What is a Nermayn Stilt?
They are a wolf-like species, their bodies long and slender. Their legs, as well, are incredibly long and carry them at incredible speed with a long, powerful stride. Though with longer back legs, their rumps remain higher than their shoulder. These are not a small breed, either. The Stilts can reach heights of up 12 feet, though average from 8-10. Their ears are long and pointed, acting like a radar as they swivel a full 180º. Their skulls are elongated, equipped with powerful jaws and double canines. Their mouth always hangs open, a foot long tongue protruding down from it as a misty fog continuously pours from it. Their eyes are a solid color, lacking pupils and whites. Nermayn Stilts have long tails, and thick fur with even thicker patches growing along the neck, chest, jaw, elbows, and heels.
Nermayn Stilts come in many colors and patterns. While generally coming in base coat or white, black, grays, and browns, they have also been seen with any colors found in the rainbow, though never bright, fluorescent colors. Their markings seem to have no consistency, ranging from patches, spots, and stripes all the way to spirals and zig zags. Eye colors also range from a full spectrum of colors, including solid white, and solid black.
Behavior and Packs:
Nermayn Stilts are wolf-like creatures, and in such they enjoy the company of packs. They are highly intelligent and communicate through a very complex series of sounds, much like humans speak. By adulthood, the young have learned to 'speak' fully with one another. They are social creatures, and prefer to 'talk it over' before coming to blows. Packs can consist of 4-20 Stilts on average. They are led by two Alphas, generally a male and female pair.
They are carnivorous and do hunt, though they also have discovered fish. Some Nermayn Slits have learned how to catch these fish, though mostly aren't eager to share their secrets with others.
Due to their size, Stilts give birth to a single cub. On rare occasions, a twin may be born. The cubs are born with a thin layer of fur, and their eyes and ears sealed. For an entire month, they remain in this helpless stage. For a week after, their senses of fully developed. Upon two months of age, they are able to walk, and their misty breath has now formed. A mother will care for her young for three years until they reach adulthood, at which the young Stilt may leave the pack, or join properly.
