Introduction ::
Hello there. My name is Electric Sin, though I'm mostly referred to as just Sin. So I suppose this is the part where I describe myself, right? Well, let's get it over with then.
I'm reserved and don't say much. I don't trust others easily. I can get very curious with things I'm not familiar with. Even though I may not say much, there are times where I can ramble on and on, especially if I get nervous. Once you get past my shy exterior, I'm fairly easy to get along with and am pretty laid back and mellow. To others, I can seem scary at first because of my silence. In truth, I'm a giant cuddly teddy bear. A-at least that's what I've been told, anyways. *ahem* Anyways.. I can get embarrassed very easily. Probably the most surprising about me is that I am a lowkey daredevil.

(( omg im so sorry this turned out WAY longer than I meant it to ;u; ))
* A/N :: All other horses mentioned that's not Electric Sin or Phantom in the story either belong to me or Triscuit. No outside tolters/horses are used.
Sin watched the other tolters on the farm going about their business, a small curiosity inside him like a pebble. He'd only been in this place, whatever it was called, for somewhere over a year and, frankly, he wasn't really impressed. It was the same as the old horse farm he'd lived at before he came here. The other tolters around him were all minding their own business. At this point in the day, a sunny afternoon, no clouds in sight and a light cool breeze, the humans were doing, well, whatever they do at this point in the day. They returned later in the day to feed them before it got dark, as well as other chores and various things with the horses. Sin himself didn't have a rider yet, as the other horses liked to remind him, so he was usually left to do his own thing on the farm.
In a way, that was nice since Sin didn't particularly care for humans. Don't get him wrong, he didn't hate them, he just didn't see the need to keep horses locked up in a stable or pasture all the time. On the other hoof, though, it was quite boring doing nothing all day. He'd taken an interest in watching the horses that trained for competitions. One of the stallions, A seal bay brindle named Odysseus, was disciplined in Eventing. Sin had watched Odysseus and his rider training and it just seemed so surreal and magical. Once, Sin had gotten the chance to ask Odysseus about Eventing and what it was like. Odysseus had explained it as being a perfect harmony between human and horse performing a number of events across three or so different disciplines.
The way Odysseus talked about Eventing, it was clear the older stallion had an appreciation and love for the discipline that Sin could only dream about. One day, whenever he finally had a rider that is, Sin hoped he would be trained in Eventing as well. Of course, he has watched the other horses with their disciplines as well. One horse was a hunter, another was a trail rider, there was a parade horse, and more still. However, Eventing had a sort of swagger and glamour to it that really drew Sin's attention to it and made his pulse race. Hopefully the humans would notice his interest when Odysseus and his rider would train and start training him in it as well.
A few weeks later, it was as though his wish had been fulfilled. It was the break of dawn, everybody, human and horse, were just getting up for the day. He first noticed when the farm's most hyper and boisterous, it would seem anyways, mare, A grullo tobiano named Xerestrasza, first pranced up to him. At first, he didn't suspect anything out of the ordinary as this was how she approached everybody. She was rambling on and on to Sin, who was barely listening and still blinking sleep from his eyes as he was allowed to wander into the pastures. It was still a wonder how this mare was the offspring of Odyyseus, who was more stoic and serious.
Xerestrasza had mentioned something about a human coming to meet Sin, for one thing or another, later in the day. Sin's interest peaked and he began to fully listen to the young mare. She explained that a human had taken an interest in him from the town nearby and they were coming to meet him for a reason she didn't catch. Was he being sold again? It wouldn't surprise him. This was the third farm he'd gone to in the past year or so. But something about how Xerestrasza talked about this told him it could potentially be something different. When asked how she knew this, Xerestrasza smiled sheepishly and said she'd overheard the conversation the other day between two of the humans.
The rest of the day, after Xerestrasza had scampered off and left him in peace, Sin's head was filled with several questions racing through his mind for the rest of the day. What were the humans planning? What was going to happen to him? Would he still be here tomorrow? Endless questions. No answers. The only thing to do at this point was to wait and see what was to happen. The prospect of getting a rider never even crossed his mind.
It wasn't until that afternoon that his questions were answered. The old, graying woman that seemed to be the operator of the farm and another human, a male that had a striking resemblance to Odysseus's rider. Dark brown hair, shining blue eyes, and a cool expression. Perhaps they were related? Sin listened to them exchanging words, though he never could fully understand human-speak. They approached him slowly, chattering to themselves. They'd occasionally look in his direction and point. It was a quick exchange that ended with both of them smiling and shaking hands. The possibility of being sold once more popped into Sin's mind.
Sin took a deep breath as he took his place in the arena, his nerves going haywire with anticipation and nervousness. This was it. His first competition. Months of practice. Months of hard work and trust. He hadn't necessarily been a natural at Eventing but, with the help and patience of his rider, he'd eventually started getting the hang of things and was finally ready to enter into the competition he now stood in. It was exhilarating. The event went way better than Sin had first thought it was going to. He'd made a few errors but they ended up taking third place. That was definitely a victory in Sin's book. His rider seemed to be just as relieved as Sin was.
After his first Eventing competition, Sin and his rider began practicing once more. More competitions were entered. Sin and his rider managed to snag first place a few times, though they mostly remained at second and, sometimes, third. Sure, he wasn't championship material like Odysseus but Sin was confident he'd get there too someday. After all, Odysseus had been doing this for years.
art by meMore months passed. There was one night in particular where Sin couldn't sleep, no matter how hard he tried to. Sighing, he leaned against the door to his stall, only to find it hadn't been properly locked. He ended up stumbling against the door's sudden movement and fell with a loud thud. Getting up quickly, Sin looked around at the other stalls to make sure he hadn't awoken anybody. Thankfully, the others all seemed to be in a deep sleep. With Sin's not being able to sleep, he opted to roam around the pastures outside. He'd be back in his stall before the humans noticed. What could happen?
Once outside, Sin followed the wooden fence that outlined the farm's property. He followed it until he found something very peculiar. Near the edge of the property, he'd found there were a few boards missing from the fence. He could wander out, if he wanted. Curiosity sparked within Sin and he took a tentative step across the farm's threshold. He smiled to himself, feeling like a child that knew a secret nobody else knew.
As he got farther and farther from the farm, excitement replaced curiosity and Sin began galloping across the hills. He eventually made it to the nearby tiny town and he slowed. Nobody was awake. No lights, other than the street lamps, were on in the buildings. He would have thought it was a ghost town if he didn't know better. For a moment, Sin thought how amusing it would be to look out of a window and see a several hundred pound horse trotting through the streets nonchalantly.
He wandered aimlessly through the town, the sound of his hooves clicking on the pavement. Sin had no real destination in mind. He soon found himself in front of a different horse farm. It was similar to the one he lived at. He wondered what the horses were like at this farm.
"Hey!"
A voice startled Sin and he jumped backwards. Looking around, he tried to find the source. Nearby, on the other side of the farm's fence, was a rose gray mare. She approached him more with a similar curiosity he had too than hostility.
"Hey?" He said back.
"You're not from Tipping Ranch... Who are you?" She asked him.
Tipping Ranch? Was that the name of this farm? "I-I'm, uh, Electric Sin.. Or Sin for short."
"Electric Sin... That's an odd name." The mare commented, giggling to herself.
"I guess."
"My names Phantom."
"That's a nice name."
She giggled again. "Thanks. So, what brings you to Tipping Ranch? Won't your humans be worried about you? Where are you from?" Phantom asked him question after question. It was almost overwhelming.
"Uhh... I snuck out from my farm.. Deer Cove Acres, it's across town. My humans are asleep."
"Oooh, a rebel. How thrilling."
"Not really."
"You're not much of a talker are you?"
"N-no. Sorry."
The two stood at the fence for what seemed like hours, maybe it was for all he knew. Phantom kept asking questions about Sin, Sin would answer, she would make a comment, then the process would repeat. As they talked, Sin noticed she had a very similar marking on her shoulder. It was weirdly shaped, like a piece would fit into it if it weren't a marking. Oddly enough, he had the same thing on his shoulder, though they were both colored differently. He wondered for a brief moment if that could have meant something. Sin just shrugged the thought off, telling himself it was just a coincidence.
They talked until the morning sun was beginning to shine above the hills around them. Sin found himself talking more than he'd ever had with Phantom that night. They talked, laughed, told as many stories as they could about themselves and their homes. Once the sun was rising, the two said their goodbyes and Sin galloped home. Hopefully he'd make it before the humans noticed he'd gone missing.
Sin had entered his stall once more mere moments before the humans came to feed them for the morning. A few other horses noticed his entrance and gave him some sideways glances but other than that, nobody was the wiser about his midnight adventure. The whole day was spent with Phantom on his mind. He had a weird feeling about her. Not a bad one, per say, but... weird. He couldn't really describe it. He'd found a horse that he could actually open up to, and in the matter of hours! He'd never told anybody, even here at Deer Cove Acres, about his past. And yet, he'd told Phantom everything. What's better, she listened to him. And he listened to her story. He wasn't sure if a horse could blush but Sin certainly felt his cheeks grow hot as he thought about the mare.
Night came around again and Sin found himself at the same gap in the fence. Would Phantom be there again? He had an internal debate with himself as he decided on what to do. He ignored his common sense and was soon standing in the same place as the night before, hoping to see Phantom again. He'd enjoyed the talk with his new friend yesterday. Sin couldn't see any other horse in Tipping Ranch's pastures. He felt his heart lurch and disappointment soared through him unbidden. He turned to leave-
"Sin!"
Sin's pulse raced as he turned to see Phantom trotting toward him happily.
"Phantom." he greeted.
And so the night repeated itself. The two horses stood on opposite sides of the fence at each other, chattering away like old friends. Same as the previous night, the two talked and joked until the sun was peaking above the hills again. The two said goodbye, even though it was clear neither wanted to leave the other yet.
"Come back tonight, please?" Phantom asked, her Lilac eyes flashing in the growing light. For a moment, Sin felt as though he could get lost in those eyes if given the chance.
"I will. I promise." Sin replied before heading back to his own farm.
This routine went on for nearly three months. Sin would do his daily routines, have an Eventing competition here or there, then meet Phantom in the dead of night. Each day, his feelings towards Phantom got stronger and more confusing. It dawned on him after a conversation with one of Deer Cove Acres mares. She had noted once when he had spaced out in his thoughts that he looked like a mooning foal. Sin found himself embarrassed and stuttering as the mare explained about her first crush experience also. No matter how many times Sin explained it wasn't a crush, the mare didn't believe him.
But now, he wasn't so sure. If this was what love was, it would certainly explain his anticipation waiting for Phantom, the way his stomach would flutter when he saw her, and his racing pulse when she laughed. It tore at his heartstrings when he realized there was no possibly way they could even be together, being from separate farms and all. He doubted the humans would agree to a deal or something either. The thoughts that crossed his mind confused and frustrated him.

It was that night, when he was to meet Phantom again, that he finally mustered up the courage to tell her how he truly felt about her. He liked her. A lot. That much was certain to him. Sin was afraid she wouldn't feel the same way but once he told her, her eyes had lit up like fireworks had gone off in them. She smiled and laughed and, for a moment, Sin thought she didn't feel the same way. His ears flipped backwards and he felt uneasy, feeling like she was laughing at him. But that wasn't the case at all, he found out.
"Hahaha, I'm so glad you finally said that! I've felt the same way for awhile now. I could never tell if you felt the same way so I never said anything. You don't know how relieved I am to hear this!"
"R-really?"
"Yes!"
It felt as though a huge stone had been lifted off his back and Sin could breathe better now that his fears had been laid to rest. After they admitted their feelings, the night resumed as usual with them talking. It was a wonder, three months of this and they still hadn't run out of things to talk about. Sin loved every second of it. It wasn't often you could find somebody you could just click with like this. He doubted he could find any other horse like Phantom, either. Once they parted for the night, Sin vowed to himself he'd find a way to bring him and Phantom together, no matter what.
It was a few days later that he got an idea. It was risky and he had never, at any farm he'd gone to, thought of it. They could run away. Run away from Deer Cove Acres. From Tipping Ranch. The countryside was large enough that they could find a place to be on their own. He knew it would be tough. They'd never been wild horses. But he knew they had the smarts to survive. But.... Could they really leave their lives behind for each other? Sin was practically in hoof's range of being in an Eventing championship competition. Could he really leave that all behind on the drop of a dime? For a mare he only met a few months ago?
And what about Phantom? Phantom had her life at Tipping Ranch.
And their friends and riders would be left without so much as a word. As Sin tried to think of another way, any other way, he realized with a sigh, that there was no other way. They had to run away to be together. That was the only way. And if they didn't, they would never be able to stay together. He brought up the possibility to Phantom when he next saw her. She laughed first, called him crazy even. It was crazy, Sin knew that perfectly clear.
"Think about it. There's no other way. Phantom, it's either this... Or we won't be able to stay together."
"What are you saying?"
"Do you really think we could have a perfect relationship when we both live at different ends of town? Meeting at midnight every night? With a fence between us?"
Phantom's eyes fell to the ground and she let out a long, drawn out, quiet sigh. "....I suppose you're right... But..."
Sin felt the first pieces of his heart breaking. She was going to say no. She wouldn't leave her friends. Her family.
"Could... Could we really do it though?" She asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Run away... Survive.. Be on our own... No humans."
"We can.. We will." Sin said determinedly.
"I ... don't know.. Can I think about it?"
"Of course."
They stood in silence for the first time since they first met each other. It was uncomfortable to Sin and he started fidgeting, not quite sure what to do or say. Phantom's gaze was still focused intently on the ground, deep in thought.
"Yes." She said, finally looking up at him.
"Yes?"
"I'll go with you."
Happiness, excitement, relief, and several other emotions rushed through Sin. He couldn't help but jump up and down, neighing in delight. Phantom giggled. "Shush, you're going to wake someone!"
"Haha, sorry." Sin settled down though he felt as though he could run to the ends of the Earth at that moment.
"When do we leave?" Phantom asked him.
"Tomorrow. That way ... we can say our goodbyes at least."
Phantom nodded and they departed for the night. It was early for them but they had a long day ahead of them tomorrow, to say the least. It would be the last time they would see their friends and they wanted to make the most of it. The following day, Sin was in an exceptionally good mood and the others noticed it quickly.
"Jeeze, somebody found the sugar cubes.." Harley, a blood bay stallion who was known for his moody temperament noted as he passed Sin.
"Maybe I did." Sin commented. Harley just rolled his eyes and continued on his way.
Sin made sure to say goodbye to his friends but in ways to not make it painfully obvious he was up to something. The only one to really catch on to him was Xerestrasza, who came up to him towards the end of the day.
"You're doing something." She said, accusing him outright.
Sin was impressed if not slightly nervous at somebody finding out he was about to do something stupid.
"I don't know what your talking about."
"Earlier.. You said "Take care of yourself" after some drawn out speech to me. Sounds fishy."
"Maybe the humans bout trout again."
"Sin. Be honest with me"
It was weird hearing Xerestrasza being so serious but she was one of his closest friends at the farm.. He hated lying to her. Looking around quickly to make sure there was nobody around, Sin thankfully saw nobody in earshot.
"I'm leaving." he said.
"Leaving? You're being sold? I wasn't aware of this."
"No. I'm... Running away from Deer Cove Acres."
Xerestrasza gasped. "Sin! You can't! What about the humans? Your rider? Eventing?"
"I know, I know... Just .... Trust me.. Please."
"....Fine.. I don't like it.. .but.. fine. Can you at least tell me why?"
"I'm sorry. I can't. The less you know, the better." Sin wanted to tell her everything but, it was true, the less Xerestrasza knew the better it was for both of them.
"Sin tell me-"
"I can't." Sin just said, trotting quickly away from Xerestrasza. He hated leaving his friend but for Phantom, he would do anything to be with her.
The rest of the day passed quickly. Soon, he was waiting for Phantom at their usual place at the fence. It wasn't long before she showed up. They both exchanged silent words with each other, a simple nod of the head was all they needed. Phantom took a few paces backwards before charging full speed at the fence. She jumped over the wooden barricade, barely missing the top, and landed safely on the other side, though she stumbled slightly.
Sin trotted up to Phantom and they rubbed their heads against the other, finally able to be close. Sin was painfully aware that, throughout the months they'd been meeting, this was the first time they'd actually touched. And it felt like electricity between them. He loved and relished every second of it. The embrace was far to short, but they had to leave quickly in case they were seen.
The two lovers raced through the town together, hooves clicking against pavement loudly. Soon, they were on top of the hill that overlooked the town. They stopped and Sin couldn't help but take one last glance at their former homes. You could just barely make out Deer Cove Acres's buildings as well as Tipping Ranch's. Phantom came to stand beside him, shoulders brushing gently where both their odd puzzle shaped markings were. For a brief moment, Sin couldn't explain it, but he felt.. whole.
As the two turned and raced down the hillside and into the countryside below, where their new lives awaited them, Sin knew in that moment he'd made the right choice. This was where they belonged. This was going to be where they had their happily ever after.
