Silver Singing Bells

by: Jendalie

Come gather round and listen now
to hear the tale of silver singing.
When Winter covers his land in white
and Moon casts all in gleaming light.

There comes the silver singing here
to shatter silence and purge all fear.
With pelt soft as new fallen snow
and breath as piercing cold as ice.

He sings his silvery call to all
and fills their hearts with cheerful delight.
The bells that dance, twinkle and chime.
The night goes still and lights come to life.
These are the signs that he is nigh.

For only those that truly believe
may catch a glimpse but like a dream.
As spirit he roams the land by night
to calm the heart and ease the mind.
Tis joy you do feel tonight
So open your heart and smile bright.

He’s waiting for someone
so the legend does say.
For another to aid his song today.
Perhaps you have destiny
beyond what you see.

So remember children on this cold night,
when Winter covers his land in white
and Moon casts her gleaming light.
There comes the silver singing here
So be of courage and have no fear.

~Journal Entry #24~

Summoning Stone- The summoning stone for this Ancient vaguely resembles a large bell made of ice. It gives off a soft glow and is cool to the touch. When shaken it will give off a small twinkling that sounds as though it's far away.

-The Ancient of Bells is known through legend and song. It is one of the more mythical dragons and his presence has only been seen by a select few. But many have heard the mysterious bells, though non have ever been able to discover where the sound is originating. Most consider this a sign of good fortune; that hearing them will bring happiness and a bountiful holiday. It is now traditional to ring bells while singing.

*Since the war began, there has only been one recent 'sighting' of his bells and it was an entire town that was witness to the event. During the night of the Great Feast in one of the main port towns of Eldemore, it had been a particularly hard year for the citizens. Many tried to keep up good spirits but this was becoming increasingly hard to do. An argument broke out in the market district between a soldier and herbal salesman. Tensions were high and soon the argument broke out into a brawl. More joined in and before long the streets were chaos. The thin thread holding civility together had been severed and the people let out all frustrations. The brawl soon became dangerous when soldiers with Drakes soon arrived and prepared to use magic to subdue the crowd by any means necessary. It was then, at the breaking point, that a twinkle began to sound. It was low at first. Only a few even took notice of it. Soon it became louder and several fights broke up to look around. But still many fought and the soldiers still prepared to take drastic measures. Suddenly, The low twinkling became a loud roar of sound. It echoed around every corner of the port town and caused the mass of the crowd to cover their ears. The deafening boom of bells only stopped when all were still and staring around in confusion. The bells went silent. After a moment one soft bell began to twinkle and something strange began to happen. A particularly large and dangerous looking soldier started to laugh. Pretty soon more light bells began to ring and others laughter joined in until the entire town were leaning on each other to catch themselves from falling over. As the laughter died down, so did the bells until the feeling of darkness and gloom was completely lifted. The reason for the argument and fighting was completely forgotten. The wealthy merchants and citizens prepared a lavish feast right there in the market for all to enjoy. Everyone was welcome whether they be poor, wealthy, soldier, citizen, or even if you were simply a visitor to the town. All sang and danced, told stories and tales of old. All differences were forgotten, if only for that one night. No one noticed the soft laughter that traveled with the wind as the night came to an end. Save for one small child who looked up into the sky and waved goodbye as the Ancient of Bells set off into the night.

-He seems to have a fondness for song. Many have reported feelings of cheer and happiness suddenly filling their hearts when music and song are heard during cold holiday nights.

-While this ancient does have a human form, we can only guess at it's appearance. The dragon is so elusive that just seeing his Ancient form is rare.

-The Ancient is know by several names: The Silver Song, Yule Bells, Hallowed Eve and Ghost of Bells.
