What are Underlings?
Underlings are creatures that resemble an English Bull Terrier in build. They have forked, prehensile tongues, as well as longer, sharper teeth than the average dog. They have pointy, curved claws, which are used for traction. The whites of their eyes are black. Underlings always wear a mask, for reasons unknown. The only time they take it off is when they are sleeping. Underlings, as their name would suggest, live under the Earth's crust. They live on the shores of seas of magma, as Underlings need to live in very high temperatures in order to survive. The most interesting and noticeable thing about Underlings are the swords growing out of their backs. Each Underling is connected to one specific Human. When an Underling's Human is betrayed, a new sword or dagger grows out of the Underling's back. The larger the betrayal, the larger the blade grows. Every sword has the betrayer's initials engraved on the blade, and every sword is unique. The only way an Underling can communicate with their Human is through dreams; an Underling shares dreams with their Human. They are very attuned to Human emotions and thoughts; and will often be able to feel their Human's emotions and thoughts during waking hours. Often, Underlings collect and/or make charms which connect to their Human's interests in order to feel a closer bond with them. Underlings have the same lifespan of Humans, but they may outlive their particular Human. Young Underlings usually find out who their Human correspondent is when they are around four years old.

Adult Underlings are about ten hands high at the shoulder, but can be larger or smaller.
Teens are around seven hands high at the shoulder, but can be larger or smaller.
Puppies are approximately four hands high at the shoulder, but can be larger or smaller.
