»Reason;; Her name was chosen for her resmblence to certain austrailian opals. She also grew into the name with her love of gems and how precious she is. She chooses to go by another name because she doesn't like the sound of her first name, but she kept it close.

»Favorite Weather;;Clear Spring Days- When the snows are melting, and the sun is bright.

Opal is not someone who comes in contact with the weather very often. When she was still a young girl, just barely a teenager, she took to living within caves. Having come from a desert land, the closeness to the earth and the cold of caves, as well as the relative isolation, reminded her of the only thing besides her brother that she had ever liked about her home: the cold, barren nights, when there were no screams, no stinging eyes, and no blazing heat. In her caves she feels safe, despite the numerous dangers her home holds in and of itself. She is cut off from the world, its weather and its people, but not entirely.

The weather outside will eventually always have effects on the conditions within her earthen home. The effects of the weather where she chooses to live are slower and come more in cycles. From the constant dripping of the water during the late spring and summer, due to the melting snows and heavy rains, to the utter silence in deep winter, she still lives with the consequences of the weather. During heavy storms, flooding of caves and even cave ins are possible in "younger" caves. During long droughts, the caves see little yearly growth. Heavy snows and ice can trap her within during the winter months. Over the years, Opal has learned what weather to wish for to keep her as comfortable as possible within her dark home. Consistent rain showers are good for a few months of steady dripping throughout the cave, a sound that Opal loves. Bouts of warm summer days can bring fresh smelling breezes through upper caves. However, while she appreciates those kinds of weather, her favorite is the clear, but cold, spring days.

There are three reasons that these days in particular are special to her. The first is that these days bring the melting snow from the mountains that cause most of the dripping within the cave for most of the year. The second is that it is when the migrating bats return to the seaside cave system she calls home to begin their new families. Their screeches and rustling are a welcome sound to Opal, but also one she can easily escape by going to the lower tunnels. The last reason resides within the lowest tunnels of all. While in other caves this time of year can mean dangerous sudden flooding, in her home caves, it marks one of the few times that the water will be high enough, but also calm enough, for her to swim within her lowest caves. She has never liked the bright light of day, and being out in the open makes her feel insecure, but she loves to swim. It is almost only during this kind of weather that she can swim in her favorite place: within her own caves that open up onto the sea.

When she was a little girl, Opal was very timid and shy. While she has outgrown her shyness in some ways, it has stuck around in many others. She is still easily embarrassed and prefers to be alone, going so far as to live in caves to avoid civilization. However, there is another reason she chooses to live in caves, and that is because she feels a deep affinity for them. When Opal first found herself standing on the same stone that arches overhead and feeling its sturdiness beneath her paws, she felt an inner peace that she had never felt anywhere else. The rough rocks and moist air make her feel safer, stronger, and more confident in herself.
Opal has an adventurous spirit and a curious mind, so she will often leave her cave home to find and explore others. This involves traveling across lands and often through civilization. She does her best to interact normally with others when she has to, but it isn't always easy. When she is feeling nervous or shy, she focuses on the ground on which she stands and reminds herself that she is as strong as the stones. And she really is. She has always hung on with a strong spirit even when she was small. She knows that she is not the bravest kia, yet that knowledge and her determination to live as she chooses anyways are her real strengths.

»Quirks;;
When embarrassed, Opal's voice gets higher pitched. The higher the pitch, the more embarrassed she is. If she is actually around someone, this is a downward spiral leading to her being unable to do anything but squeak.
Opal frequently flinches or freezes when she sees sudden movements or hears loud noises because those are both danger signs where she lives.
She is very perceptive of the little details around her and can generally see things others don't notice, but she has a harder time comprehending bigger pictures unless from a creative or emotional view point.
An active dreamer, Opal will often lay down in one of her favorite "dens" and just stare at the cave ceiling for hours without moving, quietly day dreaming and thinking.
She specializes in creating art with the rocks and gems she finds in her caves. Those that she doesn't save for Zamir that is.

An introvert at heart, Opal is someone who long ago ceased to care about the ties between herself and others. She prefers to think of herself as someone who almost doesn't need anyone else to survive and be happy. She may have come from a large family, but she doesn't believe that there is anything in the relationship to cause her to really be connected to them beyond blood. She has not seen them since she was a child, hurt and afraid, running from a situation she had no idea how to handle. Except, that is, for the one who followed after her.

However, everyone, even those who wish to be alone, need someone they can interact with and rely on. There are two people whom Opal calls her friends and family. People who have been there for her through hard times and who she knows she can trust.

»Opal & She;; Opal has always had a fascination with softer lights, such as the stars and things that glow. Any creature that is bioluminescent intrigues her, but when that creature is also a cave dweller who showed her how to survive within a cave when she first decided to live in it and shared their home with her, that creature will forever be her friend. Wish is named that because Opal had thought she was a shooting star at first and had wished upon her for a friend. The fish does not speak, but among close friends, words are not necessary to understand each other. Wish is the only living being besides her brother that Opal feels truly safe and comfortable with.

»Opal & He;; Having come from a very large family with five siblings, Opal is not someone who values blood ties. Zamir isn't special to her because he is her brother, but rather because he has been so much more. Their family was poor. When he was, he was never in a good mood, spending his free time trying to drown memories in liquor. Zamir was the oldest brother who stepped up to care for all of his little siblings and his mother. He was the man of the house and like a father and friend to timid little Opal. When events at home escalated, it was Zamir who stood beside her throughout her roughest patches and took care of her. He is not just her brother: he is her closest friend, protector, mentor, and role model. These days, Opal only sees Zamir a few times a year, but those few times are treasured by Opal as she can show him how much she has grown, both in body and person, and make him proud.
