Motivation: Although Keahilani lives in Hawaii, she vehemently refuses to go near waterfalls and is hesitant to even approach rivers and other bodies of water. In any case, waterfalls are her strongest fear; the sound of one is enough to send her into a panicked state. Besides just the anxiety, she is also frequently dehydrated and consequently a bit frail.

Keahilani's golden coat color is what inspired the reason for her fear; the phobia originated from a tale she was often told when young, about how she was born from fire and the sun and that venturing too close to water would cause her to melt and wither away. This tale was actually meant to protect her from going too close to large falls, which were beginning to swarm with humans, but ended up having a much larger impact.

She has never had a bad experience around water; her fear is essentially baseless. She's just the type to believe superstitions and legends very easily, and doesn't have the courage to change her ideas now.

Motivation: Penelope has never seen the beach, but she has heard stories and imagines that it would be terrifying. Thoughts of waves that crash, crabs that pinch, jellyfish that sting, and sharks that eat fill her mind. It seems like such a rough, merciless environment for a delicate flower like Penelope. The fact that one can look out over the water and see absolutely nothing for miles brings little comfort. She would feel totally defenseless, small, alone, and pointless in such a vast world.. not to mention the fact that if she was swept out to sea, it would certainly mean her demise.

Motivation: Kayton is very frightened of all waterfalls in general, but this one in particular is why she's afraid. When she was a filly, Kayton was sniffing around the edge of the river, when she lost her footing and fell in. She was dragged by the current, flailing, to the edge of a waterfall. Kayton thought she was going to die when she fell over the edge. Thankfully, she made it with no serious injuries. Kayton is scared of waterfalls and falling into them.

Motivation: As ironic as it is, 'Tiri is terrified of going to the desert. She is constantly worrying about rattlesnakes, dehydration, and hunger. Her greatest fear in the desert would actually have to be backing up into a cactus, though. She just thinks that would be worst thing possible. It's definitely an interesting reason to be afraid of the desert.

Motivation: Hanna will not go anywhere that has long grass. The reason is simple and quite silly: the young mare is very very skittish of anything creeping up on her or tickling her and when a breeze blows and makes the grass move it tickles the back of her legs and rump. This sensation makes it out to be as if someone is creeping up on her or something icky is crawling on her skin and it terrifies her to the highest extent.

Motivation: This little mare is afraid of savannas or any place that looks like one for a couple of reasons. One is that she is afraid her coat will blend in so well with the environment that no-one would be able to find her if she needed help. Second is that she is terrified she would curl up to sleep and wake up to find her herd missing because they didn't see her, therefore leaving her behind.

Equid Name: Diorè, variant spelling of "dior" which is french for golden.

Motivation: Diorè feels that if she were to walk under the darkened canopy of the dead forest the tree spirits would come and steal her gold quips to take as their new golden branches and leave her with ugly gray smudges for quips.

Equid Name: Lady (Named after an old palomino mare we had when I was growing up.)

Motivation: When you look at the place, it doesn't seem like there is anything to be afraid. But when Lady was a filly many would tell stories of this little area, stories of how it was haunted from something that happened there many years ago, and how you must never go there. Being the little filly she was the stories scared her, and she came to believe in them. She's never gone to this spot, and she never plans too, in fear of the stories being true. Whether the place is truly haunted or not is unknown.
