. I giggle. It reminds me of two children playing to loudly and getting scolded for it, but they don't listen. Odahviing seems happy. Being able to have others around him. At first, I thought he was going to react badly, but right now, I see a kid excited to have a playmate. I giggle to myself as I watch the stallions. At least, these horses have each other now and won't be so lonely. I back up towards the fence as I watch them run around and chase each other.

Gaining Odahviing's Trust

Postby koi97 » Thu Aug 20, 2015 3:50 pm

I stand before Odahviing. I want to give him a treat, something I have not done already. I watch the bay roan as he trots around me. I stand in the middle of the small circular pen. I hold the treat in my hands. Odahviing eyes me warily. His violet eyes flicking around wildly, same with his ears and tail. He snorts and neighs at me before shaking his head and mane. I watch him closer, being carefully not to spook him. I chew on my lip, nervous about everything. I start to wonder who he will react to the saddle. If he is this wary about a treat, then I should be expecting many things when it comes to the saddle. I watch the young stallion as he slowly starts to calm down. He stops before me, bobbing his head up and down before backing up slightly as I move, lifting my hand up. I open my hand, palm facing up so the carrot it is full view to the skittish stallion. Odahviing neighs at me and shakes his head before snorting and pacing again. He carefully comes up to me, nudging the treat before trying to take a nip. My finger twitches, causing him to pull away with a bitter neigh. I twitch, but remain still.

Odahviing stands tensely at my side. I look at him. I slowly hold my other hand. "It's okay Odahviing. It is only a treat," I whisper.

The stallion only snorts, glaring at the orange veggie in my hand. I carefully brush a hand along his head. His violet eyes dart to my eyes. I give him a warm and reassuring smile. "It won't hurt you. I promise," I coo softly.

Slowly, I can feel and see him relax as I brush his cheek with my hand. I lean forward. Odahviing looks down at the carrot in my hand. I hold it up to his nose. Odahviing eyes it warily before looking at me. I only smile at him. He leans down and takes a small chuck out of the carrot. He pulls his head back, mouth working the carrot. I watch the stallion with baited breath. Odahviing looks at me as he chews on the treat before bending down again and taking a bite out of the carrot. I smile and continue to rub his cheek. I let him the treat he has now deemed worthy to be eaten. I run a hand through his mane, something that rarely happens. His ears flick as I run my hands through dark, chocolate colored hair. I always did love the natural streak of pale brown at the end of his mane and base of his tail. Adds some uniqueness to him. The halter around his face randomly scraps across my hand and fingers as he eats the carrot.

"You are such a beautiful boy," I murmur as I play with a lock of his hair. Odahviing snorts and lifts his head to look at me, only the leafy top of the carrot left in my hands. I smile.

"See. I won't hurt you, and I will try my hardest to keep you safe," I tell him.

I only get a snort in response, but the stallion lets me continue to play with his mane, something I am grateful about since Odahviing hates his mane being touched. Odahviing soon starts to lean into my hands. I smile. "Trust is only the beginning. Will you still be willing to trust me?" I mumble, thinking out loud.

Odahviing looks at me, his violet eyes twinkle in the son. He leans forward and nuzzles my cheek. I smile and carefully hug him around the neck, my hands tangling into his silky hair. I smile and close my eyes, enjoying this bonding moment between us.

First time with the Saddle

Postby koi97 » Sun Aug 23, 2015 1:06 pm

I cough softly and wave my hand around to dispel the dust that came off the saddle I stand before. I sneeze and rub my nose as the dust clears. I look down at the slightly worn out leather saddle. I pick it up with ease. I believe it is time I move forward in Odahviing's training, and that means starting up with the saddle. I am nervous. It's been a while since I had to fully train a horse. I exit the tack room and walk down the long hall of the barn. I head towards Odahviing's stable. I make sure to keep my horses together. I inhale, trying to calm my raging nerves as butterflies flutter around in my stomach. I stop before Odahviing's stall. He looks at me, head cocking to the side. He spots the saddle. I back up so my stable hand can help me. I let her bring out Odahviing. He neighs, tugging slightly before stopping. I carefully go around his side. I set the saddle down carefully, grabbing the blanket. Odahviing tosses his head and stomps a hoof. I straighten out.

"Easy," I coo softly as I rub his spine. Odahviing looks at me over his shoulder as I gently lay it over his back. Odahviing watches with wide eyes. I look at his snout as I carefully rub his side. Odahviing snorts and shakes his head at me. I move on, making sure all my movements are slow and steady. I pick the saddle up and turn to Odahviing. He presses his ears back as I settle the heavy western style saddle on his back. He slams a hoof down on the ground and whines as me. I rub his neck and shoulder as I coo softly to him.

After around seven minutes of this, Odahviing slowly relaxes, but he is still tense and wary. His ears are still back. I start to buckle the saddle up. Odahviing flicks an ear, and then his tail. I rub his cheek and smile. "It's okay. I promise," I murmur.

Odahviing looks at me with wide purple eyes. I smile and run my fingers through his mane. We stand there in silence. Once in a while, Warrior or Guardian will snort or neigh softly, but for the most part, it is silent. My stable hand walks away. I look at Odahviing and smile. I back away and return to his side to make sure the saddle is doing good. I look at Odahviing and grin at him as I pat his side. "See, is it really that bad?" I ask him softly.

Odahviing snorts. I giggle and take the saddle off carefully. I hum softly. Odahviing watches me. I usher him back into his stall with ease. I latch it moments later and head off to go put the saddle up. I look down at the saddle in my arms. I grin. I can't wait to finish Odahviing's training. I wonder what I should train him in, radio or dressage. I think radio will be better. I put the saddle away as I think. I chuckle softly and shake my head.

Ground Work

Postby koi97 » Sun Aug 23, 2015 1:22 pm

I shake my head at Odahviing as he snorts and neighs at me. I finish buckling the saddle up to him. He gives me a disgruntled look as I lightly pinch his side. I snicker at him and grab the long horse lead hooked up to his halter. I move to the middle of the round paddock we are in and carefully Odahviing looks at me as I tug on the lead. he snorts and mockingly starts trotting forward. I roll my eyes and snort in humor at his sarcastic movements. I turn carefully as he trots around in a large circle. I make him grow through different gaits so he can get used to the saddle. After about ten minutes, I am getting dizzy so I make him stop. I shake my head as the world spins. I chuckle to myself and look at Odahviing as he trots up, head up high same with his tail. I pat his cheek and shift the lead. I start walking beside Odahviing as I slowly recover. Odahviing walks beside me. I smile and watch the saddle, making sure it doesn't move or cause any harm to the bay roan wearing it.

Odahviing flicks his tail and traits a head of me. I let him go. He starts to trot around again. I let him, but I try to keep him at a slow pace so I don't get dizzy so fast. At least, he doesn't seem to mind the saddle to much. I smile happily at the thought. I keep up the ground work for a another hour before making Odahviing stop. We took small breaks in between. I grin and hug the stallion carefully.

"You are amazing!" I say as I pat his thick neck. Odahviing snorts and lifts his nose up in the hair in a snotty manner. I laugh at him and rub his neck. I check on the saddle. Still in the prefect spot. Odahviing walks around me for a moment before stopping when I make the lead go taunt. He looks at me in mild confusion. I smile.

"Time to go back in and clean up," I say. Odahviing gives a dirty look. I snicker. How he hates getting clean. I swear he purposely makes himself as dirty as possible just to make me stop giving him baths, but that will never happen. I do care about my horses and he will get his daily wipe down.Odahviing lags behind me, now getting all sulky. I snicker at him. About a week more of groundwork should work just fine, and then I get to test him how he does with a person in the saddle.

First Ride

Postby koi97 » Sun Aug 23, 2015 1:42 pm

I inhale deeply, suddenly very nervous about everything. This will be Odahviing's first time with a person in the saddle. I stand at his side, a hand on the saddle horn. I put my foot in the stirrup and lift myself up with practiced ease. Odahviing shifts under me as I get settled in the saddle. I grip onto the horn with a death grip, my knuckles white as I weight for Odahviing to calm down. We are in a larger paddock this time. It allows more room then the round one. I choke on my breath as my heart beats wildly in my chest. Everything swims slightly as I mentally freak out, thinking that Odahviing will freak out badly. After what seems like forever, Odahviing settles down. I grab the reins in a tight grip. I close my eyes and inhale, forcing myself to relax. Once I am relaxed, I open my eyes and look around. I click my tongue to spur Odahviing on. He jerks forward a bit. I inhale shakily before Odahviing smooths out. I gulp as I make Odahviing walk. He presses his ears back. I breath deeply, trying to relax once more. A lot of things can go wrong. This is our first ride together.

Odahviing walks around the perimeter of the large paddock. It is more like a showing area. I look around, studying the bleachers and the roof. Slowly, I begin to relax. I look at Odahviing. His ears swerve around, but he doesn't seem as skittish. I lightly tap my heels into his side. Odahviing tosses his head back and neighs softly, but starts to trot. I let him trot around for a few minutes before making him canter. After canter I let him gallop. I start to laugh, feeling totally relaxed. I love riding. It makes me feel so free. Odahviing gallops around the paddock before slowing down to a cantering trot. I smile and laugh happily. I move the reins to make him turn or slow down. We just ride, forgetting about the world around us. I stop when I hear somebody call for me. I tug on the reins. Odahviing stops. I look over, seeing my cousin. She smiles at me. I turn Odahviing. He neighs softly at me in slightly protest but I urge him towards my cousin. I rub his neck as I giggle and bit here and there, now feeling like a giddy child on a sugar rush.

"Wow, he is beautiful," my cousin says in awe.

"He really is! This is his first time with a person in the saddle, well let me tell you, he is full of surprises," I say, smiling. My cousin laughs while Odahviing snorts, his coat gleaming with a light sheen of sweat. I rest my head on his neck as I trying to calm down, but it is hard when all I want to do is just let Odahviing gallop while I sit on his back. I let out a dreamy sigh and my cousin laughs. I wave her soft and slip of Odahviing. He looks at me with a haughty look in his eyes. I pat and rub his cheek before grabbing the reins and leading him out. Now it's time to really wash him.
