Being confinedEvery aspect of the temple fascinates Quin, who, quite simply, appreciates its beauty. Angkor Wat is where the wood of living trees seems to flow like water over stone and where moss grows so lush and green that it resembles velvet. Ancient towers rise from the jungle, dwarfing all else, standing for centuries like sleeping colossi as the world moves around them - It's a timeless place. Quin can't help but make up stories about the people who used to live in and around the area as he walks through the courtyards. It's hard not to make up stories about Angkor Wat!
0 Personality:..:: Nervous ::..
One of those high-strung people who always seems to be on edge for one reason or another, Quin seems to be perpetually twitching. He also has a bad habit of talking faster the more nervous he gets. This means that he can start out a conversation speaking at a normal pace, and, if something happens to upset him, end it talking so fast that he sounds like an auctioneer with a sugar buzz. It doesn't help that he suffers from a couple of oddly specific phobias. Of course these phobias aren't normally crippling in polite society, but they can be a bit inconvenient if they pop up at the wrong time. To begin with, Qun has Aichmophobia, which is the fear of sharp and pointy objects. This does not include butter knives or safety scissors, but does include steak knives, normal scissors/shears, needles, stiletto heels, and, every so often, another parrapup's beak if it just so happens to be longer and pointer than usual. Quin also has Pediophobia, or the fear of dolls, and Hemophobia, the fear of blood, which goes beyond mere squeamishness into the realm of fainting if he so much as sees a drop of the stuff. He does not, however, fear crowds in the slightest, and actually feels safer in direct relation to the number of other people he has around him - He is much less likely to run away screaming from a knife when surrounded by friends than he would be if he were on his own.
..:: Flighty ::..
One of the first things most people pick up on when associating with Quin for any period of time is his short attention span. He's prone to daydreaming and is easily excitable, yet he also seems to be incapable of holding a grudge. He hops from subject to subject and back again without pause, and isn't afraid to set aside important matters for a little bit if he begins to feel stressed out. After all, they'll be there waiting for him when he comes back, won't they? He likes to say that he lives in the moment.
..:: Imaginative ::..
Quin likes to think of himself as a Bard. A teller of tales, a singer of songs, a spreader of joy. As such, he spends a lot of his time building his vocabulary and collecting material. But that's not the only way he shows off his creativity. All sorts of vivid, unique, and sometimes just downright strange little phrases seem to work their way into Quin's speech of their own accord. For example: "May your lucky clover turn to dust!" or "Remember - a wool sweater plagued by moths, no matter how bright to begin with, still ends up as caterpillar poop in the end!" and "Don't do that or you'll end up looking like silly-putty after an elephant's gone and sat upon it!"... These are only a few of the colorful phrases that Quin uses in polite conversation on a daily basis. Especially when he's excited. And, to make things even more interesting, it's not unusual for him to think up new words on the spot when he can't find a real one that will do what he wants it to (Think Lewis Carroll's Jabberwocky). For Qiun, making things up on the fly is a pleasure rather than a source of dread, and he will gladly create new stories and poems to share whenever he has a willing audience. His insults and curses follow a similar pattern, often created spontaneously in the heat of the moment, thereby managing to utterly confuse the person on the receiving end rather than making them mad. Sometimes one of Quin's insults is so random that the receiver even doubles over with laughter, which, as it turns out, is a nice way to diffuse a tense situation.
..:: Flashy ::..
Quin absolutely loves to wear hats, scarves, spats, and any bright shiny baubles he can lay his paws on, not all of which boast complementary colors. Of course in addition to his naturally bold plumage and his large stature, which by themselves are enough to turn heads a few heads, his fashion sense is almost guaranteed to make him stick out in a crowd. Which is saying something because there are so many parrapups that are considerably more neon in hue than he is. Not to mention more verbose. It's just that... those parrapups don't tend to wear bright bright orange stripey scarves that are twice as long as they are tall. But hey. Quin likes what he likes. If his attire just so happens to attract attention at the same time as it serves to make him happy, that's all the better. More people paying attention to him means more potential friends.
..:: Quiet ::..
Overall, unless he's weaving one of his stories, Quin tends to be on the quiet side, much preferring listening to speaking. It isn't that he minds hearing his own voice (He actually quite likes it!), it's just that he already knows what he has to say. That is, he knows his own experiences, thoughts and feelings. On the other hand, he doesn't know what other people have to say. And that has the potential to be very interesting. Therefore Quin reasons that If he spends all his time yacking, he might use up time that could otherwise be used by someone else, who could have a very interesting experience to relate or an important lesson to teach that could become the basis for a new story. So being quiet makes life more interesting. Of course he can be quite chatty with friends and people he knows well, because he feels that after a while, he gets to know them almost as well as he knows himself, so there's no reason to hold his tongue. This doesn't mean, however, that if an old friend comes to him with a new story to share or starts in on a topic they've never discussed, that Quin won't begin giving them more of the spotlight, just as he did when they first met.
..:: Wandering ::..
Quin actually harbors a very healthy streak of curiosity that often ends up getting him in trouble. It also leads to his semi-nomadic lifestyle. In fact, he likes to claim that staying in one spot for too long gives him itchy paws because he can't help but wonder what - and who - is to be found around the next corner. There's no sense in staying in one spot when there's so much more out there to be seen! Besides, he's a self-made bard. If he didn't travel, he'd never collect new stories, he'd never find fresh audiences, and he wouldn't have so many friends. The last one is the most important to him. Quin takes pride in knowing so many people from so many places. On the flip side, his traveling doubles as therapy. He's always done his absolute best not to let his anxieties hold him back, and by putting himself in such a wide variety of situations in such a wide variety of places, he hopes to one day overcome (or at least dull) the effects of his phobias.
