They wear mask's to cover up their faces. They do this because they are scared because a monster will come when they take it off. They have no mane because they live in a very hot volcano in the middle of the sea. The cubs are born with no masks. When they are born the cub will begin to walk to find a bird to make its mask. More to come as we find it out!

What on Earth is a Phantom Doctor?!

Ah, good question, my good sir and/or madam. A Phantom Doctor is the eerie cross between an Eastern dragon and a wolf. They wear masks like Plague Doctors, which were their predecessors befor the Phantom Doctors came to roam this earth. This dangerous species was discovered by a young woman by the name of "Tsuoubaki Ohitjme," and her two colleagues, known only as "The Apothecary" and "Lyd."
Their diets consist of mostly meats, as they are carnivores. They use the sharp beak of their bird-like mask to tear their meals to shreds, and rather violently, too.
The Phantom Doctors are a dark and dastardly race, wanting nothing more than to dine on the flesh of their prey. It is quite rare that you meet a friendly PD, and if you do, watch out - either a, said Phantom Doctor is trying to trick you, or b, you're in real danger.
Luckily, these creatures live far away from human civilization, in their own society. And lucky you; you, along with a truckload of other Chicken Smoothians, have been selected to tag along with some scientists as they inspect these monstrous beasts from afar. Will you meet a PD that you could possibly befriend? Or will you befall the same fate as this Phantom Doctor's last meal?...

Where did they get the masks?

Ah, a very common question amongst the common man. You see, instead of finding it or being born with it, as most civilians would suspect, the Phantom Doctors, once they have reached a certain cornerstone in their lives, are bestowed upon with it.
Confused, much? Let me explain.
The PD's society, as I've said before, is much like our own, but with more of a...dictatorship policy than democracy. You see, Phantom Doctors have ranks quite similar to that of a kingdom. There is one ruler, the "king"; then there are the guards who protect said "king"; after that, there are the "nobles," or those pf higher power tham a "commonman" because of their wealth and stremgth; then there's the "commonman", who is, although of higher power than the "slaves," constantly frowned upon, as most of the bandots are in this social class; and finally, we have the "slaves," the lowest social class of them all. Slaves can rise to power, but it is highly unlikely that any will attempt to; I mean, the "guards" of the "king" can and will tear them to pieces, no hesitation, no questions asked.
Anyways, the "king," once a fellow Phantom Doctor of any rank reaches a cornerstone in its life, will bestow upon it a mask (made out of a bird's skull) with certain markings or accessories on it. These accessories/markings have a social rank behind them. Like, for instance, the ones with the dull feathers on their masks: those are the commonmen. The ones with the red paint on their masks and silver bells hooked around the beak are noblemen, and look! That one, the one with the blue and green markings on its mask, with bright green, red, and blue feathersvtied around the beak - that's the king! Aren't these crratures jus magnificent?

Oh, the usual; human flesh, chunks of bones - Phantom Doctors are commonly behind the cases of unsolved murders, such as the Black Dahlia Murder.

Bubonic Plague Doctors
Also known as "Black Bird Shadows".

BPDs are from Europe,mainly parts where the "Black Death"/"Black Plague",or Bubonic Plague,affected.People would wear masks like that to keep out the smell of the burning,rotting corpes.They are also seen with a mulitude of herbs to keep the smell of dead bodies away.These guys roam about,making sure the plague is gone.They're more of the trickster type.Back when the plague first broke out,they went around presenting fauls remidies to the sick and scared.They sometimes appear as a black mist,expecaly when traveling.You see,they travel by air,not land nor sea.They turn into that mist and just fly away in the wind.They have earned the nickname "Black Bird Shadows" for that trait.They eat the rats and fleas that cause Bubonic Plague,for they are immune to it.They dont...Uhh...Reproduce like normal animals.They are born whenever someone dies from the plague.They live forever,but do age.Males are known as Plague Wizards,and Females are known as Plague Wickens.They oldest ones are always seen with a black cane that they call "Plague Sticks".It was one of the faulse remidies they gave people for the illness.The youngest ones can be seen playing and singing "Ring Around The Rosie",a ritualy preformed by people to ward of the plague.Here it is.
