about the species

Postby bonk » Mon Oct 28, 2013 2:54 pm

Grave Diggers live in caves and burrows, each inhabiting their own small dens. They live in communities, where their dens are connected. In each den lives a small family, generally including an elder or two, a couple adults and occasionally children. Grave Diggers love to collect gems, ores, jewelry, bones, and other trinkets for their treasure hoards. The social rankings of each community is purely based on wealth; the larger hoard a family has, the higher rank they get.

Alpha Grave Diggers wear skulls of dead deer, horses, etc. on their heads to display their power. There are some alchemist grave diggers, but they are a rare occurrence. They wear giant bird skulls on their heads, much like plague doctors, to protect themselves from dangerous fumes when making potions and poultices.
Warrior Grave Diggers protect their families and fight in wars against other clans. They sport war paint made from crushed berries, blood, and other natural resources. Each family has a different color and style of war paint, and it is passed down from generation to generation. Each small family is associated with a certain color and style.

Treasure hoards are passed down from generation to generation, and the size grows over time as families collect more. There are bands of thieves that steal treasure from families, adding it to their own massive collection. Thieves generally consist of about ten Grave Diggers.

Grave Diggers are incapable of operating anything remotely electronic, so if they were to come across, say, a video game, they would never be able to even turn it on let alone play it. They are complex in their culture but their abilities are hindered; they cannot use modern devices. Their main interests revolve around shiny objects and geodes.
