Adopt An Octopus!
Preface
You stand on the edge of the boat, perching you toes on the side, poising your self to dive into the cool ocean waters. You've been waiting all your life for this moment, but strangely a feeling of fear begins to grip you. As calming as the pale blue waters seem, dappled with sun and the colors of the coral reef under the surface just a short distance away, you just can't help but wonder what else besides the small, tropical fish could be down there. You close your eyes, a mixture of exictement and fear swirling inside you and you jump.
Water laps around your body as you surface for just one look before you will enter the relm of the deep. Making sure you diving gear is perfect, you fiddle with it a bit, then finally raise your hands abouve your head and plunge back down into the sea. Below is a mix of colors, fish that swim right past you, coral that seems to be brains, sun that makes criss crossed lines around you and on the ocean floor. You swim around a bit, exploring this wonderous place. Out of the corner of your eye, though, you see something colorful dart around behind you. Thinking it must be a fish, you put it out of your mind and swim around some more. The something brushes your leg. You whirl around in shock to see what it is, afraid it could be a really big fish.
When your eyes gaze apon the thing that has touched your leg, you smile under your diving mask. A small octopus is bobbing up and down right by your leg. You go to swim away and it follows you, swimming by your side. You smile again, and keep swimming. Eventually, though, your air supply is running out, so you look around one more time and begin the swim upward. Something brushes against your leg again, and again it's the octopus. It trys to pull you down, but as it's so small it can not. You think it wants you to stay. Gently you pick it up in your hand and swim up towards the surface. Some how you'll keep this little octopus.
