Story of how he became blind:
When he was very young, Vortex's forest home was attacked by a powerful Elemental Gem Fox with fire powers. Vortex's powers had never been that strong, but he couldn't stand to see anyone in his forest get hurt. So Vortex took a stand. He stepped out into the open, standing between his forest and the attacker. The attacker laughed, shooting a blast of fire at Vortex striking him in the face and knocking him backward. After the blast, Vortex found he couldn't see. For a moment, Vortex was afraid of the darkness he now found himself in, but then something amazing happened. He found he could see, not in the way he could before, but he could see the darkness. With the loss of his sight, his powers had become stronger, he could sense everything around him. The darkness was no longer his weakness, it was his strength. With new found confidence Vortex stood once again in front of the attacker, using his powers to banish the attacker from his forest home forever.
