Postby HannahBug » Sat Sep 20, 2014 11:16 am

What is a Kidambura?
A Kidambura is a tall wolf-like creature with long ears and lynx tufts at the end. the markings under their eyes are called streaks, and they will always match their eye dot. they also have abnormal large pupils. they have long mussels and a fury mouth to go with, despite that in some cases the Kidambura can have horns, they can come in any shape. with a long neck they have fuzzy manes that can also come in any shape, (or size) and even rarely be made of elements. with long legs, body, and tail it helps the Kida's run faster. one thing you can note is that a kida will always have a animal pattern. their tails have a small tuft at the rump that leads of into a long brisk tail much like a kangaroo that has a tuft of fur at the end.

"Oh, dear Winter, why do you hold so much power? As your frosty grasp holds us tight, and as the winds blow, your beautiful death grip swirls around me. Your eyes, deep gray eyes, watch over us, and as your graceful breath surrounds us, you laugh, for we are mere mortal beings, barely worth your time. And yet you come here, knowing that it would not be the same without you."

It was dark when the Kidambura reached his cave.

The winter had gone colder, and now his only refuge was floored with ice. It was a good thing that he was already used to the weather, and that he knew how to step around the slippery earth. He picked his way through the terrain until he made it deep into the cave's throat, where two piles of dry logs stood.

Breathing slowly, feeling the rush enter his lungs, the Kida started a fire. The inside of the cave had a warmer temperature, and even though it wasn't fully shielded from the winds, the logs were dry, and he could set them ablaze. Smoke billowed out of the flames, and though they were small, the Kida was satisfied.

Sometime later, the fire had grown. Flickering orange tongues hungrily writhed around, twisting and turning with the slightest breeze, as if the winds were playing with them. The fire bent and roared, and the winds whistled.

The Kida tossed another log and fed the flames, and it responded with a huff. The air suddenly became still, and the fire no longer moved about. Only its tips wavered, and no longer did the Kida feel the air lift his fur, except for a tiny current ruffling his ear.

"Dear winter," he murmured to himself. "Thank you for staying with me."

As if in reply, the winds outside softened.

- - -

As always, the Kida's dreams were unpleasant.

He felt himself falling, the air pulling at his fur and ears. He was plummeting just like she had been, but he didn't feel fear. He felt calm, as if he knew what was happening, but then the ground appeared beneath him. He hit the ice with a loud thump, and then he saw her life flickering in front of him, like it had all those years ago.

"Baron! Baron, no!" said the little child. Her hands were caked in mud, slipping over the edge of a cliff. As Baron the Kida's eyes witnessed, the girl barely managed to cling to the ledge. Her twin gray eyes were wide with pure fear, and the winds wailed as the blizzard pounded down on their backs. They sang perilous songs of death, high-pitched screams echoing in the back of his mind.

"Hold on!" yelled Baron, despite knowing she couldn't understand him. As unlikely as their friendship was, Baron had never guessed that this would be its end. Her petite fingers were probably cold and frozen by now, and if she let go, she'd fall.

Alarm bells ringing in his head, Baron ran for her. She was screaming at the top of her lungs now, her coat torn by the rocky surface of the ledge. Her small red boots were dangling on thin air, and her voice was breaking. The little human child couldn't hold on much longer.

Finally reaching her, Baron immediately grabbed for her coat with his mouth. He carefully hauled her to safety, but then the ground cracked and shook. The ledge gave way, and Baron didn't have time to think. He leaped for a nearby tree, and the earth beneath his paws crumbled.

"Baron!" the girl yelled.

She was hugging him tightly now, probably out of fear, but she was weighing him down. Hardly able to hold on, Baron made another leap. He tried imagining himself as a mountain goat, and he gained balance momentarily. He made for another holding, and the girl cried as she buried her face in his thick fur.

And then the winds sang again, a hair-raising screech distracting them both. Baron leaped down a tree's thick trunk, but its branches blocked his way. They slapped at him, and he was pushed back to the edge. The girl sobbed again, but no longer was she in fear. Something was happening to her, for she loosened her grip on him. "Goodbye, Baron..." she murmured before letting go and falling far, far away...

- - -

Baron woke up gasping.

That cursed nightmare had haunted him for days. The Kida rubbed his head with a swollen paw, and only then did he realize that a tiny pebble had probably worked its way into the paw pad. It hurt, but not as much as the pain he had felt when he had lost the girl.

Sighing, he limped outside, where the air was still and lifeless. As soon as he emerged, however, it stirred as he did, and gently greeted him with a small breeze that ruffled his fur. Baron limped towards the nearby stream, where a trickle of water snaked down the rocky cliffs.

He dipped his paw in the water, and it instantly felt numb, but would help nonetheless. While doing so, Baron reflected on the little girl. He had never been to the place where she had fallen ever again; it was too painful a memory. He could remember her face and eyes, an untouched innocence who had loved him as a companion.

The girl who had always visited him each day, willing to walk quite the impressive distance from her village just to see him. She'd brought him into the village once, where she had played with him. An incident with purple paint made him easy to distinguish ever since; not that he minded. They'd frolicked like true friends, until that blizzard came.

Again, the air caressed Baron. It soothed him, telling him not to worry; as if the girl's spirit was one with the cold air. He hated winter, but at the same time, Baron was glad to see it around the corner each year. And then he remembered why: it was not only a season, it was also her name.

"Don't forget me, Winter. It'll be spring soon, and I'll miss you, but when the November air comes back, be sure to greet me first." He smiled and looked to the cliffs.

"Winter..."
