Quin, a female

Story about this particular pet:
The sun was setting and all creatures were going to bed for the night, the wind howled and the sea churned; a storm was brewing. Quin sat nestled up in her nest with her favourite rock next to her. Her neighbour, a seagull, was still out looking for his dinner. She stole her his soft furry thing that he kept in his nest and nestled it around the rock. She then heard a squawk and was thrown out of her nest by the seagull, named Leo. She was knocked out cold and the last thing she could remember were my hands picking her up.

I brought her to my house that was just around the corner and laid her in my cousins cot that had gone unused for years. The poor bird was in shock and i kept her for a week. She had no serious injuries and I really came to love her. At the end of the week I chose to go put her back where i found her, the tree. I was walking down the road with Quin (what I had named her) on my shoulder. People kept giving me odd looks but we ignored them. When I finally saw her tree all that was left was a burnt stump. The tree had been struck by lightning earlier this morning and the rest had been cleared away by emergency services. Quin hopped of me and hobbled over to a rock with my old slipper that I had lost ages ago on it. She seemed to like the things but didn't want to be parted from me so, I took her home with me.

She has lived with me for what feels like forever now and I don't know what I'd do without her.

Story about this particular pet:
Four, that's the number of egg she lay on, the number of children she must protect with all her might. Aspen looked through the parted grass leaves from her nest and there it was, the beast that left her orphaned so long ago. This was not the fate she wanted her young to face. The beast lifted its nose, sniffing the forest air. It stepped forward the dry leaves crunched underneath its giant paws. Closer and closer it came. Aspen held her breath waiting for it to follow the scent of another unlucky creature but nothing of the sort happened. In fact the beast only crept closer to her nest. Her tiny heart beat so fast she thought it would burst from her chest. She stared at the beast as its hot breath became steam in the crisp, cool fall air. Then it looked directly at her, its glare pierced into her very soul. Within a split second the beast leap toward her; she couldn’t run, she couldn’t fly for she must stand by her unborn children. Without a second thought she leapt forward scratching the beast’s eyes with her sharp talons while quickly beating her small but strong wings. Utterly surprised, the beast hesitated as the small creature sprang from the undergrowth and was soon blinded with the many wounds inflicted on its eyes. Aspen kept fighting until the beast turned and ran faster than it ever had before, hopefully never to come back but even if it did Aspen would still be there, waiting.
