Verdes custos, commonly known as "Guardian Foxes" or just "Custos",
meaning "Guardian" in Latin, went extinct in 1843. However, in the year 2070,
scientists discovered evidence of them and what their roles were in society.
Much effort was put forward to reestablish the species, and eventually they
were able to recover DNA from a Guardian Fox and rebuild the species.
Now they are available for adoption! Will you be able to take one home?

Guardian Foxes are about the size of a full grown German Shepherd dog.
They have ears similar to those of a Fennec Fox, a species which
they are closely related to. They are given feathers, which are attached
to their tails, when they are born. Full grown Guardians typically have a
feather behind one or both of their ears.They are also born with a mist
surrounding their eyes, paws, and tails. This mist is used to capture a human's
dreams or nightmares.

Guardian Foxes bond with one human and one human only.
They will follow that human around for their entire life and sleep near them.
At night, they will change a human's dreams to something that the human enjoys.
They protect their humans from nightmares and will occasionally project visions
of the future into a human's dream.

Guardians live by themselves or with their mate. They are monogamous and mate for
life. Pups are born by themselves or in pairs.
The color of their mist often reflects the color of their eyes. Very rarely, a Guardian will
have black mist. A black misted Guardian will give their human nightmares instead of pleasant dreams,
and are often abandoned by the owner.

Their soft coats can be any color or pattern. Pastel colors are most common,
they are often dual toned or even chimeric. Their coloring and pattern may
or may not be passed down to their pups.

Guardians eat nuts and berries and are nocturnal. They like to play
with shiny objects and to snuggle.

~*~ Respect everyone! No bribery, whining, stealing or anything of the like.
~*~ PM the artist of the Guardian AND the archivist when you are a) putting a Guardian up for readoption or b) gifting it to someone.
~*~ Items may only be added to a Guardian if you have visited the Item Store and have purchased the item{s}. Your artist will then add them to your Guardian for you. These items include hair, jewelry, pattern edits and various other items.
~*~ Do not ask to join the staff unless applications are open.
~*~ You may own up to six Guardians. There is no cool down period. Staff may own eight.
~*~ Breaking of these rules will result in a PM warning. If you continue to break the rule(s), your Guardians will be put up for readoption and you will be banned from the adoptable.
~*~ Because Guardians are monogamous, once they are mated they cannot change mates. Guardians can breed four times with their assigned mate, but can never breed with a different mate.

Using a copyrighted character designs and other copyrighted material that does not belong to you to order a custom or adopt a Guardian is prohibited. As such, doing so will result in a warning, a temporary ban from GFA for five days, a removal of one slot and one warning. Continuing to steal copyrighted material will result in a ban.

Using popular fandom based designs and material to order a custom or adopt a Guardian is permitted, so long as you credit the owner of the character (i.e. : Basing a custom or adoptable Guardian off the character Sherlock from the popular television show. You would need to credit the network that airs the show, BBC America.




new ~*~ Any artists who are inactive in creating/judging adopts for three weeks or more without prior notification will be removed without warning. Sorry, but there is lots of interest in artist positions and I can't have filled slots not being used.

~*~ Do not create a black misted Guardian without my permission. Try to stick to pastel colors as much as possible, but for the most part you may do whatever you'd like.
