"Welcome to our wonderful little world of Skepluvias! These feathery buck-toothed raptors are here to steal your heart <3 We're still looking for staff (ISO mods, artists, and an archivist!) for when we get things rolling again but for now we are in a 'soft opening' mode where there will be small bouts of random adopts. Until then please enjoy our little community! And don't forget to mark the main page and read over our rules as well c;"

Rules - Staff - Helpful Links

Postby ShadyBro » Thu Jul 25, 2019 8:17 am

    Rules:
    - 4/20/20; You may own 15 queens, and 3 jacks. This includes pygmies and any bred rittens.
    - Sterile jacks/geldings (those that have used all ten breeding slots) do not count toward your total limit. You may have as many of these as you wish.
    - Users with a Scuffle Page listed on our Community Scuffle List are allowed four extra Skepluvias; 18 queens and 4 jacks total, with unlimited geldings.
    - Once you have reached your limit of Skepluvia, there are ways to increase that limit. You must first have a Scuffle Page listed, and then complete at least one tack prompt for every Skepluvia you own. After all your owned Skepluvias are tacked and listed on your scuffle page, you may adopt one more Skepluvia of either sex. Once that Skepluvia's tack prompt is completed and they are also listed on your scuffle page like the rest, you may adopt another one. This can be repeated as many times as you wish. Technically with this method a user may own as many Skepluvias as they want to, but only as long as all of them are listed on a Scuffle page and have completed tack prompts!
    - Users that exceed their Skepluvia limit will have extras revoked and will not be allowed to stud/nurse their current Skepluvias. If you accidentally go over your limit somehow such as unplanned twins or unexpected giftings, please contact a mod or archivist right away to re-adopt or gift your extra Skepluvias (if staff is notified ASAP this will not count as a rule break and you won't get in any trouble for it! Mistakes happen <3)
    - This is a closed species. You MAY NOT make your own without an MYO ticket or Custom ticket. Those who break this rule will be reported to ChickenSmoothie moderators for art theft and permanently/immediately banned.
    - This is a closed species. You MAY NOT breed your own offspring. Only breeding artists may design offspring for you Skepluvias. Please check our hatchery for more information on breeding.
    - Please do not mini-mod or point out archive/numbering issues. This is the job of our mods and archivist <3
    - You may however notify artists if you see an issue with the genotypes or if rarities need updating!
    - While you are welcome to post your Skepluvias on other sites, you must always link back to the main page here, and credit the original line artist as well as the design artist for each of your Skepluvias.
    - You may not sell or trade your Skepluvi if it was acquired in a free contest or purchased for CS pets/game currency. Skepluvias purchased with DA points or USD may be resold or traded, but only for the same amount or less than what you originally purchased it for.
    - You may gift an owned or newly born Skepluvi to any member of your choosing once a month.
    - You may readopt any owned or newly born Skepluvi as often as you wish, however only non-bred Skepluvi may be put up for public readoption; if your Skepluvi has already been bred even just once, then it must either be gifted to a specific member or simply kept in your scuffle forever.
    - The design and anatomy of your Skepluvi cannot be altered in any way, however you are free to add items as you wish. They also can not be drawn as differing species. For example, they are not to be drawn as quadrupeds, given teeth other than their normal bucked, changed into another adopt species/dog/human/athro, or given mutations that are not already present on the design.
    - Skepluvias are welcome to be any gender or orientation you wish! However, only pairings of DMAB (designated male at birth / jack) x DFAB (designated female at birth / queen) are viable for offspring. Gender/pronouns may be changed at any time (simply notify the artist that designed your Skepluvi to have their information edited), but the sex (jack/queen) may NOT be changed under any circumstance.
    - You may not beg to win contests, complain about currency adopts, or ask for random customs/MYOs.
    - Be kind to each other and staff. If you have a problem, please send a direct private message to either ShadyBro or an active moderator. Arguments or complaints carried out publicly will result in automatic bans.
    - Questions involving multiple concerns/thoughts should be messaged directly to a mod - do not spam the main thread! However, short simple questions that you believe may help other members may absolutely be posted publicly on the main thread, hatchery, or fanclub.
    - If you believe any of the rules posted are unclear, difficult to read/understand, or need further explaining, please feel free to let us know! Suggestions are also welcome and may be taken into account if we believe it works well for the adopt. Your insight is very much appreciated and helps make things easier for all members as we update and revise rules and species development.
    - It isn't easy to get banned here, but it can happen. Bullying, harassing staff, and especially art theft are our big three no-nos.
'Temporary bans result in a fourteen day ban from Skepluvias and all Skepluvi activity or threads. If the user does not respond appropriately or alter their behavior/actions that resulted in the temp ban, then a full ban will be issued at the discretion of the staff and or users affected. A full ban will result in having all Skepluvi owned by said user revoked and rehomed in whatever way is seen appropriate by the artists or moderators involved. Once banned, the user will no longer have any rights to the characters, storylines, art, ect created around the Skepluvi, and will be penalized if seen continuing to use the revoked Skepluvi.'
So just read and follow the rules, and be polite to staff and fellow users. And if you have any issues, just ask! We don't bite, and everyone on our staff will always be more than happy to resolve problems through kind and thorough communication <3
    - Have fun and give your Skepluvias LOTS of love! c;

    Artist Rules:
    - Artists (and other staff) are allowed three jacks and thirteen queens (all other limit increase rules apply)
    - Jacks must be rarer than queens; you may create one adoptable jack for every fifteen adoptable queens
    - You are allowed to make yourself one custom every fifteen designs you make, with a cap of five customs total
    - White pattern presets can be slightly edited or can be custom-designed, however they must follow the genetics code, and may not stray too far from the original marking preset
    - For genotypes, follow the provided genetics list for all white presets (if you are unsure, please PM ShadyBro a screenshot of your design before posting)
    - For phenotypes, just put down whatever animal you used to inspire the base coat design - this can be much more spontaneous and loosely inspired than the white markings (ie dart frog, okapi, appaloosa, rainbow lori, mackerel tabby, ect); the only unnatural Skepluvi specific marking you may use is the highlighter marking, which creates small marks of brindle/stripped type markings in a bright color overtop of the base coat design (also seen here, here), and here as examples).
    - Base coat designs must always be themed off of a real animal or set of markings - you may not create designs without a real animal to inspire it (markings from various animals can always be spliced together however, for example; 'purple tabby peacock' could be a purple base with cat tabby stripes and peacock spotting, or 'african dart frog' could be an african wild dog pattern with dart frog spots, or 'black leopard rat' could be a black rat design with leopard spotting, ect)
    - Only one pygmy may be created for every twenty or so standards; this includes those created by other artists, those created in breedings, as well as customs/MYOs [PYGMIES ARE A WORK IN PROGRESS AND NOT YET AVAILABLE - PLEASE BE PATIENT]
    - No line edits or mutations can be designed without permission, with the exception of pupil alterations in their eyes (which are highly encouraged); this rule will change later on once mutation presets are created
    - Small items can be added, but must be a removable layer, and they cannot alter the Skepluvi's anatomy (such a replacing limbs) or convey mutations (such as adding horns or hair ect) in any way - it is preferred that this be saved for special adopts or events, but it does not require specific permission
    - Contests must be judged no later than two weeks after posting; paid adopts must be updated as soon as the trade/payment is accepted
    - Paid adopts may include the currencies of C$, Pets, or CS items; this rule may change to include USD and DA Points later on; please do not overcharge for adopts; the first user to send the trade gets the adopt, not whichever trade or user you like best (keep it fair!)
    - If a payment trade is sent with an incorrect amount, it is up to the artist to either edit it or cancel it. The amount of time an artist may wait for an edited trade to be accepted or if they allow holds on their designed skepluvi is up to them. Artists have full discretion on how much to charge and what to do in editing cases - but the first user to send a correct trade is ultimately the first to be accepted, no matter what

Genetics, Anatomy, & Origin

Postby ShadyBro » Thu Jul 25, 2019 8:17 am

Scientific Name: Skepluvian Dromaeosaurids
Common Name: Skepluvias (Plural) / Skepluvi (Singular)
Pronunciation: skep - ploo - vee (singular) / skep - ploo - vee - uh - s (Plural)
Sub Names: Jacks = Males, Queens = Females, Rittens = Juveniles
Group Name: Scuffle (Generally consisting of one jack and two to five queens.)

Basic Anatomy: Bipedal (meaning they walk on two legs) with three elongated toes on back feet. Long bucked rodent teeth in the front with very short square blunt teeth in a ridge along the rest of their mouth (they do not have 'canines' or 'fangs' of any sort - purely herbivorous inspired teeth). Bristly furred bodies with softly feathered joints, tail, crest. Four hefty spikes on the tail with five small blunt spikes on their rumps. Lizard-like mouths and lips with small lizardy nostrils. Four-fingered front paws with curved talons and short partially opposable thumbs. Feathery fluttery eyelids on both sexes with males having two long eyelid feathers as well. Standard adult size is an average of seven feet tall, while the pygmy size is an average of a one foot tall. Walks and runs on back legs like an ostrich, only stands on front paws when kneeling or crouching. Body/head movements similar to that of a bird, much like most theropod dinosaurs. Bodily behaviors and socialisms more similar to that of a horse, such as in the way they stomp or throw their head or nuzzle and groom each other.

Colors/Patterns: While their base coat can be almost any color/pattern, all Skepluvias will present a form of white marking in their design themed after the natural white markings on rats and other rodent-esc creatures. The most common of these markings is hooded, the rarest of which is self (ie whiteless), though albino (fully white with red-hued eyes) and melanistic (fully black with blue-hued eyes) Skepluvias are also equally rare; albino and melanistic however are only seen on queens, and will generally only produce hooded offspring. New white markings may be added to their genetics list at any given time, and rarities may change as breedings produce new genes in varying amounts, so if you're genetics oriented keep an eye on this list for any alterations in the future!

Genetics List
Here are all the known white markings in relevance of rarity, from most common to least common. These are not actually based off of any specific natural genetics and have their own Skepluvian-based system of passing. All white markings however are loosely inspired by real rat, mouse, and rabbit patterning.

Hooded: HH (Long stripe of color along their back, as seen here.)
Variegated Hooded (Broken stripe): Hh (Long stripe of broken/spotty color along their back, as seen here.)

Bareback: BAR (Head and neck color, as seen here.)
Variegated Bareback (High white/spotted neck): Bar (As seen here.

Capped: CA (Head color.) (As seen here.)
Variegated Capped (Low white/spotted neck): Ca (As seen here.)

Berkshire: BRK (White patch on chest and all four feet, as seen here.)
Variegated Berkshire (High white): Brk (As seen here.)

Irish: IR (Small white patch on chest, as seen here.)
Variegated Irish (Low white): Ir (As seen here.)

Headspot: HED (White spot or star on forehead, as seen here.) [Can be stacked with; hooded, bareback, capped, berkshire, irish, belted, rump white, downunder, dalmatian, piebald, and roan.]
Variegated Headspot (Minimal white): Hed (As seen here.)

Blazed: BL (White wedge shaped blaze on muzzle, as seen here.) [Can be stacked with; hooded, bareback, capped, berkshire, irish, belted, rump white, downunder, dalmatian, piebald, and roan.]
Variegated Blazed (Flame/lightning/split-face): Bl (As seen here.)

Belted: BEL (White mark covering mid-section, as seen here.)
Variegated Belted (Low-white): Bel (As seen here.)

Dutch: DU (Color over face and rump only, as seen here.)
Variegated Dutch (High-white): Du (As seen here.)

Hoto: HOT (Color around eyes/feathering, as seen here.)
Variegated Hoto (High-white): Hot (As seen here.)

Rump White: RU (White covering lower half of body starting at the hips, as seen here.)
Variegated Rump White (Low-white): Ru (As seen here.)

Masked: MAS (Color over eyes in a mask pattern, as seen here.)
Variegated Masked (Smaller mask or broken/eye spot): Mas (As seen here.)

Downunder: DOW (Replicates the back pattern onto the stomach, as seen here.)
Variegated Downunder (Splotched white): Dow (As seen here.)

English Spot: ENG (Color around eyes, muzzle, and along the spine with small spotting along the back, as seen here.)
Variegated English Spot (High-white): Eng (As seen here.)

Dalmatian: DA (Spots of color along the back and sides, as seen here.)
Variegated Dalmation (High white): Da (As seen here.)

Piebald: PIE (Splotched spotting over entire body, as seen here.)
Variegated Piebald (Low-white): Pie (As seen here.)

Roan: ROA (Faded white ticking overtop base coat color with higher white along spine & belly, as seen here.) [Can be stacked with all other markings.]
Variegated Roan (Minimal white/white ticking): Roa (As seen here.)

Husky: HU (High white undermarks with a blaze and brows, as seen here.)
Variegated Husky (Low white): Hu (As see here.)

Harlequin: HAR (No Premade Marking Layer - White on one half of body, colored on other half, perfectly split, as seen here.)
Variegated Harlequin (Splotchy split-line - No Premade Marking Layer): Har (As seen here.)

Self: SE (Also called a whiteless. Total lack of white patterning.)
Variegated Self (Also appears whiteless, but is a gene bomb - has the chance of throwing any sort of white pattern or mix thereof): Se

Albino (Queens only - solid white coat, eyes must be a warm color hue with lighter non-black pupils or pupiless): Alb
Melanistic (Queens only - solid black coat, eyes must be a cool color hue with lighter non-black pupils or pupiless): Mel

Important Note: Our genetics formula is unique to Skepluvias, and does not work the same as normal genetics. The equation works as follows, allowing patterns to move down the list and up in rarity as the generations evolve.
AA x AA = Aa, AA x Aa = Aa, Aa x Aa = aa, aa x aa = BB
So, if breeding for a bareback, just breed two recessive variegated hoodeds (hh x hh = BAR). If breeding for a capped, breed two recessive variegated barebacks (bar x bar = CA). And so on!
When two patterns from two spots on the list are mixed, the pattern will be randomly generated from within the list. For example, if a hooded HH is bred to a Variegated Berkshire Brk, then there's the chance of getting Hh, hh, BAR, Bar, bar, CA, Ca, ca, BRK, Brk, or brk. The farther apart the rarities of the two parents, the wider the chance of getting a completely different and random marking!
(Remember - this is not realistic to how genetics actually work, so any genetic knowledge should go out the window with these guys. This is just a really weird random Skepluvias specific system to keep white patterns rolling through the rarity list and to help randomize offspring/lineage on a much wider spectrum.)

Origin & History
Work In Progress
- Originally preyed upon humans in the early paleolithic era
- Began to use humans as food-bringers and protectors in exchange for not eating them
- Humans became more intelligent, Skeplivias became lazier and more domesticated, transferring to vegan diets
- Intelligence became less important as humans cared for them, and they began to shrink in size to become more easily riden and controlled
- Pygmies began to pop up and humans found them to be great pets - then starting breeding them for tameness, producing ultra tame Skepluvias
- Now they're completely domestic, with lower IQs and dorky personalities, making them perfect family pets that are eager to please and easy to train and ride
- Humans and Skepluvi alike do not forget their origins however; all are very aware that harming a Skepluvi (or harming any living creature in front of a skepluvi) means the bad human becomes dinner

Behavior & Basic Species Notes

Postby ShadyBro » Thu Jul 25, 2019 8:17 am

Average Behavior: Naturally goofy and clumsy creatures, Skepluvias are quite tame and gentle with people, making them ideal pets. They are often ridden by their human counterparts for the Skepluvi's own entertainment, baring laid-back westernized tack. They are easily excitable and highly sociable, with an insatiable eagerness to please.

Gender Expression: While males may normally be calmer than females, these creatures are quite socially intelligent, granting them a fuller grasp of gender expression and therefore a wide variance of behavioral differences. Often the personality traits of a Skepluvi will align with their preferred gender, such as a Jack who seems more energetic and wild would express as female or a Queen who is more parentally inclined and calm would present as male. Non-binary genders may present in other ways, and are very common.

Non-Aggression Rule: Almost all Skepluvi will have a core personality that expresses empathy and light-heartedness. They naturally have a deep respect for other living things, from other Skepluvias to even the tiniest bug, and are extremely protective of other creatures if need be. Their spiked tails make great protective and defensive weapons, (though they are usually used for food preparation and communication as violence is rarely needed). As such, their behavior does not present in aggressive or violent tendencies with the exception of very special cases.
'Weapenry' Uses: The curved spikes on their tails work perfectly for scraping off cactus spines, similar to how they use their buck teeth, or they can use them to pluck or bash fruits from high branches. The vibrations a large adult Skepluvi creates from smacking their tail spikes into the sand can be detected by other Skepluvi for miles around, allowing them to communicate between other scuffles as well as members of their own during long foraging outings. Their sharp claws are perfect for peeling spiny cacti and their long back-feet talons give them better grips on uneven ground such as loose sand or steep rocks. The spikes on their rumps protect their delicate hips when carrying heavy loads, such as a human saddle or a collected bale of cacti. None of the 'dangerous' parts of their anatomy are linked to any form of aggression or fighting, and are strictly used for defensive or practical reasons.

Human Relations: Skepluvias often view their human counterparts in one of two ways; as a vulnerable small creature that needs parental care, or as an equal that they interact with the same as they would with other Skepluvias. The only injuries their caretakers receive are usually accidental - clumsy tail wagging, excitable nuzzling, rough grooming, playful headbutting, ect. In general, they are quite lovable creatures with their humans, as long as said human is also a true hearted character. Humans that harm or interact poorly with each other, other animals (this includes eating their dead flesh), or other Skepluvias, should be quite fearful of any Skepluvi that witnesses their actions. Despite their natural oathe to peace, aggressive humans will be 'put down' by any skepluvi that sees extremely negative behavior. This is the one rare case in which a Skepluvi may use their defensive features to do harm.
Skepluvias Relations: Skepluvias are very social creatures, and as such they require the company of other Skepluvias. Human interaction fills some social needs, but not all. It is considered quite cruel to ever keep a Skepluvi alone, no matter their behavioral issues or negative relationship with the other spepluvias. Skepluvias form tight knit groups called 'scuffles', and each scuffle has a hierarchical structure that fulfills the social desires of each individual. They do not fight act aggressively toward one another; rather, they communicate openly and constantly through vocal sounds, tail tapping, and body movement. Those that don't get along may 'argue' with each other through this form of speech, but physical altercations are extremely rare. In positive interactions, Skepluvias will show their affection for one another through grooming or preening like birds, nuzzling each other with their noses and heads like cats, neck wrapping like horses, and even hand holding like otters.
Other-Species Relations: Due to their natural habit of nurturing and protecting other animals, Skepluvias are quite fond of other species. Because of their own vegan preferences, they tend to be especially fond of herbivorous animals over carnivores, but they hold a respect for all living creatures regardless of species. Skepluvias enjoy watching and socializing with native wildlife as well as domestic pets, and seem happiest in homes that include both. It has even been recorded that Skepluvias will keep domestic animals as 'pets', treating them as equals while also feeding, cleaning, and playing with them the same way a kind-natured human would do with their own domestic creatures.

Wild VS Domestic: Though wild skepluvias are not the usual sight, they do indeed exist. Wild skepluvias behave similarly to domestics, with the exception of some scuffles being less interested in socialization with humans or other species. They care for each other and build strong relationships within their scuffle, while protecting and maintaining a marked off territory from other scuffles. Wild skepluvias are also usually more in-tune with a sort of 'mother earth' mentality, making them partial to 'taking down' humans who seek to harm the land within their territory, such as hunters, poachers, fishers, loggers, miners, farmers, ect. Hunters and fishers are the most common targets, and are seen by wild skepluvias as feral or rabid creatures that need to be 'put down' for the safety of the earth. In comparison, domestic skepluvias are generally lazier and more excitable about interacting with new people, and may be seen as slightly more 'naive', often forgetting any sense of safety or caution in possibly dangerous situations. Domestics are equally far easier to train to tacking and riding, need very little work when integrating into new scuffles, and are much more likely to bond to their human caretaker's right away. Although wild skepluvias can be tamed to align their behavior with that of a domestic, this can only be achieved if and when they make the choice to bond to a human caretaker. Wild skepluvias that are caught against their will and 'broken' will always act with a wild mindset, and will often carry a heavy grudge and lack of trust in humankind.

Basic Species Notes:
- Bipedal, meaning they walk on two legs (like raptors and birds and humans)
- Minimum size is around 16hh (5'3ft), maximum size is around 24.3hh (8'1ft)
- Thin, lithe build, usually around weighing around 600lbs-800lbs
- Lizardy beaks with a ridge of blunt squared teeth, followed by a set of buck teeth in the front
- Feathered crest, cheeks, joints, and tails
- Five small spikes on their rumps
- Four large spikes on their tails, all four are alternating size, with two larger ones on top and two smaller ones on the bottom; the largest top spike always faces upward with their spine
- Cross-eyed or wall-eyed; they do not have a correct eye alignment, so their pupils (which can come in any shape or pattern) will either always look backward or forwards; their eyesight is so bad they're practically blind so their eyes are developed into many odd patterns and variations
- Extremely acute sense of smell, hearing, and touch to make up for lack of eyesight
- They can easily feel very small vibrations on the ground through their feet, paws, or crests (will hold their heads flat to the ground to help locate sources of ground vibrations) or in the air through their feathers, Jacks especially are apt to picking up air vibrations and detecting weather changes thanks to their sensitive eyelash feathers
- Meerkat-like paws with a grasping 'thumb', allowing them to loosely hold items like cups and food items and toys (or even their own reins if they're being naughty), though not quite dexterous enough to use most human tools
- Hind limbs similar in shape to a kangaroo rat
- Three toed back feet, similar in muscle pattern to a kangaroo rat's, and similarly built as most theropod dinosaurs, or their inspired species incisivosaurus
- Curled tongues that coil inside of their bottom jaw in a sort of butterfly proboscis shape, when uncoiled a full sized adult Skepluvi's tongue can be almost two feet (24inches) in length; their tongues are also usually very colorfully patterned, sporting similar stripes/spots/splotches as their base coat colors or highlighter colors
- Large salivary glands under their tongues; when excited or spooked, they can spray a thin mist of watery saliva up to six feet (much like a human might do when yawning); their saliva is usually a very diluted clear color that is similar to the color of their skin or tongue
- Males (jacks) have two large feathers with the quills attached to their normal eyelid feathering which are similar in shape and style to a racket bird; females (queens) do not have these, just the normal short eyelid feathers
- Pygmies looks the same as their standard counterparts, with the exception of being slightly fluffier and softer textured (like the down feathers on baby birds) with longer front teeth; male pygmies also do not have any jack feathers; their minimum size is around 3hh (1ft), with the maximum size being around 5.3hh (1'7ft)
- All Skepluvias have their own distinct set of vocal sounds, within the range of noises similar to polecats/ferrets; there is a wide variety of different chirps, hisses, barks, pips, whines, ect each with its own vocabulary meaning (will be a video audio example of each)
- Instinctively, these are very dorky, clumsy, goofy creatures incapable of purposefully causing genuine harm to other living beings
- They form strong social and familial attachments
- Males (jacks) tend to be very parental and affectionate, milder and easier to train, and usually a bit lazier
- Females (queens) tend to be more energetic, curious, easier to spook, less focused, and less interested in caring for their young (rittens)
- Jacks live an average of fifty to eighty years, while queens tend to live eighty to one hundred years; Pygmies tend to live a bit shorter lifespans, where both jacks and queens live an average of thirty to fourty years
- All Skepluvias are completely vegan creatures; they do not like the sight of gore or blood and become very alarmed and uneasy around it; it is even said they can smell a meat-based meal on their owners breath, so handlers are encouraged to adapt to an entirely plant based vegan lifestyle to make training/bonding with their Skeplivias easier - it can be rather difficult to bond to them otherwise!
- Generally, they make great family pets, adore kids and other animals, and are very protective and nurturing toward living things; all personalities are distinct however
- It should be duly noted that they absolutely do not deal with abuse/neglect or any sort - they will happily convert to ingesting human meat again if they or other creatures around them are not being treated properly[/center]

Dietary Requirements

Postby ShadyBro » Thu Jul 25, 2019 8:17 am

Diet: Being an entirely vegan species, Skepluvias cannot ingest any form of meat, dairy, or eggs - doing so makes them quite ill, and can actually be lethal to the delicate digestive system of a newborn ritten. Their main food source if you are able to properly grant your Skepluvias good amounts of space should always consist of cacti and desert plants, so that they can forage for nutritionally rounded meals in a more natural manner. As a basic diet for captive Skepluvias, slightly unusual leafy greens such as palm leaf, starleaves, ivies, ferns, and dune grasses tend to fulfill most of their needs. Of course treats are always a plus as well, just as with any species - nuts, berries, raw grains, seeds, sprouts, or even sugar cane can make a Skepluvi quite happy every once in a while! Regular fruits and veggies can also add a good amount of supplementation to your Skepluvi's daily diet, but it must be done in small quantities and it is important not to overfeed with acidic based foods. Cauliflower, sweet potatoes, spinach, zucchini, artichokes, onions, collards, peas, green beans, papaya, figs, mango, watermelon, honeydew, grapes, blueberries, pears, tangerines, and kiwis are among some of the low-acid fruits and vegetables that Skepluvias can healthily enjoy.

- Vegan Diet ; Incapable Of Digesting Animal-Based Products
- No Meat, Dairy (Milk, Cheese, Yogurt, Ect), Or Eggs; Careful To Check Ingredient Lists (Gelatin Is Meat, Cane Sugar Is Processed With Bone Char, Folic Acid Is Often Made Of Animal Proteins, Ect - Vegan Food Checker)
- Requires Cacti As A Foraging Diet
- Leafy Greens Such As Palm Leaf, Starleaves, Ivies, & Ferns
- Treats Of Nuts, Berries, Raw Grains, Seeds, Sprouts, Or Raw Sugar Cane
- Low-Acid Fruits And Veggies As Supplements

Mates & Breeding

Postby ShadyBro » Thu Jul 25, 2019 8:18 am

For breeding request/submission rules, please go here. To request/submit a breeding, please go here.

- Skepluvias can only be bred by breeding artists, meaning you may not design your own babies.
- While able to and more often to present any sexual or gender orientation, only jack (DMAB) x queen (DFAB) pairings can reproduce. Same sex pairings and altering genders are extremely common in the species, but as they are not naturally able to produce offspring, adopting rittens from breedings or breeding with other non-mated Skepluvi's is quite common practive.
- Your Skepluvi's birth sex (jack or queen) cannot be changed from what the artist posts them as, however they can present any gender or lack thereof that you wish.
- Baby Skepluvias are called 'rittens'; one pairing will usually only produce one ritten, however in rare instances twins or even triplets can happen. Note that twins or triplets do not count separately towards breeding slots; a breeding that results in triplets still only counts as one breeding slot, not three.
- Skepluvias are super strange in their birthing process in that, rather than laying eggs, their womb grows a soft shelled egg (similar to that of a snake's), that pips (hatches) only minutes after being laid. The eggs are silky black in color, often with faded grey stripes or spots depending on the rittens patterning.
- A ritten is fully feathered, furred, colored, and capable of standing almost immediately after hatching, and can run and jump and eat solid in less than an hour from there. Some are quicker than others, but even runts are fully able to function within a day of hatching.
- Rittens grow very fast; they are considered teenagers after only two weeks, and capable of breeding shortly thereafter, though they are not truly adults until about a year of age (queens usually taking closer to two years to become fully mature mentally).
- A group of Skepluvias is called a 'scuffle' - this usually consists of one male (jack) and two to five females (queens) that are his mates. The jack will care for all the offspring diligently and gently, as they have a very strong parental instinct naturally, while the queens tend to prefer to forage for food and protect their territory, only interacting with their young to scold or play chase.
- While jacks will usually only breed to queens that they are mated to within their own scuffle, queens will happily breed outside of their scuffle to other random scuffless/stray jacks. Their mated jacks rarely mind this and are content to care for any offspring born irregardless of blood relation.
- Jacks/DMABs only have ten breeding slots before they become sterile. After ten breedings, they cannot breed anymore.
- Queens have unlimited breeding slots and can continue to breed through their entire lives.
- For users without a jack to use in breedings, your queen can be paired to our mascot, Dart, in breeding requests. There is no breeding fee to us him as a stud (as long as your queen has a completed tack prompt) and he can be used as many times as you wish.

- [NOTE: PYGMIES WILL NOT BE RELEASED UNTIL MUCH LATER ON; PLEASE BE PATIENT]
- Standard sized Skepluvi can breed to pygmies and vise versa, however pygmies cannot be bred for; a pygmy can only be produced randomly from two standard sized Skepluvias, never from a pairing that involves a pygmy.
Ex; Standard DMAB x Standard DFAB = 25% random chance of producing a pygmy | Standard DMAB x Pygmy DFAB or Pygmy DMAB x Pygmy DFAB = 0% chance of producing a pygmy
- Pygmies are completely breedable in any pairing and will pass on their genetics the same way as standards.
- Pygmies cannot be ridden however, and as such are incapable of being tacked or having tack prompts. Therefore their breedings are free of charge even without a completed prompt.

Habitat & Care

Postby ShadyBro » Thu Jul 25, 2019 8:18 am

Habitat: Skepluvias thrive in human-made environments, usually consisting of a farm-style property with a desert theme. They enjoy warm, dry, sunny weather, and much prefer sandy fields rather than lush green pastures. Skepluvi require sand bathes to keep their skin and feathers in good condition, but are otherwise fairly low maintenance, as they groom themselves consistently and eat very few calories compared to their body size. Similar to horses foraging on grass or hay bales through the day, Skepluvia owners are encouraged to lay out large cacti piles to encourage proper foraging activity. They are equally quite active creatures, capable of sprinting hundreds of miles of flat distance per day to find food in their natural desert habitats, so it is prefered they be given very large areas of land for good exercise. Pleasure riding can also fill this need if it is something the Skepluvi is interested and trained in. Being as intellectually social as they are, the last but most important aspect of a Skepluvi's habitat is the inclusion of other Skepluvias as well as consistent interaction with their humans, other farm pets, and native wildlife.

- 100 Acres Per Scruffle
- Sandy Patches & Flat Lands Rather Than Grassy Pastures Or Hills
- High Heat, Low Humidity (Don't Forget Rain Cover! Moisture Can Damage Their Feathers!)
- Fresh Cacti Bales For Foraging
- Other Skepluvi! Never Keep Them Housed Alone :c
- Lots Of Love <3

Training, Riding, & Tacking

Postby ShadyBro » Thu Jul 25, 2019 8:18 am

Skepluvias are wonderful companions for pleasure riding, and though not quite focused enough for competitive tasks, they do still love showing off flashy tricks and saddles for their human companions! These slobbery goofy creatures are a breeze to train and saddle up, but there is still a bit of work involved for you.

Once you have reached your limit of Skepluvia, there are ways to increase that limit.

In order to tack up your Skepluvi, you must complete a simple writing or art prompt. This task is quite easy with many options, so that you are able to exercise your talents or inspiration wherever and however you wish.

Steps:

1 - Own a Skepluvi. This is fairly self explanatory - you must own a non-tacked Skepluvi in order to complete the prompt.

2 - Complete one of these three prompts (Pick whichever one you want to do, or do all three - it is totally up to you!);
. "First Meeting", where you may either write (100 word minimum), or draw (can be any style or level of effort, however it must be colored in to show it is of your Skepluvi) something about the first time you met your Skepluvi..how did the meeting go? Does your Skepluvi love you at first sight? Was it a little more work to gain their trust? You decide - be creative and have fun with it!
. "First Tacking", where you may either write (100 word minimum), or draw (can be any style or level of effort, however it must be colored in to show it is of your Skepluvi) something about the first time you put tack on your Skepluvi..what does the tack look like? How does your Skepluvi like (or dislike) it? Did you have a simple or more difficult time getting the tack onto them? You decide - be creative and have fun with it! You may even use this prompt option to color and add design to the tack so that it may be used as inspiration when the artist adds the official tack to your Skepluvi c;
. "First Ride", where you may either write (100 word minimum), or draw (can be any style or level of effort, however it must be colored in to show it is of your Skepluvi) something about the first time you got on your Skepluvi's back and took them for a ride..Did they enjoy it or hate it? Was it hard getting them to accept a rider or did they take right away? Are they easy to ride and control or are they clumsy and distracted? You decide - be creative and have fun with it!

3 - Post your completed prompt directly on your Skepluvi's adoption page so that the main artist can assure the task is completed.

4 - Fill out this form after the main artist posts 'Task Complete' underneath of the prompt, and post it on your Skepluvi's adoption page. If you are able (COPPA excused) please send a PM to the artist with a link to the Skepluvi that needs tacking. The artist will then create a new image of your Skepluvi with your designed tack! NOTE: Please do not ask for extra items or line edits under any circumstances - the artist may choose to add items if they wish to, and they will contact you themselves if that is the case. Asking for it yourself is an automatic no. We don't want to stress out our artists with these sorts of requests.

About Skepluvi Tack
There are several parts unique to Skepluvias involved in their tack.
First, the saddle - A Skepluvian saddle is arched high in the back with a rocking bar underneath of it so that the rider can easily maneuver the slopped spine and jerky movements of a Skepluvi. This allowed the rider to stay in a more level position irregardless of whether the Skepluvi is hunched in the proper riding position or not. This means that when a Skepluvi stands up, the rider won't slip off the back quite as easily.
The bridle - A Skepluvian bridle is designed with a thick adjustable head strap that sits in between their feathering. Attached to the front is a muzzle that covers their bit. Because a bit often presses on the large unavoidable salivary glands in a Skepluvi's mouth, this muzzle helps keep their jaw in the correct position so that they aren't able to constantly spray everything around them with spit - as excited and happy Skepluvias often do. Attached to the bit is a thin wire rein wrapped in twining, to assure it will not snap or come loose from the regular bobbing and jerking of the Skepluvi's head and neck.
The chest plate - The chest plate is the thick strap that attached to the front of the saddle and wraps around the Skepluvi's chest. This strap is adjustable and pegged with smooth rounded metal studs, which become strained on the Skepluvi's skin if they stand for too long of a period. This not only helps keep the saddle from sliding off their backs, but also encourages the Skepluvi to keep their backs lowered to ensure a more gentle ride.
The blanket and saddle pad - The blanket is a simple design, a cotton crochet topper lined underneath with faux wool and a breathable mesh layer to ensure comfort and to keep the Skepluvi's skin and feathering from becoming too slick. The saddle pad is the padding layering over the rider's seat, equally designed for comfort to offer some cushioning from sloppy gaits or bucking behaviors.
The tail peg - The tail peg is a hidden piece of tack that sits underneath the back of the saddle. It is a small wire strap that wraps around the first rump spike, and it is synched up tight to the saddle. This tightness on their spike helps keep the Skepluvi's spine and therefore their tail perfectly aligned to the saddle, which disallows the tail from swinging side to side or upwards toward the rider. This is to protect the rider from their obviously quite dangerous tail weaponry, and to ensure the Skepluvi will not use their tail to knock riders off or accidentally injure other Skepluvi or riders around them.

Community Scuffle List

Postby ShadyBro » Thu Jul 25, 2019 8:18 am

A group of Skepluvias is called a Scuffle, just as a group of dogs would be a pack or a group of horses would be a herd. This is our community scuffle list - basically it is where we will link to everyone's character pages for their Skepluvias, so that you can show off each of your Skepluvi and their information/art/open breeding slots/character development/ect! Those with a Scuffle page listed here will be allowed to own extra Skepluvi past the normal ownership level, given extra opportunities as the species develops, and will have a higher chance of winning certain contests and adopts, so we definitely recommend getting one setup! To have your Scuffle listed here, just PM me the form below. Be sure to notify me if you username changes or if the link to your Scuffle page changes.
