I don't know what I am or who I was.
I don't know if I was anyone or anything before I woke up here either.
I don't even know where I am.
The only ones I have met are the wolves in white coats, they take my blood, look and poke at me.
No one talks- and they don't answer when I ask them things.
Don't know why, am I special?
But why?
I don't know...
~

~
Another wolf came to me today, he didn't talk either.
But I think he was someone important.
He talk to the ones in the white coats.
Don't know about what, I didn't understand it.
Maybe I can hear something tomorrow.
~

~
The important wolf from yesterday didn't come back, he wasn't here.
but the ones in white coats were.
They poked more, measured me. They spoke over my head, I know my name now, or at least what they call me.
Drake.
It doesn't feel right, but I don't have anything else.
At least I have something now.
~

~
They took me out of the room where woke up today.
I am in some kind of cage, it's very big, and the ceiling is very far from the floor.
I have no idea why, maybe there is someone else in here too.
I will have to look around because I think it will be my home now.
~

~
There is no one else here, I'm alone.
I had almost hoped I could meet someone-
someone like me.
I found out that there is a room behind glass in one end of the cage they put me in.
I feel like a pet, maybe that I what I am, but it feels like something else too.
I think it's something else.
I will find out what.

~

~
I have been here for a long time now, I still don't know why I'm here but-
at least the white coats haven't poked more at me since I left the room.
I get a bit of food, two times every day, at least I know when it's a new day.
There are lights that turn off when it's night and others that turn on.
Over all, it's not that bad, not nearly as bad as the room with the white coats.
But I still want to know who I am and why I'm here.
~

~
I lost count on how long I have been here.
I only know it's been a long time.
But today was special, because I discovered today that I can fly!
I had decided to climb to the top of the highest tree.
I got close to the top, but the last branch broke and I fell.
As I was falling I spread my front legs and tried to stop from landing badly, but then something happened-
The falling ceased. I was hovering in the air.
It only lasted a second before I started falling again.
I flapped my legs and then I was hovering again.
It was amazing!
I stayed in the air for at least half an hour, flew around the cage.
I must have been able to fly before I came here. It came so naturally.
I had to land soon because I grew tired.
But it was amazing, and I got to know something more about myself.
~

~
They took me out from the cage today.
To a place with loops on pillars and other strange things.
They told me- well, someone near me, it was some kind of obstacle course in the air.
They made me fly it again, again and again.
Eventually I collapsed with exhaustion.
They let me lay there for a while.
I think I fell asleep, because I woke up in the cage again.
~

~
Every day Since I learned to fly-
They take me out from the cage, I fly the course till I just can't anymore and then I collapse.
When I wake up I'm in the cage again, it's exhausting, but I get used to every change they make.
But today was different.
There was a man in some kind of uniform outside of my cage staring at me.
There was hunger, greed in his eyes.
He wanted me, but I didn't know why.
It makes me feel uneasy.
At least he didn't touch me.
~

~
He has been here every day for a week now, just looking at me,
Staring.
I think he's going to take me away- No, I just know it.
But whatever his intentions are, I know they can't be good.
He feels, wrong, evil somehow.
I really hope I'm wrong.
~

~
I was right, sadly.
I was not in the cage when I woke up today.
Or well, it was a cage, but it was very small, much smaller than the usual one-
like a carrier or something, it had a handle on the top.
The man watching me for days was staring again and he was smirking.
It makes him look like, something- something- I can't remember.
I feel even more like a pet then before.
He chuckle darkly, then he turned and walked away, he didn't look back.
'Why me." I couldn't help but wonder.

~

~
The cage I woke up in is smaller than the big one I used to be in, but at least it is bigger than one I was in yesterday.
It has some trees and a high ceiling, so at least I can fly in here.
The man hasn't come back, but at least I get food.
~

~
I have been here some days now.
He came back today, took me outside.
It was so open I wanted freedom, so, I tried to fly away.
But they shot me with something that made me fall asleep.
And there was no food for me when I awoke that day.
~

~
I got to come outside every day, but I never tried to flee again after the first time.
As long as I complied to the man's wishes, I could stay outside for much longer,
The fresh air was refreshing, calming.
I did fly, but never to high, or for long.
At least I got to come out.
~

~
The days melt together, I don't know how long it was since I woke up the first time.
But I know it's a very long time.
I hope do get out of here some day.
But can't hope too hard, it won't do me any good worrying about it.
~

~
I was outside when it happened, men with weapons.
Bright lights blinking, alarms shouting.
No one looking at me, so I took my chance, it may be the only one I will ever get.
So I fly, I fly and fly and fly.
I'll never look back.
~

~
I flew over a big forest, the first day a saw a city at the other side of it.
I thought maybe someone could help me there.
So I chose to go there, will probably be there tomorrow.
I have sleep in the trees at night, I have eaten, but just barley enough.
I hope it will be easier in the city.
~

~
I did get to the city, it's so many people here, so many sounds.
Many of them pointed at me, others stared or just ignored me.
I try to get food but it's hard, I don't have any of this money thing they spoke of.
There are the thrash cans, it's never enough, but at least it's something.
~

~
I'm hungry, and tired, no food and nowhere to sleep.
It's hard, sometimes I think it would have been better if I stayed.
But I will never know.
~

~
I found a place to sleep today, I had to fly to get into it, so no one will find me.
I got some food from an old lady to, she was very nice.
I found an old blanket to, it had some holes in it, but it's warm, that's the only thing that's matters.
~

~
Apparently the place I found was a loft, there was a place under it.
I found out because there was a young boy there.
There was a lot of things, books, pillows, blankets, toys.
It didn't go down, just looked.
He disappeared after some time, so I don't think he lives there.
I toke one of his pillows when he was gone, I will replace it before he gets back.
~

~
He saw me when I looked at him, just stood there and blinked.
He asked who I was, but I didn't answer.
So he asked of I would come down.
I did, and he just stared, but not at me, no, at my wings.
Wow, cool, he said, wonder in his eyes.
I cocked my head to the side, curious.
Drake I said, he seemed confused at first, but then he realized what I meant.
Avian, his name was.
We talked, he was an orphan, lived at an orphanage, but he was here most of the time, reading or out in the city, looking at bird of other winged creatures, like me.
I saw in his eyes, the way he talked, that they was his whole world.
So I smiled, tell him to tell me more, so we talk.
I think I just made a friend.
~

~
He came back the next day, we talked more, he had a book about birds with him.
Read it to me, I said I couldn't read, he stared at me.
Told me he would try to teach me, of he could.
I smiled, thank you, I said.
~

~
He have new books with him everyday, I like the ones about dire wolfs and special wolfs like me the best.
He have food with him too, and other small things, a dark blue bandana he gave to me, I always have it on, because it was the first gift anyone have ever given to me.
It's a new life, a new beginning.
~

~
Avian said he would show me the beach today, because after the first time I ate fish, I really want more.
But he said it was to expensive, so I would have to catch my own.
I asked him to take me to the a place where I could, he said I would have to wait, because it takes time walking there, and he had school, so he couldn't be away from the orphanage that long.
That was three days ago, and today I'm going to catch my own food for the first time.
I'm excited, I hope I will be able to catch something.
Avian walks out of the building, I wait, he told me to come after him, but not to close.
So I wait, start to follow before he rounds a corner.
I look around as we walk, it look nothing different then the our building.
It's bleak, everything is grey and colorless, there 's trash outside the trash cans.
I huff, really, the big cage was more exciting.
As we walk, the houses gets bigger, and there is more people.
Now people start to whisper, point and stare at me, some take up their phones.
I ignore them, soon we come to a bridge, I can see a beach from it.
Avian have stopped, so I come and stands with him.
You have to fly down yourself, he says.
Suddenly there is shouting, high sounds.
It's like his escape all over again, but now people are trying to catch him.
In my panic I take to the air.
Fly! Avian shouts to me, now!
I do, I fly as fast as I can, to the beach, I don't know why, but something draws me there.
I'm almost over the water when when I hear sounds behind me, in the air.
I beat my wings as fast as I can, trying to get away from it.
Suddenly something hits me.
The things around me blur, I fall.
Everything turns black.
After a while
I groan, try to open my eyes.
Then I remember, the beach, the shouts, the thing in the air, Avian!
I flail with my wings, try to get up, I have to know if Avian is okay.
"Stop it." I hear.
Something hits me in the head, someone's tail I realize, because some paint stuck on me.
I get my eyes open, stare at the wolf before me.
He looks like me!
I have no idea where I am, there is only water around me.
And my wings are wet, I'm at the other's mercy.
I swallow, afraid.
The wolf started talking, I keep a careful eye on him, even when I listen.
"You had a really nasty fall, if you try flying here and your wing isn't good." he said. "then you'd inevitably fall in the ocean and drown." he said before walking to a pile of food and nudging it towards me.
I blink, startled when the other give me the food, why give his own food to me?
My eyes grow huge, there's fish!
"eat it before I do." he said lightly. "I spent a lot of time hunting this down while you were asleep."
I swallow, keeping an eye on the other and carefully coming closer.
I take the fish, but leave the things I don't know what it is.
I back away from the other. The finned wolf stared right back, he didn't seem to notice I was afraid."
I start eating, but my eyes never left the other wolf.
he blinked and stared off towards land in the distance. "Scientists are stubborn creatures, aren't they? always wanting to know what they don't understand."
He sat and ate some food from his pile, very happy that I didn't touch the strange red things it seems. "it's the gulls you need to look out for-"he started but before he could finish a seagull flew down and began to peck the food he had.
Scientists?
Ah, it hade to be the ones I woke up with.
I donn't fully understand what the other was talking about, but I
understood enough.
Gulls? What is a gull?
Suddenly a bird landed at the others food.
it was going to fly away but The toothed wolf opened his jaws, I jumped back when the other caught it.
I whimpered, hiding behind my wings.
I carefully peak out in time to see the other spit out the bird.
I swallow deeply, uneasy.
"Who are you?" I whisper, eyes in the other.
"sorry about that, I hate Seagulls...not only do they steal your food, but they taste like their own droppings." he sat down lightly and flicked an ear at me before replying. "My name is Lorixander." he said politely nodding his head before smiling a toothy grin, surprisingly friendly and a lot nicer looking for how he appeared just seconds before. "What's your name? I don't see many of my own kind around here." he asked curiously.
Lorixander, his name was.
I gave the other a small unsure smile.
"It's okay, I just, I'm not used to others, you are the second person ever to talk to me, " I shrugged.
I looked a bit closer at the other.
He had a grayish blue pelt, spikes along his back, and tail like a water living creature from one of Avian's books.
I blinked when he asked me who I was.
"Drake," I mumble, eyes downcast.
Lorixander blinked and chuckled lightly. "It's alright." he had a warm chuckle and sat down, despite his bitterness towards seagulls, he didn't seem to be threatened or angered towards me. "I do not speak to many wolves either. I'm usually mistaken for a 'sea monster' he said before slapping one of the little red creatures he'd hunted towards me. "these are the tastiest, you should try one." he suggested. "if you want to catch them, they do crawl on the beach, those dreadful seagulls flock around them."
I smile, the other wolf seemed nice.
I look down at the red thing the other gave me, head cocked to the side.
I bow my head and nosed at it, it did smell quite tasty.
I take it into my mouth,I bite into it, it's crunchy.
I swallow it, yes, it is nice, but I like the fish better.
Look for the gulls then, if he wants to catch them.
The other gave me some more, so I eat another one.
I jump back when the other wolf disappear in the water.
I shake my head, he will come back.
I eat the rest of the red things.
I blink when the other comes back up, startled.
The fish lands before me.
"Thank you," I smile.
I eat two of them, but leave the rest, my body is not used to this much food, I don't dare eat more.
"Why are they after me?" I ask after some time.
"I can't remember anything from before they had me, but I don't know why..." I look down, eyes downcast.
Lorixander shook his head. "I don't know." he replied. He shook his fur dry before sitting beside his pile of things that were left and looking at me. "They must have done a lot to you then. You probably shut down and put it out of your head, or they gave you something so you wouldn't fight to get back to what you had." he stretched across the ground. "Can you tell if they hurt your wings?" he asked rolling onto his back and exposing his stomach to take in the sunshine.
"Maybe," I mumble.
"Could be, but I will probably never know," I say sadly, scratching on the ground with my right wing claws.
"Oh yeah, sure," I sit up, spreading out my wings.
I beat with the one away from the other, don't feel anything out of the ordinary.
"They are fine," I smile at the other.
Suddenly I remember something.
I jump up, eyes wide.
"Avian! I don't what happened to him!" I pace uneasily.
Lorixander blinked and nodded. "Alright, hop on my back and I can take you to shore, but you'll be on your own from here on out." he added. "I have to stay by the sea where I can find food and shelter."
"Thanks," I mumble.
I climb into the others back, I place my wings so the lay flat against his back.
I try to keep steady, I really hope my Avian is alright.
Lorixander blinked and nodded swimming back across with me on his back, he was precise and swam quickly. "You'll find your friend, I'm sure." he said reassuringly gently stepping onto the sand.
I jumped of him, shaking out my wings.
"Thank you Lorixander, really thank you, I hope we met again," I smile.
I start walking, I throw one last look back at the other wolf before I round a corner.
I really hope I will see him again.
But Avian first, I can hope later.
Relationships Drake and Avian are close friends, Avian helped Drake when he first come to the city.
In the beginning it had most to do with his fascination with everything with wings.
They are almost alway together, Avian trying to teach Drake as much about the world as he can.
Drake finds Lori interesting, he likes that he have found someone like himself.
He really hope he will get to see him again, but hopefully at better circumstances.
