Goldpaw lept through the undergrowth, chasing a squirrel. The brown furry creature had fallen ahead. Goldpaw, ignorant from the thrill of the hunt, didn't scent the harsh twoleg metal. Her paws fell down on the leafy ground, thudding. A quick snap followed, engulfing Goldpaw in a steel trap. A shrill yowl escaped her as the sharp teeth clamped her cheek and thigh. Blood poured, covering the lush forest. When Goldpaw woke, she was sitting in the medicine cats den, her mother crouching over her.
