[Wind Song]

The cadelornes species is a distinct hybrid mammal from which many genera have decended. They share close characteristics with the Ethiopian wolf, the common equine and are recognised by their single horn, which is similar in structure to that of the hippotragus family. They are an extremely old species who have also had influence on myths and common preconceptions. It's believed creatures such as the unicorn, the quilin and the amarok have all evolved from glimpses of the shy cadelorn, developing into legends we recall today.

i have chosen to name this gorgeous guy cypress, as a cypress is a type of tree that can grow in swamps.

The water saved me.

I still remember my friend- he had another name, but we all called him Marcus. In our early days, we play-fought, as children do, and as we grew older, we roughhoused. Friendly competitions were no longer about how serious we could get without our mothers breaking it up, but about winning. And I was simply the best at winning- right after Marcus. We were best friends within our own world, but whenever we ventured into our minds, we could be warriors. We'd fight and make up stories about our powerful fictional selves in the light of day, and at night we'd come home limping and smelling of blood hastily washed away. It wasn't that we hated each other, it was that our fantasy was so strong it consumed us.

The circle of friends we shared knew about our imaginary-rivalry and were more than happy to cheer us on. Most of them were a little younger and a little weaker, so Marcus and I rarely fought them, but when it came to the battles between us, we were ruthless. It was a miracle neither of us got killed between my bloodlust and Marcus' brute strength.

As the sun rose, Marcus and I clawed at each other, writhing on our favorite clifftop. The families usually remained in the more sheltered caves and woods higher up in the mountains, while our battles took place in a more open area, hidden from their sight. A swamp spread below and eventually gave way to sparse human homes, though they never bothered us.

I shoved Marcus off of me and stood, panting and grinning in triumph, reaching forward to shove him to the ground. Marcus' closed eyes flashed bright as they opened and he grabbed me, knocking the wind out of me as he pushed me over.
The ground didn't catch me, and neither did Marcus, though the instant he realized what had happened he reached for me and too toppled off the edge of the cliff. We both fell, branches slashing us, toward the swamp below. It was over in a flash- for Marcus, anyway. He was dead before I could even look at him, neck broken by a branch or maybe a hard rock hidden in the water.

It enveloped me, welcoming me, and I wondered if maybe I was dead, too. But no, it had chosen me, and when I found the courage to open my eyes I found myself safely wedged between two rocks, prevented from sinking or hurting myself further. It was so seemingly impossible that I decided right then and there that the water had chosen to save me and not Marcus. How else would I have survived in such an implausible way?

There was only one option in my mind- the swamp was my home, and leaving it would be like giving up the protection of a guardian. My family would never bother to look for me- the cliff was too steep and extended for too far, and they would assume I had died just like Marcus, trapped in a web of my own blind stupidity.

lark loves water, how it connects to everything and how it brings things back to life.
since he was young, living in a swampy forest. as it was the only place for miles
with enough water to survive. even though she despised the cold murky water, lark was
forced to live in the swamp. from dry winters and hot ummers, the swamp was hit with
a terrible drought, setting the trees and grass ablaze. she had fled to a small portion of
swamp with was still intact. everyday for years, lark headed out to search for life.
as the water returned to the swamp, the plants began to flourish, showing lark the
beauty of water and how it nourishes and brings back what had disappeared.
and from then on, she began to appreciate and love the water and rain.
