~How he lost his tail~
To most dogs, leading the sled for a famous Iditarod team would be hard. But not for Cody. He lived for the thrill of the run, the rush of the snow between his pads. This was his 3rd year leading the pack of his litter-mates, and he felt da** good about it. When the announcer yelled go, Cody took off, without a second thought of how the others felt. He could see the other teams as they tried to keep up. This just made him smirk with anticipation as he ran. His human shouted orders left and right, the others wheezed and panted. Cody just kept running, winning on the mind. This was the one time his sweet temperament was vanished. As the sun soared across the sky, Cody blazed across the snow, sinking in on the checkpoint. When a sudden sharp turn got miscalculated, Cody could only yelp and twist as they where sent plummeting over. The snow barely broke the fall, and a sharp pain arose in his tail. Cody slowly got up after several minutes, just to see blood around his rump, and a frost covered severed tail on the other side of the sled. Cody backed away in fear, whimpering. He could feel the blood freezing upon his stump. When his human got up, he was furious, until he saw the blood. Calling in on his talkie, the man asked for an assistance chopper to come.

It took months for Cody to return to himself, and when he did, his human had become bored of him. Articles went up in the paper of a red husky, a "useless" red husky, up for sale. No buyers came. Cody was chased from his home, where he lived for several months on the streets.

One morning, Cody went searching for food. He spotted a plump rabbit, and his instinct kicked in. He chased that rabbit for what felt like hours before it ensnared him in a trap of barbed wire and mud. Cody struggled to try to free himself, as he watched the rabbit mock him. Watched it clean its ears before hopping away.

How he lost his tail:
Kodiak was a tough, but sweet, young dog. He spent his time wandering the streets, looking for food and maybe even a home. He vaguely remembered being in a home when he was a pup, but his last memory was being left in a cardboard box in the pouring rain. He'd grown since then, and he had developed "street smarts" that would save his life. He oft' wandered in the countryside of the woods, where there were less cars and more mice to keep himself fed. The motorcycle was so quiet, and poor Kody had wandered the countryside roads for so long. A motorcycle in the country was abnormal, for there were mainly trucks that carried hay bales and other farming equipment that generally passed through. Kodiak was passing through the old Mullis Lane when the motorcycle came zipping through. It swerved to miss the poor husky, and did almost just that: save the long, bushy tail that caught under the front wheel. A loud YELP! was heard as Kodiak was yanked backwards by the catch of the motorcycle. The man slid the bike to a stop, leaping off in surprise. Stunned and frightened, Kodiak alighted away towards the wooded area, despite the friendly male voice calling out after him. He was certainly NOT going near the man who yanked his tail off! He hid in the woods, which he rarely ever did, for several days, fearing the road. Not knowing his way around the wooded areas, he ventured out onto the other side for the first time in weeks. His tail, crookedly severed, had slowly begun to heal. The woods held less hunting grounds, and Kody's hunger urged him to venture out into the countryside fields once more. Slowly approaching the road, he quickly dashed across as soon as he was sure there were no hidden cars or bikes about to fly around the corner. Not watching where he was running, his mad dash landed him smack into a barb wire fence. He yelped from the sudden pain, for the wires cut him deep. It was only a few hours before a wonderful Serenity shelter rescuer found him and took him in. A thought sparked across the dog's mind: Could he have found a home?

Name: Hello. I am Mahalo, which means thank you in Hawaiin.
Gender: I am a male, of course!
How I lost my tail: I was playing ball one day, back when my boy was 16. There was a hole in the fence, and the ball slipped through. I chased it, and found myself in the street! I saw a car coming toward me. Then it all went black. Later, I was at the vet. The car ran over my tail and it had to be removed. My (old) owners returned me to the shelter.

"i'll get you, you dumb mutt! I'll get the rest of your tail off soon!" bandit ran, his nub of a new tail bleeding. he ran to someone's front lawn. the lawn had sharp wire messily around a tree. bandit heard killer baking. suddenly, he panicked. hos heart stopped beating. the bark was getting louder and more clear by the second. bandit bit the edge of the chicken wire and held it out. for some reason, the chicken were was hard to see. killer ran for bandit, but missed the chicken wire. it as raining that night, so the grass was wet. killer slid and hit the tree's stump, dying instantly. bandit turned to see killer, but got caught in the chicken wire. not by himself, but it was put on him. bandit saw killer smiling. How he lost his tail:
Rusty had always been a dog on the run, so to speak, traveling from farm to farm in search of food and shelter as a homeless dog will do. Despite the lack of socialization, he was always friendly to the people who showed him kindness, and even those who showed little to no kindness for him. Those who didn't show him kindness he knew to be wary of, however, and it wasn't normally an issue for he knew which places to avoid for he had no desire to have things thrown at him.

One day Rusty was walking along a new stretch of territory he hadn't yet discovered, and the smell of dogs was stale, meaning this was free roaming territory. All of a sudden as he was trotting joyfully along the dirt road, rust-coloured fur darker than usual due to dirt, but eyes gleaming with happiness, a car came speeding, and swerving down the road. He tried to get away as the red pick up truck came barreling at him, the rowdy, drunk males in the cab and the truck bed making hooting and hollering noises at him, the guns they were holding in shooting position for birds aimed right at him. When they saw the male husky their noises became louder, causing Rusty to cringe, the fur on his pelt rising, making his skinny frame look bigger than normal, yellowing teeth bared at the truck and its occupants.

A shot rang out through the air, and instant, searing pain shot through Rusty, located at his tail, causing the male dog to yelp in pain. Now the noises from the young, drunk boys became that of panic as they sped up their truck again attempting to flee the scene. They knew they wouldnt get in trouble somewhere in their clouded judgement from the alcohol but they were still in a hurry to leave, knowing the owners from the nearby farmhouse would be rushing out soon, as they had been in the field working.

When they got there, the poor animal was in quite a bit of pain, whimpering and trying to lick the wound clean. The farm owner scooped up Rusty, and with the help of his farmhand, they carried Rusty back to their ranch house and called the vet. Giving Rusty a clear bill of health and saying the wound would heal, he left the family with some medicine and a promise that he'd be back in a few days to check on the mutt.

As the days passed, Rusty began to slowly grow worse, as his tail would had gotten an infection, and the vet had to be called again. This time, however, the vet knew that it was either let the pup die, or amputate. The farm owner offered up the payment, and the surgery was completed without any issues. Rusty stayed with the family up until his now stubby tail was fully healed, and then he was on his way again patrolling the rural area as he had before.

Wow, this was a close one. Congrats Ardra! You've adopted Rusty!
Honorable mentions go out to Seighin and Killergramcracker <3. You guys were super close!
