Story about how she got her horn:
It's more of a story of how she became a Derpycorn.
You know the story of Excalibur? And how it was planted soundly inside a huge boulder, which stubbornly held onto the sword like it was guarding it from hands unworthy to touch it's handle. Well, supposedly, the sword would slip away with ease, away from the boulder, if one of pure heart simply touched it. Like, how Arthur got in possession of the blade?
The story's not entirely correct. And by that I mean, nobody wished to say "the boulder was magicked into a Derpycorn, who ran off with Excalibur sticking mockingly out of it's mane, with knights upon knights trailing after it."
Merlin had a light heart, and a mind that wasn't focused upon the world he stepped on, but rather had adventures in space and among the stars. He was a strange man, no one could deny, and a strange man is the perfect one to wield magic, but also the worst. You see, magic runs purely on imagination, it's whatever you make of it, and Merlin had to limit himself or else his magic would go beyond his reach and out of control. So, because of this, Merlin wasn't really on the Earth most of the time, but rather exploring the depths of his mind and learning the secrets to controlling his magic.
Each day, Merlin would travel in the villages near the castle, to clear his mind from any stray thoughts still tempting his mind. There was always the urges, the "create me urges", but the incidents where he did create something was the voice of reason. Goose that laid gold eggs, magic beans that grew towering roots, and other such ridiculous inventions that only caused trouble and inconvenience. But seeing the sun high above the Earth, and the daily sounds of clanking tools and clopping hooves among the whispering wind was enough to brush away any unwanted concepts.
Most of the noise that filled one village came from a crowd of line persons, shouting impatiently for their turn.
"Get out of the way, you already tried that!"
"Oi, I'm not giving up yet, I swear it's budgin'!"
"Give up kid, you're never going ta pull that sword out from the stone."
"That's right, because I will! I've known this all my life, I am the true king!"
"You haf ta be dreamin', because I'm the true king!"
The squabbling was muted, it didn't have a chance to be registered by Merlin, because he was memorized by the stone with Excalibur peaking out from it. Just a shining sliver of the blade was visible, the rest hidden away with care by the boulder standing proudly among the crowd of persons lustful to have the sword in their possession. The sword had stolen Merlin's fascinated, and his easily distracted mind had started to formulate a string of thoughts.
"Just who is the real true king?", Merlin wondered in his mind, now completely disconnected with the rest of the world, thinking only of the blade as if the blade was the only thing in the world.
"What will happen when the blade is finally pulled out from the stone?
What if I don't even live to watch someone carry Excalibur in their hands?"
What ifs, maybes, could be's and other such hypotheticals all echoed in his mind until a strange thought crossed his mind. A thought childish and trivial, completely irrelevant and absurd made bounced in his head.
"That sword is perched on the rock's head like it's some sort of unicorn. How silly."
As that final thought regarding the boulder and it's possession passed away, Merlin realized that he had been standing there for quite some time and turned away, wanting to continue his walk. As he did, an odd, out of place silent descended upon the village. All of the meaningless shouts and vain competition for Excalibur suddenly died out, and was replaced by gasps of disbelief. Merlin frozen in place, realizing that he had made another terrible mistake.
"WHAT IN THE BLOODY H-"
"Where is Excalibur?"
"It's in that stupid beast's mane! After it!"
A deafening roar, so great and thundering the world shook with fear, erupted as Merlin took a pained peak over his shoulder. A lavender blur shot past, sending him to the ground. A mob of thundering feet stepped over the stunned wizard, as Merlin begged everyone to stop.
"Please, I can fix this!"
But his voice was trampled by the angered screams and unstoppable train of feet that flatted everything in their path. Chaos spread to over the town, as flames, like vile vultures, sat on the rooftops of the several houses with a firey gaze. Blankets of thick smoke, floating about like earthbound spirits, obscured the sun. Like glowing snakes, the wavering light of the torches carried by the flailing arms of the angry villages slithered over their heads.
"Mommy, look, a Derpycorn!"
"Arthur, get back here this instant!"
As the boy ran after the crowd of knights and disgruntled people, Merlin was left alone in the village with one thought on his mind.
"I can't believe I did that again."
Edit: Wait, it has a crystal horn?
