Username:: puddssoul
Name:: Full October Moon (Oliver for short)
Age:: About three years
Gender:: Male
Personality::Serene, he talks in whispers and rarely appears to be angry or sorrowful, just some calm shade of in-between. He holds grudges extremely well, although you'd never guess it. He's a thoughtful type who prefers things like debates and reading to physical competitions with the other chubs. In fact, if you let him, he'd probably spend all of his days inside burrowed under a blanket with a stack of books beside him and a highlighter to mark his favorite parts of the book. He doesn't make friends easily due to the fact that he is quite a wallflower, and doesn't enjoy exerting himself to try at anything, and often chubs don't like him because they think he's shrugging them off, when really, he's just eager to get back to his books. Due to reading so much, he's a very intelligent chub, and has spent his life trying to work out a way for chubs to communicate with humans -- for now, all he's managed is some odd sort of tapping with their hooves that's very similar to morse code. As for the books, he snatched one off of his owner's bookshelf and she got the idea.
Story/ Poem::Poem:
His mane gleams like the round of the moon
His eyes shimmer well into the evening gloom
Like a peice of the sky, fallen from the sky,
How could you simply pass him by?
His wings lift him high into the blue abyss
And all the other chubs find something just a little amiss
When he simply disappears into that deep, inky night,
He gives them all a rather Halloween-like fright!
Some say he is just phantom, just a little ghost
That is, the ones besides the ones he loves the most,
They know he's not just some perfect hologram
And for them, he'd do anything he possibly can!
Oliver, the glowing stallion of the fall night sky
Waiting, hoping, that life won't just pass him by
Looking for an owner among all the humans tonight
Wishing that he could be the one that guides them, their light...
For a life without a companion is so empty
How could anyone be able to not see
How his eyes fill with tears while he walks by himself
Not knowing his true wealth.
He needs someone to love him as he truly should be loved
Like the thing he is, the precious gift from above,
To treasure him and bring him amongst those of his own
To keep him up high and keep him from getting too low.
For what could be sweeter than a human and her handsome chub
So she could bury him in comfort and love?
Together they'd spend all the days,
Anastasia lost in a happy haze...

Story:
Oliver wandered around listlessly, the night sky an inky, beautiful velvet-looking, neverending abyss above him. The stars twinkled as though they were greeting a fallen brother, and he turned up his head and whinnied back to it as a star shot across the sky, a beautiful streak of ivory. "On nights like this," He whispered sorrowfully to himself, his eyes welling up with tears, "I wish I had someone to share all this beauty with." A wind whispered past, ruffling his mane in a comforting way, and he sniffled, laughing as he shook his head. "I sound so pathetic." He whimpered, keeping his head low and dragging his hooves along forlornly, like a lost puppy.
On the other side of the pasture, a small mare with a pink-checkered coat was dragging herself around just as sadly. She shuffled her hooves and sighed. "None of these ponies here get me." She whined unhappily. "I wish I had someone who could understand that I'm different."
The two of them wandered around while the other chubs inside slumbered securely, tangled up with families and mates, warm on their beds of hay. As Oliver began to meander back toward the stables, he nearly tripped over a sweet-looking little chub, who cried out with slight alarm as he stumbled so he wouldn't trip over her. "I'm so sorry!" He almost bellowed, whimpering.
"It's okay, I'm okay." The female assured him, then realized she didn't know him. "Hey, I'm Shay. I haven't seen you around lately...,"
"Oh, I don't live here." Oliver blushed bright red, knowing he didn't belong. "Sorry. I was just... passing through. I was going to grab an apple off the tree and be gone." He turned to leave with a rather graceful swish of his tail, his eyes dull.
"Oh, you don't have to do that!" Shay dashed after him, gently tapping him on the shoulder, eyes looking concerned. "I'm sorry if I scared you -- every chub is welcome here!" Her eyes lit up, and she grinned a little mischeviously, "Hey -- I have an idea that will be a lot of fun, and might even get you a good home where you can stay here all the time. You in?" She gazed at him, bright, dancing eyes daring him to agree to whatever she had planned for him.
"I guess so...," He mumbled, wanting to stay but not really wanting to admit it.
"Come on, then!" Shay dashed off around the side of the stables, and he followed her, quite swift on his hooves for a short-legged chub. They stopped in front of an open window. Through the white curtains billowing through, Oliver saw that the rather small, snug stall had been altered to fit a human. In a small cot, a slender human girl slept, her light brown hair spilling over her pillow like a halo. She breathed deeply in and out, not even stirring at the noise of them galloping up. "That's Anastasia -- my owner." Shay whispered, her breath coming out in little white puffs.
"Okay?" Oliver looked at the slumbering human, not sure what he was supposed to be doing. He was surprised the girl wasn't freezing, what with the window open and only a single pale blue sheet covering her. The wind was quite bitter, even for him, making him shudder once in a while.
"We're going to pull a little trick on her." Shay glanced around slyly, then nodded to the window, "Here, close that, won't you?" Oliver nodded, not wanting to wake her. He tugged on the latch and swung it securely shut, flinching a little when the wooden frame slammed loudly shut, but the human inside just muttered something over her breath, rolled over, and fell back asleep just as deeply as before.
"Now follow me." Once again, Oliver dashed after her as she galloped to the other side of the stables and nudged open a huge pair of wooden double doors into the stables. In some of the stalls, he could see young mares and foals slumbering. There was only one other male, he noted a bit sullenly. A bright, flashy rainbow male, who was sure to make him look boring in comparison. His bright yellow little wings were just the sort of thing to attract a mate! Oliver glanced at his own blank white wings and sighed softly. "Well, come on, then!" He hadn't noticed that Shay had already made it to the end of the hallway, and he blushed when he trotted over to her, keeping his head low.
They trotted through the corners and bends of the hallway until they were in front of what was perhaps the only open stall door in the entire stables. The human girl's room, he realized after a moment of peering unsurely into the shadows. Sparsely decorated, there were pictures of her with all of the chubs posted up on the walls, even with Shay, who stood next to him. "You know...," He whispered, "I never told you my name. I'm Oliver."
"Not a big deal -- but it's nice to meet you, Oliver," Shay retorted rather tartly, with a wink and another mischevious grin. Butterflies fluttered in his stomach when he thought of what this rather odd little female could have in mind.
"Here's my plan: you sneak in and stand right next to Anastasia's bed, and then I'll start bellowing, she'll see you standing there and totally freak out." Shay giggled softly. "Awesome plan, right? I'm sure she'll be as charmed with you as she was with everyone else here and want to keep you just as soon as I explain that you don't have a home, and she'll be so happy with her new chub, she'll forget we pulled a prank on her in the first place. It's the most perfect plan ever!" She stomped her hooves lightly, but with obvious glee sparkling in her eyes, and her tail flicked as she giggled again.
"What...?" Oliver stared at her. "Why don't you just ask her if she would let me stay here?"
"Where's the fun in that?!" Shay stared back at him, as though he were crazy. "Come on, I've got to get SOMETHING out of this."
"Fine." Oliver shrugged. He wasn't crazy about the plan either way, he personally didn't think this little human would take on another burden just because he asked nicely, but it was worth a shot, right? The worst she could say was no. "Let's get this over with." He added, sighing again. Shay prodded him.
"Straighten up, soldier. Come on, it'll be fun!" She insisted in a sharp whisper.
Oliver flashed her a large fake smile, and she giggled even more loudly. He had to admit it was a rather charming sound. Slowly, he crept into the stall, managing to squeeze himself into the small space between the wall and the edge of the girl's bed. He peeked around the doorframe and saw Shay standing there, waiting anxiously with wide eyes. As soon as she saw him, she smiled brilliantly and then let out an ear-peircing, blood-curdling shriek that made him jump. "Shay!" The girl bolted upright in her bed and stared immediately out into the hallway. Seeing her chub fine, her expression changed to one of confusion.
"Awww, it didn't even work! She didn't even see you!" Shay whimpered, stomping her hooves unhappily and tossing her mane, her braid swinging.
"It's fine -- " But as soon as he answered her, the girl heard his loud, low voice next to her, and jumped, letting out a soft, girlish squeak. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" He bellowed, scooting back out of his little space, but by then, the girl had calmed down, realizing he was only another chub. She grinned at him cautiously.
"Hey there, handsome." Anastasia said quietly.
"See? She likes you already." Shay gently nudged him toward her when he tried to back out of the stall. "Don't be shy now."
"You wanna come stay with me, pretty boy?" Anastasia crooned, offering up a stray baby carrot from her bedside table. Even she wasn't sure how it had gotten there, but it seemed good enough. Oliver snuck up to her and gingerly took it from her pale fingers, munching it down. It didn't feel too bad when she started to stroke his mane, and he nickered softly, "I'll take that as a yes." She whispered, hugging him. Looking into the soft scene, Shay giggled and clapped her hooves with delight. The handsome chub was staying!
And Oliver? Oliver had never been happier.
