Short story:
"One, two, three little pebbles..." a quiet voice sang, the sweet sound coming from a small, fluffy fox, named Saffryn. "Four, five, six little pebbles..." She continued, crossing a small creek and jumping from one rock to the next. "Seven, eight, nine little..." A shadow, nearly ten feet tall draped over the female, allowing no sunlight to warm her fur. Saffryn lifted her head, her tail tense and a frightened look on her face. "Oh! It's just a deer. Hello Mr. Deer!" She called happily, a smile painting on her face. The deer twitched it's white tail, then bounded off into the forest. "...Nine little pebbles, 10 now I'm nearly done!" Saffryn finished, landing softly on the leaf-covered earth. The autumn breeze blew around her, and she tried to take in the scent of anything familiar; specifically her brother. She trotted along, her eyes peeled and her nose twitching, for any sign of her sibling. Her tail was held high and though her paws were aching, she kept pressing forward, determined to find him. Suddenly, a scent filled her nose, and her ears pricked. She raced forward, forgetting about her sore paws and hungry stomach as she tried to find what she had been searching for. "Hey!" Saffryn cried, spotting the deer from earlier cornering her brother. "S-S-Saffryn!" He stuttered, trying to find a way out from harms reach. Running as fast as her short, little legs could carry her, Saffryn pushed off the ground, clamping her jaws tightly around the deers back leg. Tightning her grip as the deer bucked it's legs, she had given her brother enough time to escape and grab the deers other leg. Together, the siblings released their grip, and the deer went running off into the forest. "Saffryn! Oh thank you so very much!" Her brother cried, licking his sister's ear appreciatlivley. "No problem, that's what family is for!" Saffryn giggeled, playfully knocking her shoulder into his with a wide smile on her face.
