My paws hit the surface as I tried to pull myself up. I could hear faint yells and maybe even an ambulance before I lost the sense of sight. Not like I had that anyway, underwater and all. My limbs grew tired before anyone could save me. This was no bet, I just wanted to conquer my fears. It was my foolishness, thinking I could swim in the deep end, and the price was my life.
"Crissy!" I heard a scream, and them I felt shaking. Maybe I could even see some light. This wasn't the pool, no. The brightness was easily artificial. I thought I felt a tug on my neck, it was soft, at least that what I felt until my sense of sight got control.
"Mom!" I realized that's who screamed, always so overprotective, it was sometimes nice, actually. If she wasn't so protective, I would've been dead now. I looked down at my neck... my moms scarf. "What's this for?"
"I-I thought I lost you... so I gave you my scarf.... you always liked to play with it when you were young." She was right, I use to pretend it was a cape when i was small enough. "Y-you can keep it..."
"Thank you...." And then I realized I forgot to ask where we were.

✦ How did they get their scarf?
The frosted winds of a mid-winter blizzard tore through her pelt, sending violent shivers across the small, weak body of Taiga. Just yesterday her family betrayed her by leading her high into the mountains, and left her there in the blink of an eye. She was alone, with nothing but her heavy breath and the roaring of the powerful winds. There was no sign of food or shelter, not even another Plumerian to help. In just a single day her frail body was at its limit, and before she could do anything about it, the world around her were black.

The next day she awoke to a seemingly crystalized paradise, but as she noticed drops of water falling, she soon realized it was all ice. A soft green scarf was wrapped cozily around her neck, and she lay upon a large, fuzzy white cushion. At least, what she thought was a cushion. This supposed cushion shifted below her, panic bubbling up inside of her. She immediately leapt off this growing figure, whirling around to face whatever this was. This creature was covered in long, soft white fur, but had a primate-like appearance to it. A soft gasp of disbelief escaped her jaws. Was this the legendary yeti?!

The yeti stretched out his lengthy right arm, spreading open his dark grey hands as his fingers dragged gently across her head. This friendly sign soothed Taiga's worry and tension, so she sat down. As memories returned, her enlarged emerald-green eyes shot up to the mildly wrinkled face of her new friend. "Y-You saved me, didn't you?" With a grunt, the furry creature nodded his head. In response, an uncontrollable grin swept across Taiga's face. "Well uh... Thanks for that. I was in a rough situation." Yet again the yeti gave a nod of the head. Not much of the speaking type, it seemed.

For five nights Taiga stayed in the safe embrace of her newly-made friend, but the harsh reality was dawning upon her. She couldn't stay with the lone yeti forever- someday she'd have to return to her own kind. When she explained to him that she was leaving, a look of devastation was clear on his face. On the sixth morning, when the blizzard had cleared and the snow began to melt, Taiga left the scarf she was given back in the yeti's den.

Just a few hours later, heavy footsteps alarmed her. When she turned around to take on the foe, she found the yeti with the scarf clamped tight in his powerful hands. He knelt down in front of her, carefully wrapping the scarf around her neck. A beaming smile and a touched giggle helplessly slipped out of her, tears swelling in her eyes. It felt almost cruel to leave such a kind creature alone, but it was time. "I promise I'll visit as much as I can." I assured my big friend, who in response clapped his hands together. Once I made my promise, I hesitantly continued my journey. Alone again.

How did Guthrie get his scarf?

Flurries flew rapidly in the Northern Alps. A small plumerian plopped
through the snow, struggling with each
pawstep. "Mom?" He called, his breathing shaken
by the cold.
"Mom? You promised you'd come home soon!" He whimpered, huddling
in the middle
of his tracks. Guthrie had been searching for his mother
since that morning, when
it wasn't so cold. Now, night was closing in quickly, and
the young plume couldn't
find his way back to the place where he and his mom had
made their home.
Looking down, Guthrie saw the only trace of his mother; his scarf.
Oh mama, but you promised.. He
cried in his mind before continuing on, drinking
in the last sweet scents of his mother clinging to the turquoise scarf.

Extra art, if you'd like to view the setting.

'ello. the name's kaiwell, but you can call me kai. my full name is kaiwell simon, but nobody uses my last name. it has no meaning
anymore, for it has no family to identify me a part of. so i'm just kai, the homeless boy, with nothing but a scarf and some smarts

>>>
<<<

as stated above i'm a boy. i feel like nothing more than the whisp of a ghost, and i know that nobody will ever love me again, so i
would greatly appreciate you referring to me as they or them. he and him seem like memories from a past life. no longer my own

>>>
<<<

my mother pulled out the collar of my shirt, a look of sheer determination on her face. i was wearing long black pants with two white stripes down the outsides, and a white collared shirt. my grey jacket hung on a hook by the door, next to my mothers far larger teal sweater. she said she got the teal one because it reminded her of me. it was the first day of grade four, and i had recently turned nine. i felt proud, being an intermediate student now. no longer the smallest fish, being dwarfed by the older ones. my squeaky white sneakers danced across the room to slip on my coat, and i heard the loud voices of other students passing by my house. "get going now, kaiwell." my mother said, and i glimpsed a splash of tan and pink fur and feathers turning around the corner, into the hallway. "goodbye!" i shouted gleefully. looking back on this moment i feel pain. pain that i didn't have a more in depth conversation with the most important and lovely figure in my life. for i would never see her again.

i stepped out the door, into a brisk day, both warm, and cool a the same time. a gentle breeze blew, and clouds blotted out the glaring sun, that penetrated the fluffy clouds like it was on the insides of my eyelids. i walked in an average gate, not fast, but quick enough that i knew i wouldn't be late. my new plain black backpack hung light on his shoulders, empty except for my small tan and teal spotted lunchbox. my mom had packed me pistachios, a green apple, slice of cold margarita pizza, and a small hard candy. all my favorite foods. it made me sick she used some of her last days to make me a nice lunch. she was the nicest mother I could have asked for. i stared down at the sidewalk, placing paws in front of each other as if i were on a tightrope. i was walking slow and carefree, when i heard sudden sirens, nothing more than a far away scream of noise. i dismissed it immediately. ambulances and police cars weren't uncommon, and like in any neighbourhood, you heard the distant sirens every once and a while. my eyes darted around, scanning the area for the police cars. i turned, walking backwards, and my stomach flipped when i saw a police car blocking the view of my house. my vision went black and i felt faint for a moment before i took hold of consciousness again, and sprinted for the house.

a policeman started towards me, obviously intending to keep me from the house. he was a very pale tan, so sickly similar to my mother's own coat. but instead of white and pink leopard like spots, he had a creamy white and black tiger-stripe like pattern on his back, neck, and on the bridge of his nose. his ice-blue eyes were calm, and i looked up at him, rethinking my plan of trying to run past him. "are you..." he looked down, scanning a paper on his clipboard, "kaiwell simon?" he finished, lifting his serene gaze back to me. "y-yes." i stuttered, in a hushed tone.

i don't think i need to say much more. my mother was killed in a car crash. i ran from every orphanage. and i never take off this sliver of a memory; a square of the loveliest plumerian to ever walk this earth's sweater. i live on the streets, with a little wolfdog puppy name kita. she's all i've got, next to my smarts, and my wit.

Extra explaining for they got their scarf:
Paradox seems paranoid for the most part, the scarf helps. The scarf being bright helps him see bright, rather than dark.
Paradox prefers this, however he does seem to hallucinate still with the bright scarf. But it helps more when he puts glow sticks on it.

Paradox got this when he told his mother he was afraid of the dark, his mother gave him her favorite scarf and whenever he was scared he wrapped himself in the bright scarf.

When Gwen was born his parents have given it to him, as most kids grow out of the fad of holding blankies, he never did, he eventually made it in to the scarf in which he wears around his neck because it makes him feel invincible to any harm.
