Blackout on Wednesday against SOPA!

Postby originals » Wed Jan 18, 2012 6:58 pm

If this is passed, any none-government sites or sites that do not cite officially their sources will be closed down. Mentioning things like MLP, Amazon, EBay, etc, will be illegal. Most sites will be closed down, so tomorrow, take a stand! Change your signature to 'Blacking out so SOPA back out' and stay off the Internet for the day! Or heck, not even that big. Change your signature to 'The Anti-SOPA movement of 2012!' Just do something to make a stand!

Mods-if this is against the rules or you diagree, please lock/edit/delete as seen fit ;)

Presuming we are functioning off AmericanEST, let's say this starts in roughly an hour from this edit.

Edit-LOOK AT GOOGLE! TAKING A STAND! ily google <3

So far I have seen alot of sites blacking out....its a shame more popular sites like facebook, twitter, tumbler and ect isn't doing it because...well if it got passed they would be ones of the first to go since a lot of their sites are based on content others made.

Most world-wide sites aren't going; Yahoo! News has a list of the 18 sites blacking out, Wikipedia being th most common one. If a site does suddenly black out- I'd guess its maintenance. The bill won't be passed until the 24th or sonething.

"Wikipedia, user-submitted news site Reddit, the blog Boing Boing and the Cheezburger network of comedy sites all plan to participate in the blackout. The protest is their response to the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) bill, a piece of proposed legislation that is working its way through Congress."

"As BoingBoing wrote: "Making one link would require checking millions (even tens of millions) of pages, just to be sure that we weren't in some way impinging on the ability of five Hollywood studios, four multinational record labels, and six global publishers to maximize their profits.""

"White House jumps in: The House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform was supposed to hold a hearing with industry experts on Wednesday, which is why sites targeted that day for a blackout.'"
California opposes SOPA

"As originally written, SOPA would have required Internet access providers and other companies to block access to targeted sites in ways that were rife with potential unintended consequences. The White House said its analysis of the original legislation's technical provisions "suggests that they pose a real risk to cybersecurity."

I'm really scared about this. I'm blacking out tomorrow, too.
This is what things will probably look like.
