Name: SunlightSong
Pet Name: Reversed Tiger {given name} Flitter {introduces herself as}
Pet Gender: female
Personality:
This kitkin has a shy nature, quick to fly away. If she could help it, she won't interact with anyone but she will, if she thinks she should. Her distrusting, shy nature hides her from the world, as every time a kitkin or human comes close, she retreats, allowing only quick glances, often misinterpreted as monarch butterflies.
Once, she migrated with the monarchs, blending in very well, and feeling at home. The only thing that sad thing was, when the migration was over, many of her friends had gone... forever. She had seen a lot during the journey and loved it, but she didn't really join again, finding contentment and peace in a wide meadow.
She tends to think fast and over analyse afterwards, but otherwise, she follows her instincts. Her senses are quick and she is almost always alert, even if she looks as if she is lost in a dream world, fluttering around... looking ever so careless. She is passive and would let most other people get their way but, if need be, she will never give up without a fight.
Deep within her is a fire, burning bright. Though she likes to play things cool, she could have this fiery nature that almost totally contradicts her usual self. This part of her rarely surfaces, but it will if necessary.
Flitter has a stronger personality than anyone would ever expect from a fragile-looking butterfly. Based on my description, it may not seem so, but, in truth, she is. Her strength is in her control. She can control herself but she can also release that fire. In truth, she wants to be free from the fire, since it makes her do strange things... that she really doesn't like. She doesn't like going against others and she basically wants to live a life of freedom, freedom from judgement and freedom to... fly.
Short Story:
Flitter was not born as a butterfly. When she was born, she was normal, with dark fur and orange stripes. Her parents were delighted and she was given the name "Reversed Tiger". She was true to her name ever since the beginning. She did very little out of the ordinary and wasn't fierce at all. She was sweet and nice and fuzzy. There was only one thing different. She ate a lot. A LOT, a lot. She was also extremely skilled in finding food. Even during a time of scarcity she found enough to eat for most of her flurry, and so fast that no one discovered that it was Reversed herself who found it. Otherwise, she was ignored, dismissed as a totally normal kitkin.
In truth, there was a strange battle within her. She struggled to go with everyone else even if she knew that there was something else going on. She usually blamed her appetite on being tired out by this, but really, she was storing up energy, just like the little caterpillars she was so fond of watching. Sometimes she would feel trapped by rules and all those other things. She felt... afraid of being different, and she didn't like it. She had to get out of this box.
That was the day everything changed. She let herself go. She went to every whim and fancy she had. It seemed as if she had gone crazy at times. She began breaking the conventional, getting involved, doing things she never did before. What she didn't know was that she had set her fire loose.
That moment was the single most horrible moment in her life. She was there, standing still. She did not know what she had done. She had eaten everything. That would've been fine, only it was almost winter. Her parents were staring at her in disbelief. Most of them were hoping that someone would start looking for more, but everyone was just standing there. There was nothing left. Everyone knew. Her parents took her to their burrow.
"I-I-I'm s-s-sorry..."
"There isn't much to be sorry about, little one."
"B-b-but... w-what will h-h-happen n-now?"
"I... the snow will fall."
The first snow fell that night. It was supposed to be a time for eating and storing food up for the next few months... but everyone was sadly scavenging for anything in the wood. Flitter herself was afraid. She just was. She didn't want to help. She felt as if, if she did, she'd just eat everything. That night, she decided to leave. She was a yearling after all, right? Well, almost a yearling...
She began to think of her family. What could they possibly do? There won't be any food for the winter... because of... her. She decided to look for food. Needless to say, her luck with food hasn't failed her. She piled up what she found and left, simply left.
Winter was harsh that year and the flurry wasn't able to find her. She just move along until she decided she couldn't anymore and sought shelter in a tree. She climbed up and covered herself, nice and warm until she fell asleep...
When spring came...
you know what happens next.
