Story when Human adopted Vian: Well, Ethan didn't know where they were going. He was suffering with depression as he had no friends. His mother felt a friend was the thing for him so she took him to the local pound. Ethan was looking through all the dogs when he saw Snow and he stopped. They met eye to eye and Ethan just knew and could tell Snow did too. Ethan's mother asked to see the dog and they brought her out. Ethan watched the dog as she walked towards him and licked his face. Ethan smiled and laughed hugging Snow happily. It was the first time in years since his mother had seen him smile and Snow was smiling as well. They quickly adopted Snow and took her home.

Winter kept running; she didn’t stop or turn back. Branches whipped at her face and arms, grabbing at her hair as she charged through the trees. The snow underfoot crunched with each step as she climbed higher and higher. Hot tears stung her cheeks only to be frozen by the biting wind that tore at her clothing. Her boots caught on roots, stumps and rocks, causing her to stumble. Only the branches around her kept her from falling face first into the icy snow beneath her.

Snow began to fall around her, slowly at first but quickly turning into a blizzard. The trees were thinning out to the point where there were none. The adrenaline coursing through her veins faded, leaving her out of breath. She collapsed onto a nearby rock and started sobbing, her tears freezing as they fell to the ground.

The cold mountain wind whipped around her, swirling the snow into a curtain she couldn’t hope to see through even if her eyes weren’t filled with tears. Yet, through the snow and tears, she could still make out a shadowed figure. It was fox-like in size and shape, though maybe a bit taller, and she swore she saw wings stretched out behind it. She began to back away, wiping her tears as she went along, only to have it draw closer to her.

As it moved close enough for her to see, she confirmed that the wings were in fact real. It’s fur shone an icy blue despite the thick, snowy haze brought on by the blizzard. “H-hello.” she choked out.

The strange creature seemed wary, though only slightly. Cautiously, it folded its wings to its sides and moved closer. Winter reached out and slowly started to stroke its head, rubbing it gently behind the ears. Their eyes met, and it was like they were connected in ways no one could hope to understand. “You know, you’re like the friend I never had; the rainbow after a storm. Maybe the future isn’t as dark as it seems. You’ve given me hope that one day, it can be bright again.”

The creature’s ears perked up as she spoke, specifically at one word. Hope. Winter noticed this and smiled. “Do you like that name? Hope?”

The creature seemed to nod, as if it understood what she was saying. “Hope it is.”

Suddenly Hope stood, leading her towards a cave to wait out the blizzard. Winter followed, ready to get out of the cold. She had left her jacket back at her family’s cabin and was starting to feel it now that she was no longer burning with anger and sorrow. Once in the cave, she noticed it was somehow warmer than outside despite the winds constantly blowing through it. Not in the mood for questioning anything, she sat against the far wall.

She was surprised when Hope came and laid beside her, though she really shouldn’t have been. They were more alike than anyone could ever know. Both were alone, cast aside by the world. Outcasts, if you will.

For the next day or so, Hope stayed by Winter’s side. When the snow stopped and the clouds finally cleared, Winter rose to begin her trek back down the mountain. Hope stood as well, following her to the mouth of the cave. “I have to go, Hope. Maybe we can meet again sometime?”

Hope shook her head at this. Winter, not understanding, simply shrugged and left. Hope stayed by her side the entire trip down the mountain, though it really wasn’t all that far to her family’s cabin. Winter tried many times to get her to stay behind to no avail, as Hope refused to leave. When they arrived at the cabin, Hope still had not left, though she could have easily slipped away into the trees.

After taking a deep breath, Winter stepped into the cabin. Her parents turned towards her and instantly broke down in relief at her safety. Hope crept in the still open door, shutting it with a kick from her hind paw, and took a seat near Winter, who had joined her parents in a hug. “And who is this?” her mother asked as the hug broke apart.

Winter looked behind her to see her one friend in the world as of that moment. “This is Hope, and she’s my new best friend.”
