Petra had a good relationship with her boyfriend - they shared common interests that they'd talk about for hours on end, their personalities mixed well and they were really close, kind of like best friends. Their third anniversary had just passed, and things were going along fine, though Pet had to admit that it had been a little slow lately. She hadn't had that thrill in her chest when she saw him, nor had she felt compelled to give him an all-encompassing hug as a way of greeting. She couldn't quite put into words what was happening, but she felt they were losing their touch, seeing things differently. 
She brought it up first - he didn't seem all that surprised. They unanimously agreed to go their separate ways, maybe even to stay friends. After that, things were going okay for Petra, she wasn't too broken up about her first love going downhill. It had to happen someday, and why stress over the inevitable? That was, until she saw him with another parra. 
Her heart felt like it was going to tear straight out of her chest, and her breath wouldn't come. She just stared at the couple - at the way he looked at her, the way he had looked at Pet all these years; the way their shoulders bumped in a cute first touch sort of way and how their eyes were locked in a silent moment just between them. Petra couldn't feel anything but that sinking feeling deep in her gut, and then she felt something else, like she was burning on the inside. 
Her heart was torn and her soul was distraught, and she realised that she still hadn't let go of her so called 'love'. Her jealousy for this new parra was immense, and she had to fight with herself to keep the hatred at bay. She could be a better parra. 
Her first heartbreak was when she found herself not without her partner, but when she saw her partner loving someone else.
