Writing Piece:
Lygari snorted as the lights flickered off with the snap of a switch, the door sliding closed. A few seconds of shuffling and clicking later and the barn was locked up for the night, most tolters already dozing off.
But Lygari’s fun had just begun.
The devilish mare waited until the silhouette of the pathetic human that had locked her in there had disappeared over the hill before turning away from the tiny window at the back of the stall, bright blue eyes glittering mischievously. Just the faintest bit of moonlight shone through various cracks in the stable wall, creating a mosaic of light and dark on the stable aisle. Lygari pressed the side of her head against the bars near the front of her stall, trying to catch a glimpse of the lock. A few well-placed kicks later, and her stall door swung open, releasing her to destroy everything in her path.
And that’s exactly what she did.
Just as the sun began to rise above the horizon, Lygari stopped to survey her doings. Halters and lead lines were strewn all over the floor, a jungle of colors all mixed up. Various accessories were thrown about as well, most half-smashed. Hay was dumped along with any water she could get her hooves on, and some saddle soap mixed in. Content with the mess she had created, Lygari flicked her ears, catching the sound of the human returning to plan the morning activities and feed their animals.
She waited until the human was nearly at the stable door before trotting into her stall, pulling the door closed behind her. With a final glance at the ruined stable, Lygari lifted her head and made a sound almost identical to a human’s whistle, a three-note tune. From around the corner trotted the barn dog, tongue lolling, following the human’s command for him to approach them. He walked right into the middle of the mess, reaching down to sniff at something right as the human slid the door open.
Lygari was as close to smiling as a horse could get, listening to the human scream and scold the dog while pretending to be unsettled. They never caught her; she always found a way to place the blame on something else, or make it seem like an accident. By day, she was a sweet little obedient mare, but when the moon rose into the darkened sky, her eyes would shine with a devilish glint, ready to cause trouble.
Now she only had to wait until nighttime to wreak havoc once again.
