Lately I've been noticing that I've been spending way too much time indoors on the computer. I live in the middle of a beautiful forest, with so many amazing things to do inside, yet the only thing I'm thinking about is CS. So. I came up with an idea that will both get me (and whoever artists are willing to do this kind of work) outdoors, but involved with CS. Yay!
Oh yeah; also, I need a biiiiiig thanks to Blitzy for doing the lines for this. I really dun deserve this... x3 I promise I shall protect them from thieving thieves. 8)
Welcome to Sidetracked, a whole different kind of design studio!
You wouldn't really expect a design studio of all things to get you outside. However, this one is going to be different. I've been going on a few little nature hikes recently, and have been taking a few random pictures of stuff along the way. These photos were what inspired the main theme of this shop.
All of the designs here are inspired and based off of things that I, or the artist, find in real life, usually in nature. I'll provide a photo of the inspiration (don't expect quality photos; they'll really just be for reference). The 'Sprite' (what I'll be calling the puppy for adoption) will have a simple contest to adopt it, changing depending on what I feel like setting up as a contest.
Rules/Guidelines for Designs (Mostly for me)
- The pictures should usually be taken out of the house, unless it's raining or you're feeling lazy. (However, you can't always feel lazy. x3) I don't want to see any designs based off of your computer mouse. Really.
- Don't take a picture of a traditional drawing you did for your design. Seriously. Pictures of paintings, sculptures and other media not made intentionally for this purpose are OK.
- You can use animal refs, as long as it doesn't directly copy the animal's markings. You may NEVER use a human as a ref, or any signs that reveal your location or other personal information.
- The Sprite should be heavily inspired by the picture, but not a complete copy of the object. E.g. if you use a pinecone for your inspiration, you shouldn't make a Sprite with a body of a pinecone. However, you shouldn't so loosely create the design that you can't recognize it, either. It should have similar colors, patterns, etc.
- Give an explanation of what the inspiration for your Sprite was. You can also give the basics on the Sprite, but that's optional.
- You can't make yourself customs- you can do that on your own; in different lines.
- Don't use an inspiration too similar to a previous one. I want these to be unique.
- Don't use Google Images and say that you took the picture! Trust me, I can tell the difference.
Rules/Guidelines for Adopters (the one you should read)
- Don't adopt and completely leave your Sprite to collect dust. The designs take effort. o3o
- Please follow the designer's adoption form, and don't complain if you don't win your Sprite. There will be others later to adopt, but if you make too much of a fuss, you may be banned from adopting one ever.
- Don't beg for customs if slots are closed. Begging, being rude, or otherwise not showing respect to the artists and the studio in general will get you banned.
- Have fun, I guess. c:
- RESPECT BLITZ'S LINES. You may use it on threads, as long as you credit the studio and Blitz for the lines. You can't use it off of CS, except on personal character sites (no, your dA gallery doesn't count as a personal character site). You may NEVER claim it as your own, and you must credit Blitz wherever you go. If I see the watermark or signature edited out or hidden, you will be reported to the CS mods as well as permanently banned from Sidetracked. No second chances.
-I'd like it if you didn't steal this idea. While I can't really stop you, I'd prefer if you didn't set up the exact same thing.
To adopt
Just go to the page of the Sprite you want to adopt, and fill out the requirements. If you fill them out the best, as chosen by the designer, you'll win the Sprite. Please be considerate with these- a lot of the designs that I make, at least, take a lot of work (because I have to both find the inspiration and convert it into a design.) Don't adopt if you're going to let it sit there and collect dust.
Customs- Closed
Yep, I'll do customs. You'll have to provide the inspiration photo, and I'll make the Sprite. Just use this form.
I can still tell if you use Google/Bing/Whatever images. Really. Don't try it- I'll know.

Yeah, I just came up with this idea on a whim a few days ago and wanted to try it out. So far, I went on one photo shoot this morning, and it was great! Wow, I never actually knew how much cool stuff was in my 'backyard'.
To give a little preview on my designs, I live in a natural high desert and forested area. Most of my starter designs will be based on the flora that surrounds my house and is in my backyard. There's also a river below our house, so I might have a few designs themed on that as well. This is gonna be fun. o3o
Meh... I know I've neglected adoption centers in the past, but this is something that I really think I can put my heart into. I actually spent some quality family time with my mom this morning out on my photo hunt. A miracle, right? /has no life
Right now EVERYTHING IS CLOOOOOOSED. Seeing as it's late-ish at night and I still haven't taken a shower or anything. Artist opportunities are semi-available, although don't apply just because you stalk me or Blitz, or I'm your friend. This is actually sort of work. It involves getting out of the house. Also, I'd like the artists to be relatively experienced with designing (only a little lower than my level, at the least). Also, I'd like you to tell me the kind of, erm, I'll call it 'biome' you live in (forest, desert, big city, etc.) so I can get an idea of what kind of stuff you're designs will be based on. (Don't worry, you don't have to actually tell me where you live; just what the area's like.) PM me if you're interested.
-Le WIP. Comments and critique on the idea are appreciated. I'll probably design something in the morning.-
