What is a Stormbeta?
A Stormbeta or Stormie is a rare equine species. The live just about anywhere where it rains alot. You see, they absorb water through their skin, therefor they do not need to drink. They do graze and eat like regular horses but get nearly all of their energy from rain and thunderstorms. The energy of the storm is absorbed by them as well as any water. They are normally found in the mountains or in large valleys and places with tree cover. Stormbeta's are very shy and elusive and only allow their own kind to see them.
A brief physical description
The highest height a Stormie will get is about 16hh, and the shortest is about 12hh. Females and males are generally alike, but there are a few differences. A mare's mane is longer than a males, but they're tails are normally the same length which is longer than an average horses tail. A stallions mane is close to the length of a regular horses, but the mane goes half way down the back, past the withers. Both mares and stallions have three toed feet, similar to a deer's. A regular hoof, with two toes. They also half sharp hoof growths just above the back of the hoof. Like a dogs dew claw, I guess you could call it a 'dew hoof'. They use these for fighting. If cut by this the bacteria from it will slowly eat away at the flesh like venom. Both genders also have four tails, one like a normal horse's and three prehensile lion like tails. Prehensile means that Stormbeta's can use their tails to pick up things and grab onto things. The last feature of this species is feathering. Either gender can have feathering, which is either only on the fronts legs or backlegs or both. Whether mare or stallion uncommonly they may have a set of odd looking antlers.
Coat colors
Alright, coat colors and patterns. Stormbeta's can come in any equine colors or patterns, but for their species, overo is rare for a pattern. Any brindle is also rare for them, as well as solid colors. Their markings are normally natural but they can have some unnatural markings but nothing too ridiculous. Their colors can be unnatural also, but they are never bright, and are never solid. They may have tints of blue, yellow, orange, green, sometimes also red but thats about it.
Behavior
Not much is known about their behavior. Stormie's are very skitish, and stick close to their herds which usually consist of thirty members or less. Stallion's are more dominant, and mares tend to be more reserved. Stormbeta's don't often mate for life. Mare's actually almost always have twins, and will rarely have a single foal.
