How did they loose the leg?: About a year ago, a farmer's herding dog, not being desexed, gave birth to a litter of 5 puppies. The farmer had no use for them, so up for adoption they went. 3 of the pups went to loving homes in the area, but two didn't quite make it. Soon, a strange person came up to the farm, asking if there was any more puppies to adopt. They seemed nice enough, so the farmer gave the remaining 2 to them. Potato and his sibling, his sister, were bundled into the person's truck. They were driven to a far away farm and shoved in a shed. Then Potato and his sister were used as what is called "bait dogs". This is when people teach dogs to hunt and fight by making them attack gentle, harmless dogs and other animals. He and his sister where kept in horrific conditions for several months. The only thing that ever came from the outside was the sound of gunshots. These terrified them both. The only thing that kept them alive was the scraps that the person brung, and their bond. When dawn arrived one morning, not that they could tell, the person opened the door once more. This time he brought with him some other dogs. Potato believed his salvation was at hand. They were let out of their cage and the new dogs circled them, curious. Then the person fired in the air with his gun.

The dogs suddenly lunged and clawed at Potato and his sister. His sister was immediately brought down. Most dogs will to live would've ended the moment they couldn't hear her cries. But his only got stronger. He fought his way out. He was about to bolt out the door, when a dog sunk its jaw into his hind leg. It threw it around and actually managed to rip it completely off. The dogs were now preoccupied with their new meat, and Potato ran out that door, and ran to freedom.

Potato's wounds have now healed, but he is still deathly afraid of large metal objects that remind him of his cage, and loud noises that remind him of that fatal shot.

How did they loose the leg?: Fireworks, actually; Kaiser was a herding dog on a ranch where they always did a huge celebration at New Years. They'd lock up the animals, then set off tons of fireworks (that weren't always legal, mind you). Well, when he turned three, he managed to escape his pen and ran out, thinking the fireworks were something attacking his family and flock. He tried to attack it, but instead he ended up setting off the whole cache and got caught in it. The poor thing was covered in burns and missing patches of fur, but the worst part was a horrible hacking cough and his mangled hind legs. The farmers tried to fix him up, but it was sub-par and not proper medical work, so by the time they finally got him to a vet the leg was severely infected and had to be amputated. The farmers took him home, but Kaiser had much difficulty adjusting to the tri-pawed life, and became much more skittish and resigned. Eventually they had to bring him into the shelter because he could no longer do his job on the farm.

His fear of large metal objects comes from his long, multiple surgeries and recoveries at the vets clinic (mainly the table and kennels), and the loud noises come from the fireworks being set off.

Unfortunately Quincy lost his leg in a car accident, he was hit after escaping through a gap in the back fence. This is also where his fear of 'large metal objects' comes from as well as loud noises as he was spooked by the cars horns and engines as they sped past him.

How did they loose the leg?: Quinn had lost his leg from a small metal beam falling on his left hind leg, shattering the bone so severley, it had to be removed.

I felt like this one was probably one of the most tragic and interesting stories I've seen in a while! Holy heck! No wonder he's afraid of large metal objects and loud noises! ;v;

I also proofread the story so that there weren't any spelling or term mistakes so yup! (for a female animal, the term for being "de-sexed" is spayed ;v; )

--Also, I found it interesting that a majority had him as a hunting, guard or herding dog as I had originally had him be one XD
