Day 3 Prompt
featuring Gabe, Amelie and Helios

dont rely on anyone ; gabes perspective
It was a terrible occurrence. Night had recently fallen, and the trio
were ready to settle down for the night. Not that they were tired -
it's just that they thought it'd be better to travel during the day. Gabe's
stomach growled, like the various monsters they'd faced on their way
here - that stuff was unimaginable.

And so, they dug their paws into the confines of the two bags they had -
huge bags at that. Large rucksacks, they came in a camo pattern,
because Helios claimed it'd 'camouflage the cargo'. That guy was weird.
The camo pattern was riddled with neon colours afterall, if anything,
it'd be more useful as bait. Unable to feel the tops of any cans, or any
bags of the sort which may contain food, Gabe emptied out the bag. But
all that fell out was weapons. Thousands of weapons just tumbled out onto
the floor, making an extremely loud clatter.

Gabe's face scrunched up in anger as he turned to face the person he always
held responsible for everything - Helios. "Where's the food?" He demanded,
tone calm, but gristly at the same time. He stood above the smaller kalon,
clearly enraged at the prospect that they had no food - why did he rely on
Helios, of all people? He should've relied on Amelie instead - no, that's also
a bad idea. She wouldn't have cared what she'd thrown in, after all, she's
only out here because she has to be.

Gabe thought this mission would've been a good break - but perhaps not. The
stress of having no food had dampened his spirits, not that the entire party
was enthusiastic to begin with, anyway. Taking his paw, he shuffled the weapons
aside, looking for a can - any food item. Nothing. His search came up blank as
he slammed his foot down into the floor in frustration. "Helios..." He growled,
his tone picking up as he finished growling out his colleges name.

Helios let out a nervous chuckle, giving off a fanged grin as he backed off a
little. Amelie was laid in a tree above the two. How had she gotten up there?
Who knew, but she seemed vaguely amused by the two arguing. "Oh, do lighten
up you two." Her expression remained emotionless, but her tone was laced with
a little menace. Helios glanced up at Amelie, and then back at Gabe. "You said
pack what we needed," The firey colored kalon responded - and he did have a
    point.

"And we needed weapons." He grinned, his nervousness disappearing as he faced
Gabe directly. "It'd be knife if you thanked me," He laughed at his own pun,
but his humor was completely not shared by the other two in the party.
He moved back and sat down, admitting his defeat.

"We'll have to build a shelter from knives then," Helios suggested, letting out a
    nervous laugh.

    "We can eat metal, right?"

into the shadows. His fur is soft and whispy,

moment. He has glowing red eyes, and
    appears to be extremely sinister"

    Amelie Lacroix - Widowmaker
    female - bored, unamused
    health - 100 / 100

She has glowing red eyes and a darker blue
hair colour. She's quite tall, and is unimpressed
most of the time, as well as annoyed. Probably
    hates Helios"

    Helios - ??? - classified
male - young - nervous, amused
    health - 99 / 100 - "i need healing"

day 3 prompt.

iii. lost and found
nisha, aria

‘Where is it?’

Anxious muttering rises from the clearing, mingling with the birdsong in the forest air. A kalon sits on the ground; surrounding her like the radius of a bomb blast are what appear to be the contents of an entire village. Forks to sleeping bags, cooking pots to books, everything is there – except for what she needs.

It’s nowhere to be found.

‘It has to be here somewhere…’ Her voice rises an octave as she frantically scans the explosion around her, her eyes checking and double-checking and triple-checking every square inch of space. But the item refuses to show up.

She’s just about ready to add her screams to the melting pot of forest noise when her partner enters the clearing, carrying a bundle of firewood. The other kalon pauses on the edge of the disaster zone, eyeing her warily.

‘Aria, are you okay?’ The kalon asks. Slowly, hesitantly- as if speaking to a small, frightened and slightly crazy animal.

‘I’m fine! I’m good, I’m great, I’m absolutely perfect.’ Aria says shrilly. Above her, a few startled birds flutter off into the clouds.

The other kalon winces. ‘Sure...’

‘Trust me! I’m okay! Everything’s going fine!’

Her partner quirks an eyebrow. Aria knows her game is almost up.

‘I’ve just…’ -she fishes for an excuse- ’lost… my shoe! Yeah, my shoe.’ Aria nods vigorously. Too vigorously.

Nisha looks pointedly at the sandals currently strapped on to Aria’s feet.

‘My… my other shoe!’ More nodding.

Nisha begins to look slightly concerned. ‘O-kay.’ She drops the wood at the edge of the clearing and slowly backs away. ‘I’m just gonna go get some water.’

She’s gone quicker than the birds were.

‘Yes! Get water! Get lots of water!’ Aria calls out after her. She hears footsteps increasing their pace, hurrying away. She exhales a sigh. That was close.

She’s avoided the problem. But she hasn’t fixed it.

There’s only one option left.

Improvise.

---

‘What is that?’ Nisha yelps, almost dropping the bucket she’s carrying. The remaining birds fly away in a flurry of feathers and squawks.

The clearing has transformed from a bombsite to a campground reminiscent of a child’s set of toys. There is a tent, clean and crisp, pegged up in the corner. A fire blazes merrily in the center, leaping and snapping like an excited puppy. Everything else is arranged neatly around it: cooking utensils in a line, blankets rolled up beside the tent, all sorts of odds and ends that Aria had somehow managed to bring from the town.

But that isn’t what Nisha’s worried about.

It’s the thing in front of the fire that’s caught her eye. It’s vaguely animal-shaped, and seems to also have the anatomy of a snowman: there’s a dirt body underneath a dirt head, four short and stubby sticks that serve as crude paws, two leaves stuck on top of the creature – were they ears? – and rocks jammed haphazardly on to the head, presumably for eyes.

‘Oh, this?’ Aria, seated cross-legged next to the thing, lets out a giggle. A horror-movie, little-girl-murderer giggle.

‘Is that…’ Nisha squints. Tilts her head. ‘…supposed to be… a teddy bear?’

‘Yes!’ Aria claps her hands.

‘My teddy bear?’

Aria returns to the energetic nods.

Nisha is silent.

As the silence drags on, Aria’s smile slowly fades. Her face crumples up. She knows; she knows that it hasn’t worked. If she’s honest with herself, she knew from the beginning that it wouldn’t work.

But it was nice to pretend.

‘Okay, okay.’ Aria squeezes her eyes shut. Opens them. Nisha’s looking at her now- her own face still as expressionless as ever. ‘You know when I said I’d lost my shoe? Well, I may have kinda lied.’

‘Oh, really?’ Nisha’s voice oozes sarcasm. Aria ignores her.

She ploughs on. ‘But I did lose something. And I tried to find it, I really did- you saw me, right? I went through everything.’ She laughs humorlessly. ‘Everything! It wasn’t there, though. I think… I think we must have left it back at the village.’

‘Left what?’ Nisha’s almost scared to ask.

Aria’s worried eyes meet hers. ‘Yourteddybear.’

Nisha stares. ‘We left… my teddy bear?’ she repeats dumbly.

Aria presses her lips together. Nods.

Nisha still stares. ‘My teddy bear?’ she repeats again.

Aria nods again.

The ghost of a smile appears on Nisha’s face. Aria blinks. Am I hallucinating?

‘You tore the clearing apart… for my teddy bear?’ Nisha’s smile grew wider.

Aria is flustered. ‘Well… you did tell me to bring it and that is was a vital member of our team and I know you were probably kidding but I didn’t want to take a chance and now it’s gone and-‘

‘Aria.’ Nisha cuts her off, grinning. Aria stares at her, wide-eyed. ‘It’s just a teddy bear.’

‘Yes, but-‘

‘It’s. A. Teddy. Bear.’

‘I know, but I-‘

‘It’s a teddy bear!’

‘I know!’ Their voices have risen to a scream.

‘We can survive without it!’

‘I know!’

‘We’ll be fine!’

‘I know!’

‘You’re such an idiot!’

‘I know!’

Nisha’s still grinning widely, and even as Aria sees this a smile finds its way onto her own face. It’s a tired smile, a relieved smile. It’s the smile of a person who’s been wandering around a maze and only just realized that the walls are made of paper.

The friends smile – happily, stupidly – at each other.

And then they laugh.

They laugh, and the sound fills the forest, weaving through the tree trunks and spiraling up to the heavens. Above them, one by one, the birds return to the treetops. And as the laughter continues, the birds open their beaks and sing.

The heroes know that this moment won’t last. They know their quest still looms, tall and dark, ahead of them. They know that it will be hard, and frustrating, and painful, and that this, this one moment, might be the most fun they have in a long, long while.

But sometimes, it’s nice to pretend.

998 words.

Day 3 Prompt
Starring Zachary "Ziggy" and Samael "Sam"
(460 words)

„I told you. This was absolutely the right way.”, Samael had a wide grin on his face. Zachary knew the little one had again saved him. How often would this have to happen again? It was frustrating. For once he wanted to be the one who made a right decision. “I guess it’s time to take a rest for now. Let’s camp here for tonight.”, he said, hoping he was right now. Sam just nodded his head and yawned.

They took out their sleeping bags and prepared a bonfire. Sam light it up with his firestones. Now it was time for Ziggy to prepare a meal. He grabbed his bag and took out some of the food he stored inside. “Okay Sam, hand me the pot over. I’ll do some hotpot. Meat, potatoes, carrots and a few herbs. Does that sound good?”
“Sure, but I don’t have a pot. I thought you got it?”
“No pot? You told me what to take with me, and we have no pot? Okay then, tell me we at least have an over fire grill.”, Ziggy was quite desperate. Food was the most important for him, and now it seemed like he would have to eat his vegetables raw.
“If you don’t have one in your bags, then no, we don’t have one.” Sam was quite confused. This adult was so fixed on food, and didn’t bring cooking supplies. For the young boy it was no problem. This was an adventure. The only things needed were branches and stones. So why did Zachary look so desperate?

Ziggy was on his way to madness. How would he survive without cooking supplies? How could he forget about them? They would still starve out here. Samael watched the adult getting all crazy about not being able to cook. Then he said, “Hey Zachary. It’s not a problem. Look.” He grabbed a branch and prepared it with his dagger. Then he picked up a piece of meat, speared it and held it over the flames. He handed it over to Ziggy, to get himself his own stick. Ziggy just stared at the little boy. After a while he asked, “And what about the carrots and the potatoes?”
“Ah yes!” Sam added a few stones to the campfire. He took the potatoes and carrots and put them beneath some of the stones, so they wouldn’t get burned, but still get warm. “We can pick them up with our sticks, when they are done.”, he said.

“Nothing more to say.”, Ziggy thought, “he did it again…” The longer this journey went on, the happier he was about taking the boy with him.
“Don’t let your meat get burned!”, Sam said, and got back Zachary out of his thoughts. And again…

The three heroes settled down for the night in a small clearing. Pompeii strung up the tent, while Estrella tended to the campfire.

Dakota wandered around, seemingly distressed. On multiple occasions, she poked around in her bag before pacing again.

"Can you stop that? I'm trying to focus," Pompeii growled, throwing his arms in the air in exasperation.
"Sorry!" Dakota apologized, sitting down on a fallen tree. She made a loud sound of frustration.
"What's your problem?!" Pompeii shouted, stopping his work to stare at the pink-haired paladin.

Folding her ears back, Dakota laughed nervously. "I might have... forgotten something for our quest..." She rubbed her hand against her thigh. "Uh... something kinda super important."
"And what might that important thing be?"
    "The food!"

Pompeii's eye twitched. In the corner of his eye, he could see Estrella leaving the camp and stifling a giggle.
"Didn't I tell you to triple check everything before we left? I even made a checklist. In fact, the first thing you checked off was food."
Dakota grimaced. "Well, yes... but before we left, I got a little hungry and I took out the food... and then you started rushing us to head out. So I... forgot to repack the food. But wait!"
Before Pompeii could yell any more, Dakota pulled something from her pocket. It was a pack of fruit snacks. "I didn't forget this!"
"How are we supposed to survive off of fruit snacks for the night? There's three of us, Dakota, and only a few gummies inside one pack."

Dakota shrugged weakly and dipped her head. As the leader of their ragtag group, she had failed them. "I'm sorry," she said quietly.
Pompeii let out a sigh. "It's fine. We have no food. We just have to... look for some."

At that exact moment, Estrella came bounding back into the clearing. Her arms were full of plants and berries.
"I hope you guys didn't forget that I'm the medic, here... and also the edible plant specialist."
Dakota sucked in a breath and beamed before tackling Estrella with a hug. "You saved us!" Estrella widened her eyes in surprise before laughing.

That night, the three had quite the feast. (:

Prompt 3

Featuring: Azrael + Hera

As Hera and Azrael trudged through the dark and spooky forest, Hera couldn't help but think about how the volcano might've seen like a better idea now. This forest was cold, dense, and unknown creatures were eyeing the pair. Every little noise that was made in there made the hairs on Hera stick up and she was very tense. Azrael noticed this and couldn't help but smirk a little bit. “We could always head back to the volcano, or you could just call it quits and leave completely.” He said as he followed code behind the medic. “I know that doctors usually don't get out in these parts so if you can't handle it then it's okay.” Hera whipped her head around and glared. “I am not about to give up, angel.” He rolled his eyes as the pair walked through the seemingly endless forest. Before they knew it, night fell. This time it was Azrael who spoke with concern. “Maybe we should make a fire and a shelter to sleep in so we keep these creatures at bay. We can't see anyways Hera and my legs are sore. I don't walk this much most of the time.” Hera slowly stopped and nodded in agreement. The pair chose to make a camp by a large oak tree. Hera slowly sat down and started rummaging through her things. Azrael saw a flash of panic across her face as she started pulling her things out one by one. Her book and fire starter had gotten soaking wet whenever they went down into the sewer on a chase after those stupid gremlins. “Ohhhh no….” Hera whispered softly. At least her herbs were fine. Azrael tilted his head a little bit. “What's up?” He said as he sat down by the medic. “The fire starter got wet and the book is gone… Centuries of information, gone! I didn't bring anything to make shelter with either.” Hera sniffled a little bit, certain that they were going to die. Azrael only chuckled a bit amused though. “You don't know much about living in the woods, do you?” Hera looked up at the angel who took the stick and dried it off and quickly got them a fire going. “I-I live in a forest… I just don't use these kinda of items typically. I use modern day things. Well, besides the herbs..” Hera sat against the tree as she put her wet bag onto a branch above the fire and watched as she prayed that it would slowly dry. “What about shelter though?” Azrael had already taken off flying and left Hera alone for a few hours. Hera slowly grew very tense and tired from their long trek and as much as she hates to admit it, she liked that angel. Yes he was very difficult but he also made her feel safe. “Hey medic!” Azrael called from up in the tree. Hera slowly looked up and squinted to find Azrael’s halo. “What?” She asked confused. “How does sleeping in a large bird nest I built sound to you?” Hera looked at him bewildered for a long moment before she suddenly grinned and started laughing. She had to admit, she didn't see that one coming. “Sure!” She said in between laughs. Azrael roll his eyes as he swooped down and picked the medic up and placed her in the nest. “I also might've stolen some pillows and blankets from some leftover campsites here. We should be safe up here.” He said as he watched Hera quickly snuggle into the blanket and start to doze off. Before she did though, she looked at the angel sleepily. “Hey, angel.” She said with a yawn. He glanced over and raised an eyebrow her way. “Hm?” He tilted his head a little bit.

“I'm calling you tweety bird now.” She said with a smirk as she drifted off into slumber.
