With a click of the phone, Cane watched with a intense gaze as his owner and handler hung up the phone. Third time today. How strange? She sat at her desk with a stack of papers in front of her. Forms half filled out, a planner with a very packed schedule written all over it. And pedigrees, including Canes.
The male Nannuck narrowed his eyes in thought as he sat next to the human. What was she up to? Whatever it was didn't sound good, and he did hear his name being mentioned several times during the conversation. He pawed at her jeans, getting her attention. Feeling the paw on her leg, she patted him gently on the head while writing something down with the other. "They just don't know how awesome you are," She said with a small smile. She look a little sad while she mumbled to herself: "Automatic disqualification... Guess they don't love the appaloosa look as much as I do." Now Cane understood what was going on. Registration. Help and questions if the buck would ever have a carrier in showing. Cane let out a snort, not wanting to think about it. He had always dreamed of being in the show ring, his parents and siblings had long records in showing. Mainly in Conformation and Marking shows.
He was born in a litter of 3, each other pups with markings and bodies great for showing. After all their bloodlines was full of winning Nannucks, they themselves had promise! Well, except for Cane. He was the oddball of the bunch. The first to ever been known as a appaloosa. But unfortunately for him, with the showing rules appaloosas are a automatic disqualification in the ring. The people who bred him tried to sell him for his rare markings, but nobody would buy him because of the showing rules. Eventually he was bought at a discount to a family friend. They connected immediately and she loved him no matter what.
But maybe the rules will change, maybe some day I can be in one of those shows! Cane thought to himself. Always hopefully, always eager to show off. The buck glanced at his owner for a moment, and knew what to cheer the her up. He pranced out of the office, and into the kitchen. In the kitchen, was the back door, and draped near the door was his lead. A walk always did him good, and him his mind a walk would do the human some good. "Come one come on, while the day is still young!" Cane barked and whined til his owner wanted to the door. He scratched and pawed the entire time til the lead was on him and she was ready to go.
"Aren't you enthusiastic today?" Cane's owner chuckled as they walked out the door and towards a trail in the backyard. The property they lived on was large, at least that is what Cane thought. Large backyard, plenty of horse pastures, a pond, and some trails in the nearby forest. Today was a good day for a walk on the trails. The air was cool, and the weather was clear. His ears moved back and forth with the crunching of leaves under his paws. He could hear birds in the trees canopy. "Alright Cane, lets go for a run." The pace was quicked, and Cane stayed by her side. His mind began to wonder while he trotted, imagining himself in a show. Spotlight on him and his handler as the two trotted around the ring showing his form. Showing everyone what he was made of.
If only it would come true...
