What is LWS and how does it affect horses?
LWS (Lethal White Syndrome) is a genetic mutation that can occur when you breed a horse that is a Frame Overo. The foal is all white or almost all white and has blue eyes. The foal's syndrome prevents the colon and intestine from functioning, resulting in the baby only living for 72 hours. Since the foal is in agonizing pain, the foal is euthanized once diagnosed.
