First encounter-
I looked through the crowd of horses trying to see which horse I would hope to end up with. I meet eyes with this one mare and she was beautiful. They opened up the gait and the mare looked away and trotted forwards into the pathway leading to my trailer. She stood calmly as the vet updated her shots and gave her a look over. Her hooves were over grown and her teeth needed floating. She was also filthy speaking mud was caked into her fur. She had deep blue/purple eyes. "You're lucky that you got a nice calm one." The vet was admiring her tho she had many flaws. I reached out to touch her muzzle but she quickly pulled away in fear that I might hurt her. She soon smelt the treat in my pocket and nudged and it. I pulled it out, and she took it right off of my hand. "Poor girl must be starving. I think I have a name for her though. Tessa, my younger sister who passed away due to cancer." I knew quickly that Tessa was the perfect girl for me.
-Adjusting to the new home
I brought Tessa home and unloaded her into her stall. She looked very confused and kicked her stall door, trying to open it. She then started to lick the cold metal bars in between the empty stall next to her. I went to the feed/tack room to grab oats and barley to put in her stall. She quickly chomped all of it down while I went on to get her some water. As I approached her stall, I saw her jog away from the door, still being scared of me and other humans. She was sniffing a lot of different things and tried to taste different things to try and get used to the place. A few weeks passed and Tess finally was settling into the place. She would now approach me when I came to her stall in the mornings and would let me lead her to the paddock.
♥ 3. -Introduction of the halter (here you can describe or draw what their halter will look like)
I had already started to introduce Tessa to the halter when I would lead her to the paddock every day. So, she was practically used to the light bluish/gray halter by now. But, when I first introduced it to her, she would start to throw her head until I finally grabbed a bag of oats. She also in one point of time tried to nip at me, so I would take a five minute break until she wasn't as fussy. She evuentally got tired of me trying and let me put it on. I gave her extra oats that night a put a carrot on the side of her stall door.
♥ 4. -Meeting a friend (can be another horse or other animal)
I now thought that it would be time that she could meet Bailey, my cocker spainel dog. I walked Tess out to the round pin and tied her up to the post. I then called for my other four-legged companion to join us. Bailey trotted up to the fence and crawled under it. She came over and my tolter sniffed the head of the strange animal to her. My pooch licked her leg and backed away, thinking that she would get trampled over when Tess lifted a leg. I untied Tess and let the two run around together. They were having a blast out in the drizzly arena. I soon called for the two to come over so I could take them in before the storm arrived.
♥ 5. -Gaining your horse's trust
I already earned my tolter's trust and didn't really need any work done to gain her trust. She has trusted me for months now and has been loving to work with me lately. She is always optimistic in learning new things and loves to be groomed and brushed. She is kind, sweet, and gives so much back to me. I found out that my girl loves music and is very fast, making her excellent at barrels and pole bending. I thought that it was time to try her with the saddle in a few days.
♥ 6. -First time with saddle (how they react to having the saddle put on for the first time)
I brought out the green and baby blue saddle out to the tacking up post that I tethered Tessa up to earlier this morning. I brought out a few treats and called for my cousin to come over with her tolter. She arrived with her girl and let her out in the paddock. I asked for my cous if she would hold a treat while I am putting on her tack. She held her head forward as I placed the saddle on her back and tightened the girth. My cousins tolter, Lacy, was prancing around the arena. I took my girls lead and walked her around the pathways until she got comfortable with the saddle on her back. I tied her back up and let her out in the paddock with lacy.
♥ 7. -Ground work (work done without someone in the saddle)
I woke up the next morning while my cousin was still here to help me. We lead the two out to the arena where we were going to work with them. The two alternated in ground work. We started with poles and eventually advanced to cavalletties and small cross rails. We thought they were doing well enough to take them out on a trail ride. So, we went to the tack room and grabbed the tack. We saddled up and were ready to head out.
♥ 8. -First ride
We headed out to the trail which included the same types of ground work we were workin on. We of course gave them a break before we headed out. There were also water breaks out on the trail. We headed out to the beach area (as we call it.) We started out at a trot and speaks up to a canter. I quickly found out that I had chosen the right class for her. I was training her on western, so of course I didn't jump her on the trail. Instead, we loped to the side of them. On a break, we stumbled upon an old abandoned arena with barrels set up in it. We went into it and worked on the barrel pattern. She did so well, so we headed back to the barn and gave them the rest of the day off.
♥ 9. -Free spot (you may choose your own topic for this is last one. It can be placed anywhere in the order above or it can be the last piece you do. up to you ^.^ )
First grooming-
I tied Tessa up to the wash stall and got a bucket of warm, soapy water. I started up by brushing/currying out the dirt and mud. Then, I grabbed the bubbly substance and put a sponge in it. I scrubbed it up and down her body with the sponge and then rubbing it in with a jelly scrub. I conditioned and shampooed her mane and tail before rinsing out her soapy body. She stood still for the most part, but took a few steps. I poured the rest of the bucket on her and rinsed her off again. I picked out her hooves before I walked her out to dry off. Once she was dried, I lead her back to her stall and gave her treat for allowing me to do what I did to her today.
