UnicornDoingDressage wrote:Week 1: Welcoming CommitteeI woke up from my long and restless night to my buzzing alarm clock. All night I was thinking about one thing, and one thing only. The Mustang Makeover. Many thoughts swirled through my head that night, some bad and some good. I sat up and yawned. Sleepily I rubbed my eyes and squinted over to the alarm. 8:00 sharp. I slipped out of bed and threw on a black tank-top and a pair of Nike shorts. I walked down the stairs in my grandparent's old farm house. I was to stay here the summer to help at their farm. The smell of freshly baked bacon filled my nostrils. "Well hello there sleeping beauty." chuckled my grandfather. "Nice to see you are up." He said. "Yeah.." I signed. I ate my breakfast slowly. It was time to go pick up my mustang. Nervousness swelled up inside me. "I have to go pick up my mustang now." I said to my grand parents. I walked outside into a hot and dry Texas morning. I stepped into my green truck and turned on the AC. "I better get going." I said to myself. I drove off. The road was dusty and bumpy. And finally I saw the sign. "Pick Up Mustangs Here". I got out of my truck and a energetic man said "Oh Miss Loretta, your mustang is over here." He lead me to a large arena. He pointed to a frightened mare, standing in the corner. "She is gorgeous.." I said. The man got her into the trailer and shut the door. The words on the trailer said "MM '14". He hooked the trailer to my truck and said "Good luck Miss Loretta." "Thank you." I said. I looked at my mare one more time, before getting into my truck. "You look like a rose.. I think I know what to name you." I drove off. We finally made it back to the house. I heard the mare make various whinnies and crashing noises. I stopped my truck near a large pasture with a run in shed, food, and water. I made sure the trailer was aligned with the entrance. I opened the trailer door. The mare trotted out and sniffed the ground. As she was exploring I pulled an apple out of my truck. I walked across the fence to where she was and held out the apple to her. She had never seen an apple before, she licked it once, and then bit it. She saw me look into her gorgeous blue eyes and neighed softly. I gently stroked her head cautiously, and she slowly dozed off. I went into the house and shared my news with my grand parents.

http://dressageisaboss.deviantart.com/a ... 1403452113I sat inside gazing into the pasture. My grandmother walked in "Do you know what your going to name her?" she asked. "Yes.." I paused. "Her show name will be 'Rose of Shattered Solider' and her barn name will be 'Tycoon'." My grandmother smiled. "I like those names very much. I looked out into the pasture again. Tycoon was galloping around the field. "I guess she gained her strength back." I said to myself. I laughed. From downstairs I heard pots and pans being rattled around. I went downstairs for lunch. As I ate I was planning out exactly how our training was going to go. I went up to my room afterwards. I watched videos on YouTube of free riding, and I daydreamed of doing that with Tycoon.

UnicornDoingDressage wrote:Week 2: Basic TrainingI turned off my buzzing alarm. I sprung out of bed and threw on some clothes. I rushed down the stairs. "Someone is happy today." said my grandfather. "You betcha'!" I said. I ate breakfast as I peered at the pasture. Tycoon was in the run-in shed. I walked out to the barn, where I grabbed a halter, lead rope, and a grooming kit. I walked to the pasture, and I gave Tycoon her food and water. I entered the pasture slowly. The curious Tycoon walked up to me cautiously. I put out my hand, which held a peppermint. Tycoon gratefully swallowed it and nickered happily. I stroked her head very slowly. She let me pet her. I gently slipped on a red halter over her head. She tried to bite it.. But she couldn't reach it. I laughed. I stroked her mane and found it was very tangled. I clipped on the lead rope and tied her to a skinny tree by her run-in shed. She curiously sniffed the lead rope, and also tried to bite it. I grabbed my grooming kit, and pulled out a curry comb. I let her sniff it before combing out all the mud that was stuck on her beautiful chestnut coat. I then hard brushed, soft brushed the same approach/way. Now it was time for her mane and tail. I took my mane comb and gently stroked the mud caked in her mane out. The tangles disappeared. I combed out her tail, very cautiously. A fly landed on her leg and she kicked out, but luckily I was out of the way. Then the hardest part came, the picking of her hooves. I had to teach her to pick her hoof up, and taught this by putting pressure of her leg and eventually she figured out to pick it up. I picked the rocks out of her hooves one by one. After this mare was practically spotless, I figured some trust training would be good. I first started by leading her around with my lead rope. She was very confused at first, but figured it out. I praised her with every thing good she did. Then I unclipped the lead rope and walked around. It was almost as if Tycoon had forgotten no lead rope was attached. She followed me around the whole pasture. I stroked her face. She whinnied softly. I then pulled out a small tarp from the barn and showed it to my curious mare. She spooked at it and ran behind me several times, and I calmed her down by stroking her. I then put the tarp over her back and around her body. She put her ears back at first, but then realized the tarp meant no harm to her. I praised her. "Your doing great girl!" I said cheerfully. I patted her shoulder and decided to leave on a good note. "I will be back, you should rest now." I said. The mare neighed. Do with that I walked back to the house.

http://dressageisaboss.deviantart.com/a ... 1403524099I made it back to the house. As I pulled off my boots my grandfather walked over to me. "Your doing great teaching her so far." he said. "Thank you!" I said. I decided to eat lunch late. As I was eating I heard pouring rain coming down. "Oh I hope Tycoon is in her run-in shed!" I exclaimed. I looked. She was in her run-in shed. I went into my room for a little while to read. Cody, the family dog curled up next to me. Lightning filled the room with light every minute, and I started to hear hail. I peeked through my curtains. "I better get Tycoon in a real stall, for safety.." I threw on a rain jacket, grabbed a halter and lead rope, and ran to Tycoon. I put on her halter quickly and clipped on her lead rope. I trotted her into the safety of the barn, then I lead her into a stall. I patted her neck. "Stay dry my friend." I ran back to the house.

http://dressageisaboss.deviantart.com/a ... 1403787342I came through the front door soaked. "Dinner is ready!" grandmother called. I pulled of my boots and rain jacket and sat at the table. As I ate my soup I felt relief that Tycoon was okay in the barn. I finished my dinner. I headed upstairs to my room as Cody, the family dog, started whimpering. I looked outside to see what was wrong. Heat lightning lit up the whole sky and thunder roared furiously. "It's okay." I said to the dog. I heard the horses in the barn getting loud as the rain got louder and more powerful. I sat down on my bed trying to get the storm off my mind. I started reading a book. Then I had an idea to create a name plate for Tycoon. I got a piece of paper and started writing in fancy letters her name. I then got ready for bed early, because I knew I would have trouble sleeping in the noise of outside. I threw on some pajamas and sat downstairs with my grandparents.
