A Laoreet (pronounced 'La-OW-reet') is a small active animal that, though looks almost reptilian in appearance, is actually a rodent-like mammal that's roughly the size of a guinea pig. They're characterised by their dumpy bodies, tufted cheeks, peach-fuzz fur and big bright eyes.

They were originally created through genetic engineering as a means of creating a pet suitable for all domestic environments and people. As a result, Laoreets can come in just about any combination of natural colours and markings as well as ones found within other species with no two individuals looking exactly identical. Unnatural colours and markings, though less common, are very much possible. Their iconic eyes can also come in any number of colours, however paler colours and Heterochromia are very rare.
Sadly, because Laoreet are lab-born creations they can not survive independently without human intervention, however they do live longer than most cats and dogs, with an average lifespan of 20 - 30 years, rendering them to be great little pets.

Laoreet are also very greedy and many love to eat; if given the opportunity an individual can consume more than it's own body weight in food a single sitting. As a result, some Laoreet can become overweight and very ill if allowed to overindulge.
They are omnivorous, possessing both flat molars for crushing plant matter and canines for tearing and gripping meat and don't seem to have a preference for either although they cannot be kept on meat-exclusive diets, and vice versa. As well as plants and meat, Laoreet are also very fond of honey and milk.

Because of their friendly and sociable nature, Laoreet prefer companionship either with a human owner or with another Laoreet. Other animals do not make suitable companions because of their size and tendency to pick up and teach undesirable habits. They may also view smaller animals as prey items.

Rules
  • Do not steal or claim the species as your own and do not use any that do not belong to you.
  • If you take off-site please credit myself (KWest) and possibly link back.
  • There is no limit to how many Laoreet you can own, however you may only successfully adopt one once a week.
  • Do not try to resell your Laoreet(s) for profit. If you no longer want yours, contact the artist of that Laoreet and they'll put them up for re-adoption.
  • You may not draw this species unless you are commissioned to by a Laoreet owner, if you are an owner, if you're creating try-out art or if you're creating gift art/lines for people to use.
  • Do not bribe artists or complain if you didn't happen to win the Laoreet you wanted. There will always be more to adopt.
  • Please do not ask for customs - at the moment they are not available.
  • A contest will be held to find Artists - please do not ask to be one. Guest Artist, Archivist and Mod applications will become available later.
  • Once you've become a new owner, you may make small adjustments to your Laoreet - adding accessories and such are allowed. Line edits and design changes are not.
  • Laoreets are free to adopt, however breedings will cost.

Laoreet Adopts -

Breeding will soon become an available option for those who own at least one male and one female Laoreet. Couples with separate owners may or may not get to breed their Laoreets together.

Laoreet Adopts

Postby The Lost Gremlin » Mon Apr 22, 2013 10:51 am

Mutations
Because of their genetically diverse DNA, Laoreet are capable of being born with odd mutations. These mutations rarely cause harm to the animal and in many cases they also give them a more unique 'feel'. It's possible to pass mutations down to offspring, thus creating Laoreet with several mutations at once.

Although rare, it is possible for a Laoreet to have multiple mutations. It is unlikely to find a premade Laoreet with multiple mutations, with breeding being the easiest method to obtain such a Laoreet.

Current Possible Mutations:
'Stubby' horns - Uncommon
Overbite Fang - Uncommon
Third Claw - Very Uncommon
Back Quils - Rare

Thanks guys ^^
I didn't think they'd get much attention as a potential species but I guess it's worth a shot, right?

The first Laoreet is now up for adoption. More will be out later on ^^

The brown/speckled one? At the moment, no. But at some point later on I might put him/her up for possible adoption once an official mascot is made in his/her place ~ ^^
